White - Sparkling
1989 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne

Starts out a little groggy and grumpy, but opens up in the glass and blossoms with aromatic layers of mature white fruits and mineral. The palate is still fresh with restrained acids and modest bead. Fully mature and nice but probably better in days gone by, for my palate.

Wow, this is an epic bottle of Champagne. The nose is full, layered and majorly intense. Gorgeous mature aromas of aged fruit and caramel married with still youthful citrus and mineral notes. Amazing combination of complex, layered flavors and totally youthful acidity and bead on the palate. I can't say enough about this bottle of Champagne.

White - Sparkling
1996 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
A bit of a riddle for me tonight. The nose is subdued with a funky note that distracts from the underlying apple, cream and brioche. I initially thought it could be corkiness, but decided it was just funk not TCA taint. The palate is big and bold with powerful, driving acid and bead. Concentrated, youthful apple fruit and biscuit. An odd showing with the weird nose and brooding palate. Others didn't have any issues with the bottle and liked it more than me.

White - Sparkling
1975 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne

Medium nose is mostly aged white fruits and earth tones. The palate shows slightly more youth as the acids are still present and freshen the fruit. Ultimately a bit one-dimensional, simple and worn out.

1998 Dom Pérignon Champagne P2 France, Champagne

Full, broad nose has youthful, exuberant aromas of crisp apple and biscuit. A real gorgeous palate with driving acid and youthful energy. Super chalky and mineral. Long, stretched out finish. A great bottle of Champagne.

White - Sparkling
2002 Pol Roger Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne

Full nose with lots of fresh, bright youthful apple and citrus fruit. Nicely delineated aromas. On the palate this is full, richly fruited and expansive. Lively bead and driving acids. Young, but in a good spot now.

2002 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses France, Champagne

Yum, full intense nose has exotic spice, apple, pear and chalk. Rich and full on the palate. Round fruit is lively and even electric at times. Great length. Entering an ideal drinking window.

Rosé - Sparkling
2002 Philipponnat Champagne Juste Rosé Clos des Goisses France, Champagne
A brutish and young Champagne. Full nose is burly and non-delineated with powerful apple fruit and biscuit (no real rose/red fruit notes at all). Palate is also burly and angular. A substantial wine that is providing much pleasure now and seemingly in need of lots of time.

Found this showing tired. The nose has oxidized notes of sherry and caramel that are prominent. Bubbles on the palate are quite muted. Still has decent acid and lift. This bottle appears to have past it's peak.

This is a Champagne at peak. The nose is full with intense aromas of youthful apple fruit, biscuit and chalky minerals. Palate is similarly singing -- lovely lift to the mature fruit and brioche layered on chalky mineral. Super lively and persistent. Caught this one at peak.

White - Off-dry
2001 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese * Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Drinking on point with good balance of rich, sweet white fruit and zesty acidity. Medium-to-full body that glides nicely across the palate. Still with a youthful, rich fruit profile. Nice length.
