Pear and apple. Clean palate with decent length.

Apple, cherry and some toast. Good brightness on the palate through the acidity. Little depth but nice for what it is.

Yeast and toast. Very clean on the palate, good length. It is a little simple but it does taste good.

From a single block of vines. Earth, strawberry and green apple. Nice acidity, I like the balance, though a little more fruit depth here would really lift things.

Earth, biscuit and strawberry. Palate has started to round out, with the fruit showing quite a sweet side. Decent but it doesn't quite have the spark to bring it to the next level.

Spice, lime and ginger. Good acid brightness and the fruit depth is a step up on some of the previous wines. Quite delicious to drink while still showing plenty of interest.

Toast, apple, plum and redcurrant. Restrained style on the palate, there is a good undercurrent of acidity and good length. Should improve with some further age.

Earth, cherry and strawberry. Good clarity and drive, flows nicely and the fruit has good depth and purity. Considering that I'm not normally wowed by Rose Champagne, this was impressive.

Florals, toast, lemon and pear aromas. Finely detailed, with great balance through the fruit purity and great acid line. Really good depth and persistence.

Musk and lemon aromas. On the palate there is a touch of roundness to the fruit and it is pretty mildly mannered overall. I like it but it didn't thrill.

Lime, kerosene and floral notes. Developing nicely, there is a toasty element to it and good length. I think this is a good checkpoint for this wine, though I think another 5 years wouldn't hurt it badly.

Herb and musky floral notes are the focus of the nose. The palate is quite well balanced, with the sweetness definitely present but an acid core that sweeps through nicely. Carries well too. Good stuff!

AP #02. Herb, lemon and slate with some nice spice complexity. Palate shows off the clarity and purity that I associate closely with this producer. Good length and will happily develop well with further time.

AP #03. Mineral, slate, some petrol and peach. Rounded on the palate, though the fruit remains very bright and alive. Powerful acidity pulls the wine through into a long finish. Probably about to need some time to sleep.

AP #04. Herbs, chalk, lemon and pineapple. Superb balance, with the sweetness really well integrated into the other components. Great length and drive.

Nice perfume and apple nose. Good clean fruit with good length and a bit of an acid bite toward the finish. Youthful but will improve.

Mineral, pear and floral notes. A bit more in balance than the Watervale at this tasting, there is more substance to the fruit which helps to give the acidity a purpose, even when this young. Very good.

Lanolin, chalk and musk. Palate has a touch of sweetness about it that I like. Good length and texture.

Sweaty, spice and perfumed florals. Good texture, there is some phenolic influence and the barrel fermentation has given it some extra interest. A good introduction to the range.

Herb, earth and spice elements on the nose. Palate is clean and clear, with the acidity ending up quite bracing towards the mid and finish of the palate. Needs time to settle and develop.

Bark, apple, lemon and apricot. The palate is quite opulent and broad in style, with the drive from the acid a welcome element. Does coat the mouth and with some richer food this would probably be quite at home.

Herb and lemon butter. Rounder on the palate, with the acid taking a backseat. Good texture but I can taste the alcohol coming through as well. Not feeling it today.

Spice, oak, straw and pineapple. Palate is rich in style, with plenty of power. Nice length, this wine will hit its stride in a couple of years.

Smokey sulfur, peach and apple. Rich and ripe on the palate, the focus from the acidity does arrive in time and it is given some focus as a result.

Biscuit, peach and apricot aromas. Medium length, this feels quite ripe but it retains its balance throughout. There is a spice element that gives it some interest. A while since I've tried a Virgilius and I'll have to come back and look at another soon.

Lime, spice and some straw. The palate is clean and is not yet showing a great deal of interest. Pretty classic in style. Medium length and with time this should be a rather nice wine.

Quite aromatic - spice, cherry, lime and florals. Good balance and texture. Flows well. A really solid wine that I look forward to trying future vintages of.

6 g/l of residual sugar. Floral, lime, lemon and spice - quite intense nose. Clean and pure on the palate, the residual sugar is barely apparent but it just adds an extra layer to the fruit. I was very impressed.

Pineapple, slate and spice. Good texture, with a light phenolic element. The balance ensures that the wine flows really well. The fruit has depth and dimension. The Chaffey Bros lineup at this tasting impressed me greatly.

Earth, musk, melon and papaya. Palate initially seems quite rich but it snaps back into focus really quickly. Nice length and texture, I really enjoyed tasting this wine, with so much interest even with no development yet.

Spicy oak and straw on the nose. The palate is full, there is some acidity that performs a much needed lift through the middle of the wine. A little in between styles for me, but still quite enjoyable.

Rose petals, lychee and papaya. Plenty of spice on the palate, there is a fair bit of sweetness (quite Spatlese-eque) that I think works really well in conjunction with that spice and the acid core. Interesting and quite memorable.

Cherry, plum, redcurrant and ash. Nice brightness on the palate with good balance\. Lovely now even though it is obviously young. A small step up on the 2011 at this youthful stage.

Ash, redcurrant, smoke and meaty aromas. Good tannin profile, there is a very pleasing blend of sweet and savory red fruits. The structure gives it plenty of potential to be a kick-ass wine down the track.

Stem, cherry and raspberry notes. Nice acid, it does have some texture but otherwise seems a little simple. Despite that, there is plenty to enjoy on the surface.

Cloudy colour. Black cherry, earth, spicy oak and ash. Bright acidity carries the meaty fruit flavours. Really good stuff.

Floral, graphite and spice notes. Palate has good cut and drive. Well balanced, with a savory fruit element that gives it a little extra interest over the core of sweet red fruits. Nice length as well.

Mint, redcurrant, spice and tea leaves. Medium-full bodied, the mint character does persist on the palate. Good length, this will benefit a good deal from extra age in the bottle..

Perfumed, with cherry, violets, musk and pepper styled spices. The acid is prominent on the palate, which does tame the boldness of the fruit for now. Good length.

250 cases made. Tobacco, plum and smoke. Palate has good drive and the fruit is powerful without being over-done - it is ripe but held back enough to not feel full-throttle.

Blackcurrant, plum, graphite, spice and raspberry - really nicely aromatic. Palate is composed and balanced very nicely. Plenty of fruit there but it has layers and excellent structure. Fantastic showing tonight.

Musk, truffle and earth. Palate is high in acidity. Medium length.

Incense, spice and lots of stalk. The palate is quite sour and sweet, with the sourness taking a bit of a lead. Not convincing to me on this occasion, despite me being a big fan of the wines normally.

Stalk, earth, tar and vegetal notes. The palate has the same sweet/sour element at the Yarra Valley 2014. I think I'd struggle to drink a full glass of this even though it is somewhat interesting.

Of the three regional wines from 2014, this was my favourite by quite a margin, though it was not a tough ask. Rubber, meat, stalk and tar on the nose. Very light in fruit profile, there is some texture. Maybe just not the right occasion to try these wines as they were quite confronting.

Spice, cherry, earth and incense. Palate shows off some bright fruit and is high in acidity. Interesting stuff, but I'd need more time with this to work out if I really like it or not.

Lifted nose of bubblegum, musk, cherry, redcurrant and lemon. The palate is bright with a fine line of acidity and plenty of texture. Medium length. A little bit more obviously tasty than the 2012.

Tobacco leaf, oak and cherry. Medium-full bodied and medium length. A well-made wine that will age decently over the medium term.

Blackcurrant, cedar, spice and some soapy florals. Medium bodied with good composure and flow. Very pleasant drinking.

Violet, cherry, redcurrant and some savoury meaty notes. Good intensity on the palate, there is plenty of structure that works well with the vibrantly youthful fruit. Will age very well.

Cherry, ash, cedar oak, graphite. Plenty of tannin on the palate, there is a good core of rich fruit that makes me think that this will come together really well with time. At the moment it is approachable but it will be better if you can wait.

Stalk, undergrowth, spice and cherry. Medium bodied fruit, with a line of acid that drags it along. Good quality tannins give it some structure that should let it age over the medium term.

Truffle, violet, raspberry and undergrowth. Palate shows a pleasing mix of savory and sweet fruit - there is a vibrancy to it, but it does have depth as well. Good carry and has the structure to age over 5-10 years.
