White
2011 Bouchard Père et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
94 points
Tasted double blind, thought it 2007 Grand Cru. Apple and pear, rich without being too ripe. Very balanced, very long finish.
White
2005 Domaine d'Auvenay (Lalou Bize-Leroy) Auxey-Duresses Les Clous Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses
90 points
Tasted double blind. Very ripe, very oak spiced at first I wondered if New World, but the minerality brought me back to Burgundy. So next I thought Leflaive 1er Cru, given the richness. Very powerful, very long.
White
2008 Domaine Dublère Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
92 points
Still fresh with lots of energy. Apple and some lemon zest, lemon curd. Very good depth, balance.

2014 Trimbach Riesling Alsace Grand Cru Schlossberg France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

First vintage for this wine? Lots and lots of green and yellow apple with some lemon zest. Very long, very elegant already.

2015 Maison Leroy Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
86 points
Ripe red cherry with some cherry pie spice. Simple, its moderate weight but nicely balanced.
Red
2002 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
92 points
Black fruit, nicely and slowly evolving. Roasted meat notes, most notably on finish. Good depth, very good balance and length.

2007 Lucien Le Moine Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
90 points
Served double blind. Correctly identified as Vosne 2007 1er Cru. Good Asian spice, red cherry, moderately mature, slight herbaceousness on finish.

2005 Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
93 points
Served double blind. Clearly ripe, very accessible, I thought it a great 1999 Vosne 1er. Powerful red fruit with subtle spice. Very long, very powerful, still slightly firm finish. Great already, with upside. Seemed to shut down after an hour+ in glass, with the structure I would expect from 2005s really coming to the forefront.

1966 Domaine Pierre Gelin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
92 points
This is all about slowly cooked, slowly reduced mushroom with balsamic vinegar thrown in at the end. Some lingering black cherry aromas, slightly more on palate. Some people didn't enjoy this wine, but perhaps they shouldn't drink as much old Burgundy at this level.

1996 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
92 points
Tasted double blind. I was torn between Chambolle and Vosne, with its red fruit fruit, spice profile and textural charm. While this isn't come across as classically Bonnes Mares, the young vines explain that moderate power. At its peak now, more finessed than powerful.

2014 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
91 points
Tasted double blind. Thought it 2010 or 2012 Burg Grand Cru, but could not identify place. Red and black cherry with some meaty character. Ripe, firm, while overall still nicely balanced.

Flight 2 (17 notes)

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Ruinart Champagne Brut Rosé France, Champagne
89 points
Orchard fruit with berry notes. Moderate weight and length, good textures and balance.
White - Sparkling
2000 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
93 points
Apple with lemon peel. Starts ripe, finishes with the mineral and zip that I enjoy in great Champagne.

White
1996 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Lots of rich apple and pear aromas with balance of ripe fruit, sweet spa ice and floral charm. Incredibly fresh for its age, I thought it much younger. Only nit is that the new oak still slightly protrudes.
White
2012 Domaine Bruno Clair Morey St. Denis En la Rue de Vergy Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
86 points
Lots of peach and spice. Very good concentration but seems a little more ripe than I would prefer.
White
2008 Domaine Roulot Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
89 points
Started off slightly reduced with leaner apple and lemon and floral hints. The reduction and lemon went away after 10-15 minutes in glass, and the wine picked up weight. Very good Villages wine right now.
Red
2001 Domaine Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
flawed
Slightly heat damaged.
White
1997 Domaine Leflaive Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
93 points
Tasted double blind, I thought 2002 Batard. Rich and ripe, but clearly well balanced with wonderful savory spice and mint. Everything in harmony. Shocked at the vintage when unveiled.
Red
2006 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
93 points
Tasted double blind, I immediately thought this was Jadot CSJ from 2008 or 2009. Rich and very black fruit driven with roasted meat and woodsy spice. Very good power, freshness and concentration. Very good now with upside.
Red
2004 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
Small glass, brief note. Black fruit with moderate concentration, roast meat and leather. Not a powerhouse, but very nicely balanced. Not the most complex Jamet, but very nicely balanced.
Red
1988 Georges Lignier et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Combottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
89 points
Open an hour before tasting in Combottes flight. Very mature black fruit, slightly mushrooms, slightly earthy, slightly bretty. Good overall, best when first poured. Not that interesting 30 minutes later.
Red
1988 Domaine Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
92 points
Double blind in Combottes flight. Great red cherry, berry aromas w8th whole cluster spice and dried roses. Great nose, similar flavors, just slightly less exciting. Good+ weight, slightly abrupt finish. Most others liked this most in the flight, I preferred Dujac 93.
Red
1993 Domaine Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
93 points
Blind in Combottes flight. Rich and spicy, so clearly whole cluster. Rich red berries throughout with enough structure to keep it bright. This wine kept opening and closing over 2 hours in glass. My fav of the flight, while most preferred the Dujac 88.

1990 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Small glass, brief note. Extremely rich and concentrated. Powerful, tasty stone fruit. Slightly short of acidity,, but isn't that 1990? Slightly more advanced than I would prefer, but very tasty.

1989 Le Bahans de Château Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Served double blind. I thought 1980s left bank. Very Cabernet, moderate weight and power. I didn't think this from as good a vintage as 1989.

2004 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

Small glass, brief note. Black and blue, very rich and well rounded. Not a powerhouse, but charming and elegant. Good now, better in 5 years.

Small glass, brief note. Old school, more rustic than I would ever want.

Tasted over 2 hours today, this kept unfolding and evolving in so many great ways. Always with mature red cherry and berry with Asian spice, butnthis started slightly compact and firm, but finished lush and inviting.
