Introduction

Frans always has some gems for a nice party.

Flight 1 (8 notes)

Red
2008 Château Fombrauge France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
88 points
Sweetness/ripeness in the bouquet, very creamy, polished, bit low in acidity, tasty, but missing some complexity.

88 points
The mousse is a bit hefty, the bouquet shows a bit sweetness; the wine is very pure and friendly.

White - Sweet/Dessert
1997 Château Sigalas Rabaud France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
87 points
In the bouquet there is some grass besides a friendly sweetness, a whiff of caramel, overall a bit too middle of the road.
Red
2009 Château La Ganne France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
89 points
A severe nose with cabernet bitters; in the taste the wine is also severe but not unfriendly. Lovely bitters in the aftertaste. Two hours later the wine becomes more juicy. This wine absolutely needs some years to mellow; not a standard Pomerol!
Red
2004 Château La Tour Carnet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
91 points
A surprise with its charming and fruity bouquet, a whiff of leather, some vanilla, cream and ths impressions continue in the taste. This is a ripe and balanced wine, gaining more secundary notes (tea) with a couple of hours of aeration.
Red
1975 Château Batailley France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
90 points
A magnum, starting a bit shy, but very lively with some fruit. Two hours later the wine really blossoms with better tannins and more body. It is a gentle and refined bordeaux and in magnum worth looking for.
White
2018 De Kleine Schorre Auxerrois Schouwen-Druiveland Netherlands, Zeeland, Schouwen-Duiveland
86 points
Very young, needs air, some sweetness (the backbone is still hidden), a whiff of mint; has the possibility to gain in quality with some bottle age and aeration.
Red
2003 Château Giscours France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
91 points
Fresh ripeness and spices in the bouquet, firm and balanced and, important in 2003, has good tannins; only in the finish there is some heat.

Closing

La Tour-Carnet 2004 was a real surprise, but do not forget the Batailley '75 in magnum.
