Noizé, London

Tasted November 26, 2019 by Paul D with 182 views

Introduction

Organised by Seckford wines - with Guillaume and Francoise Tienpoint.

Flight 1 - La Gravette (2 notes)

With hand-cut tagliatelle, chanterelles, braised oxtail

Red
2014 Vieux Château Certan La Gravette de Certan France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
90 points
This shows ripe blue/purple fruits, a touch of earth. No more than medium bodied, it is open-knit with supple tannins, good depth of fruit with blueberries, plum and a touch of pepper, attractive fresh acidity and a good length harmonious finish. Drinking well, though there is no particular hurry.

This is altogether more brooding and serious, with dark fruit, a touch of tar, medium/full on the palate, soft tannins, medium acidity, some tannins showing on the slightly constricted but good length finish. Will probably be better in a couple of years.

Flight 2 - 1990 Vintages (2 notes)

With Roasted Duck Breast, shallot puree, hispi cabbage, pied bleu mushroom

Red
1994 Vieux Château Certan France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
89 points
This has a lovely, mature but still fresh nose of antique furniture, leather and spice. The palate is medium bodied, tending towards the lean, with autumnal fruit and spice, lovely fresh/vibrant acidity and then some savoury red fruit coming through on the finish. The finish isn't overly long but this is a lovely, if slightly old-fashioned mature wine, probably for drinking up over the next 2-3 years.

Red
1998 Vieux Château Certan France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
94 points
This shows rich, ripe plum and blueberry fruit, vanilla, a touch of earth and spice. It is medium/full bodied, with intense plum and blueberry fruit, soft tannins, lovely contrasting fresh acidity and a touch of leathery complexity starting to show on the long finish. Whilst this certainly can be approached now I would expect it to be better in 5-10 years. Excellent wine.

Flight 3 - 2004/2011 (2 notes)

With venison wellington

Red
2004 Vieux Château Certan France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
92 points
Open nose with blackcurrant, and vanilla. Still quite primary. Medium bodied, black fruit, touch of liquorice, soft tannins, attractive vibrant acidity, very good length finish. An excellent 2004, just starting to drink.
Red
2011 Vieux Château Certan France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
90 points
This has an interesting, fresh, smoky, slightly peppery nose. Medium bodied on the palate which is more fruity than the nose - tending towards the red-fruit end of the spectrum, some firm but fine tannins still which some through a touch on the good length finish. Interesting and should improve.
