Flight 2 (2 notes)

White

Nice weight here, quite dense and viscous texture, but a mineral line and lightness through the finish. Long. Richer and fuller than the 13 alongside. ****

A little lighter and more elegant, and slightly more herbal than the 14 alongside. Opens up in the glass and rounds out well again, lovely. ****

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2008 Gérard Mugneret Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Mid to full garnet. Let dense and seemingly more evolved than the 09 alongside. Minerally, relatively lithe, some sous-bois. A freshness too. ***1/2

Fuller, deeper, redder than the 08. Rounder and glossier, this is really quite poised and stylish. Padded without being podgy. Long and starting to show some complexity. ****

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
2004 Fiorenzo Nada Barbaresco Manzola Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Floral, fragrant. Fine with some body on the finish. Very scented. Lots of interest here. ****

More obvious oak here, lots of vanilla on the nose. Similar profile to the 04, just more padding and gloss and youth. ***(*)

Really feral when first poured. Quite the wrong end of a fox. However, after fifteen minutes this blows off to reveal a very interesting wine with lots of sweet fruit, depth and complexity. Silky with some depth and elegance allied
To a plushness. Lovely balance. ****

Plush, smooth and with slightly briary medium red fruit. Quite a lot to this. Reasonably long and smooth, almost too smooth. ****

White
2009 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Just lovely. A touch of oak, oatmeal, a hint of something herbal and a dollop of whipped butter. Very precise on the attack, opening to a more expansive and nuanced mid palate, and finishing long with a cut and linearity. Note quite the extra depth and grip of the Coche D version, but gorgeous. ****1/2

Mid to deep ruby. Lovely depth of mid red fruit in the raspberry to mulberry spectrum. Just starting to show a hint of truffle development. Lovely on the palate, silky, with precise fruit and a bit of extra width from the emerging tertiary flavours. Drinking beautifully but still a youngster. Serious wine. ****1/2
