Flight 1 - Day One Afternoon (13 notes)

White
2011 Benjamin Leroux Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
89 points
Small glass, brief note. Lemon, lemon peel, some orchard on nose and palate. Medium weight, good length.
White
2000 Morey-Blanc Meursault 1er Cru Bouchères France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
flawed
Corked.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Réserve Oubliée France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
92 points
Apple and lemon with a hint of toasted almond. Very long, with a nice lean edge. 2008 base.
White
2002 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
93 points
Still slightly reductive. Green apple with lots of power and concentration, but still backward. Mineral textures dominate the finish in a classi, elegant way I really enjoy. More floral notes emerged when open 2+ hours, making this even better.
Red
2010 Domaine Ponsot Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Cuvée des Alouettes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
88 points
Red fruit, spice and earth aromas that I like, followed by the same flavors but less appealing with firm tannins that will need a few more years to move past its drying finish.
White - Sparkling
1996 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses France, Champagne
93 points
Maturing Apple with nutty overtones. Somewhat powerful start, elegantly finessed finish. I liked this more when younger, but still drinking beautifully.
Red
2013 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Red fruit, floral and spice. Good minerally finish. Moderate depth, concentration and length, this will drink well young.
Red
2001 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
91 points
Small glass, brief note. Maturing red fruit with very good spice. Moderate depth, but very good balance. Very good now.

Red
1998 Domaine Michel Gros Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
86 points
Mature red fruit with good spice that I like, but a little more merde than I'd prefer.
White
2013 Remoissenet Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
90 points
Lots of aplle with floral notes that are good overall, but the minerality and General textures are the highlight here. Good now.

White
1996 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Le Clos Blanc Domaine Gagey France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Small glass, brief note. Ripe and mature with very good concentration vs expectations. Some earth coming through. Drinking nicely now, but time to drink up.
Red
2001 Claude Dugat Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
90 points
Lots of sweet black fruit, still nicely fresh. Plenty of spice, including a little more pronounced new oak than I'd prefer. Moderate weight and density.
Red
2001 Christophe Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
93 points
Black fruit with good concentration and early signs of maturing. Great spice on both nose and palate, with good power and intensity. Long and very well textured. Still has upside from here.

Flight 2 - Day Two (30 notes)

White - Sparkling
2004 Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Millésimé France, Champagne
89 points
Fresh lemon with a bit of berry notes. Good energy to start, moderate length and intensity on the finish.
White
1995 Coche-Dury Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
flawed
Slightly oxidized.
White
2005 Camille Giroud Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
92 points
From magnum. Ripe stone fruit on nose and palate that starts as forward with unctuous textures, then finishes with minerality and acidity that almost come by surprise. Very good overall.
White
2007 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
86 points
Small glass, brief note. Nice enough apple flavors and aromas, but simple and getting tired.
White - Sparkling
2002 Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Comtesse Marie de France France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
87 points
Small glass, brief note. Apple, toasted almond, some sweet berry hints. Seemed a little fat to start, better energy and overall texture on finish.
Red
2011 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Goulots Vieille Vigne France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
87 points
Bright red fruit aromas, slightly less robust on palate. Faint green notes on finish. Not as exciting as when tasted from barrel in 2014.
Red
1988 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
89 points
Mature red cherry with plenty of earth and a lean finish. Interesting, this was served to me in small wine glass. Those served in large Burg stems/bowls didn't enjoy the wine as much. And I didn't enjoy it as much when smelled from a Burg stem either, finding all the remaining fruit was lost.
Red
2009 Domaine Fourrier Chambolle-Musigny Vieille Vigne France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
90 points
Sweet red fruit, ripe and lush with very good density for its level. Finishes with Chambolle textures and minerality I really enjoyed.
White
2009 Dönnhoff Dellchen Riesling Großes Gewächs Germany, Nahe
90 points
Small glass, brief note. Starts with ripe apple, floral notes and lemon peel, with an aromatic profile that implies more sweetness than what shows up on the palate. Very good+ balance and moderate length. Very pleasurable and bright, an interesting "palate cleanser" in a day full of Burgundy.
Red
1985 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
90 points
Small glass, brief note. Lots of earth and reduced mushroom with fully mature red fruit. Not the most nuanced Chave vintage of that decade, but elegant with good length.
Red
2009 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
89 points
Small glass, brief note. Ripe black fruit with leather and roast meat hints. Fun now, but it's still all youthful exuberance. Upside from here as it evolves.
Red
2002 Monthélie-Douhairet-Porcheret Volnay 1er Cru Champans France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
87 points
Small glass, brief note. Mature red fruit aromas with lots of barnyard. Much more appealing flavors, showing red cherry and spice hints, that are indeed tasty but slightly simple for its level.
Red
2002 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
91 points
Very similar to the Jadot 2002 CSJ we opened late yesterday. Ripe black fruit with meaty notes and Boeuf Bourgignon spice throughout. A little more spice vs the Jadot, while slightly less concentration and animale.
Red
1996 André Ziltener Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Small glass, brief note. Black and red berries, just a little bretty and not to my liking for something at this age.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. The Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Meunier Brut Nature 50th Anniversary USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
88 points
Small glass, brief note. Disgorged January 2015. Strawberry with some orange peel on the finish, where there is a nice burst of energy. Exceeded my expectations.
Red
1996 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
88 points
Small glass, brief note. Fully mature red fruit with good background spice. Moderate weight, but still some unresolved tannins and acid, so imperfect balance for right now.
White
2013 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
91 points
Small glass, brief note. Similar to when tasted at the domaine a few weeks ago. Ripe fruit throughout with faint botrytis hints that give a very non-classic character, but this finishes with polish and energy that brings us back to Chablis.
White
2013 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
92 points
Small glass, brief note. Green apple and orange peel show moderate ripeness, but far more classic precision and concentration. Very good textures and length. A rare vintage where I prefer this Butteaux over the MdT tasted alongside.

2002 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
93 points
Unmistakably Vosne in a great way, and even very typically Meo. Sweet black and red furtive with great baking spice. Everything is in harmony. Rockstar nose, very good+ palate that is very polished but slightly less nuanced.
Red
1996 Domaine Robert Jayer-Gilles Echezeaux du Dessus France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
83 points
Small glass, brief note. Lots of earth and fully mature fruit, but lots more unresolved structure. Plus a slightly hollow middle.

Red
1976 Domaine Clair-Daü Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
87 points
Cork showed some signs of leakage, which I think adversely affected what has previously been a simply great wine. Today there was just almost no remaining fruit to complement the earth and mushroom notes. Interesting and enjoyable, but frankly just hints of enjoyment.
Red
1997 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
92 points
Small glass, brief note. Very ripe and very mature, but it clearly stays on the right side of avoiding being overripe or too tired. Engaging Vosne spice with excellent concentration. One of today's most positive surprises for the better. Probably near the tail-end of its peak drinking window.
Red
1982 Mongeard-Mugneret Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
87 points
Small glass, brief note. Shockingly fresh for its age from a problematic vintage. Good balance of mature black and red fruit, earth, leather. Good density, which I'd consider great in context of age and vintage. Some awkward angles on finish, but a very leasing surprise overall.
Red
2002 Joseph Drouhin Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
flawed
I don't know if there was a problem with the bottle or the wine itself, but this was dirty and unpleasant.
White
1996 Domaine Rémi Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Small glass, brief note. Glad to see it still fresh enough to drink. Lots of apple with good spice and very good concentration. There was a bitter edge, however, on the finish I just couldn't get past. Others enjoyed this more.
Red
1978 Prince Florent de Merode Corton-Bressandes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
93 points
Small glass, brief note. Served to me blind, I thought it 1969 Grand Cru in great condition. Lots of red and black cherry with spice and forget floor, all impeccably clean. Wonderful concentration and balance. Thanks, Joel, for bringing and sharing.
White
2006 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
92 points
Ripe, dense and concentrated, exactly like when tasted last week in Burgundy. Here is the rare 2006 white Burg that has improved over the past few years, retaining its freshness and picking up nuance.

1996 Emmanuel Rouget Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Massively reduced and completely unapproachable for now. Cellar for another decade+? Decant for several hours?
Red
2007 Domaine Dujac Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
92 points
Such a pretty wine so easy to enjoy right now. Spice and floral charm with bright red fruit. Ok not particularly "Gevrey," but very charming with an elegant weightlessness and balance.
Red
1986 Georges Noellat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Well past its "drink by" date.
