Slightly reductive, with sharp acid and not a lot of fruit but very nice chalky mineral character. This could use more fruit and it's a big step down from PYCM's wonderful St Aubin 1ers, but not bad for a village wine. Not especially good QPR now that PYCM has shot up in price.

What happened here? This is an oaky, buttery mess. Rich yellow fruit, lots of butter and caramel with bitterness from oak tannin. Has a lot of acid, which gives it an odd juxtaposition between the creamy texture and the tartness. I don't always hate creamy textured chardonnays, but for me to pull that off you need a lot of mineral structure to cut it, and this is very much lacks the required fruit concentration and mineral structure. I actively disliked this and I don't understand whom this wine is supposed to be for. It's not sweet enough to be cougar juice but far too flabby to be AFWE.

2012 J. Rochioli Chardonnay Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Dense tropical fruit, big and round and soft, some noticeable oaky coconut, not sweet but alcoholic. Bleh. Not for me. Dumped.
White
2013 Olivier Leflaive Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
87 points
Green apple, whiff of hazelnut, Mersault-y, light and airy and refreshing. Not much in the way of depth or complexity, but pleasant with a nice kiss of chalk on the finish.

2012 Ceritas Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

A little closed on the nose at first, shows nice lemon and peach fruit, medium bodied wtih good acid and very nice intense chalkiness, with just a hint of oak on the finish. This has a very nice fruit/acid/mineral balance and it's complete through the midpalate, very nice wine. I especially like the chalkiness. Just slightly behind the Rhys Alpine tonight, lacking its depth of midpalate material.

2013 Marc Colin et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru

Has the apple/pear/peach fruit and floral character of this vineyard, which is one of my favorites in Burgundy. Airy and mineral, but lacks depth and concentration and not nearly at the level of his son's rendition.

2010 Rhys Chardonnay Horseshoe Vineyard USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

Slight spritz at first. Concentrated ripe lemon and underripe pineapple, shows a little oak, creamy but not buttery and ripe but not sweet, gets more mineral and powerful with time in the glass. Just a hair riper than I would prefer, but with good acidity/minerality. Good but overshadowed by the 12 Alpine, which was less ripe but more powerful.

Also a little spritz at first that blows off. Less ripe than the 10 Horseshoe, with lemon and apple/pear. It gets more tart and mineral as it breathes up, and the concentration and density here is very impressive without being at all flabby, there's just more material here than in any of the other wines, and that material has been well put together. This is excellent. My WOTN. I think I slightly preferred the 12 Horseshoe I had last month, but it's close, both are excellent.

2012 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

A shame, something went wrong here. This is stinky. Terminal reduction maybe? If I were served this in a restaurant I'd send it back.

2012 Sandhi Wines Chardonnay Rita's Crown USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills

Sweet green apple, ripe pear, good acid with a hint of minerals. This is nice and crisp with good tension and length, but I'd prefer just a bit more minerally complexity. Still very good.

2011 Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley

Tropical fruit, slightly sweet, varnishy and waxy, short. Blech.

2013 Anthill Farms Chardonnay Peugh Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Clean green apple and lime fruit with lots of acid. This has a noticeable underripe greenness that to me is almost like bugspray. Not much depth, simple and boring. Meh.
