Flight 1 (7 notes)

White - Off-dry
2001 Hexamer Meddersheimer Rheingrafenberg Riesling Hochgewächs Germany, Nahe
Absolutely lovely. Starting to deepen in color, like pale copper. Rich petrol, pear aromas. Bright tart fruit on palate with a fair amount of sweetness. Amazing depth of flavors for what I must assume is a QBa. Plenty of life left.

2010 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Light garnet colored. Very tight and lean at first glance. An hour later this opened up to expansive sappy bright strawberry red fruits with an earthy finish. My WOTN, and the first bottle finished.

Definitely hold off... Many years.
Red
2006 Domaine de Montille Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
This had been opened up 2 days earlier, and kept cold. Too cold at first taste, but opened up, still quite fresh with rather dense tannins still. Tight strawberry and cola flavors. Hold.
Red
2003 Château Pontet-Canet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Very confusing wine.
Still deep purple. Still a lot of ripe primary fruit, but then hollows out and finish dries out a bit.
This was so delicious in early tastings; is it aging awkwardly/prematurely, or just in a dumb phase? I'd just hold off other bottles for now.

2003 Kapcsándy Family Winery Cabernet Sauvignon State Lane Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Yountville
Still fairly dark mulberry purple.
Rich plummy flavors with a hint of cocoa, but to me much more old world styled. Lovely. Fine now, but no rush
Red
2000 Château Sociando-Mallet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Drinking perfectly right now and a strong candidate for WOTN until the Lavaux opened up.
Rich dark fruits, not much oak, and just beautiful balance. Gorgeous now, but this should hold for a long time... But why would you want to wait
Red
2005 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Tasted blind, I wouldn't have picked Pauillac, perhaps a more modern style, but otherwise a rather young big Bordeaux. A bit more restrained than a tasting 3 years ago

All excellent wines with the 2000 Sociando making an especially strong showing tonight amongst some decent company.

This young Lavaux is gorgeous and absolutely worth a look.

Served blind the Kacsandy was presumed old world.
