Flight 1 (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
1991 Beaumont des Crayères Champagne Nostalgie France, Champagne
At first some exuberant cola and caramel notes, which fade into sherry. The acidity is there but the mousse is almost all gone.
White - Sparkling
1996 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année France, Champagne
Served double blind. Toast and very generous fruit on the nose, but rather hard mousse with high energy and lots of tough acidity. Some Basset's sour wine gum candy. But the finish is long and straight which is really all in one piece. I guessed a 2004 Bollinger. Has a lovely development during the evening. Recommended.

White - Sparkling
2002 Comte Audoin de Dampierre Champagne Grand Cru Grand Vintage France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Both green and red apples, some sweetness in the fruit, a touch of bitter on the finish which starts ut rather strict. Surprisingly youthful. However, it fades during the evening, during the mid point of the arch it has expressed a very generous creamy texture and taste, that I really like. Impressive from a rather old bottle from a producer that I never buy and always have felt is a little too highly priced for what it is, in the Swedish stores at least.

Flight 2 (4 notes)

White
2010 Domaine Rémi Jobard Meursault Les Narvaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Fairly green on the nose with some grass notes, as well as some deftly applied luxury oak that is not fully integrated yet. Very good acidity, some fat on the body, a little spice from fruit and/or oak on the finish. Very very good and with the future ahead of itself. Highly recommended.
White
2018 Château Vannières Bandol Blanc France, Provence, Bandol
Some green veggie and fruit and flower aromas that feel youthful. Beautiful texture with round supple feel like a fine (yes, as in more expensive) Rhône white with energy coming from something other than acidity (this is 95 % Clairette and 5 % Bourboulenc). Some tough notes on the finish that feels like an alcoholic kicker at first but transforms in to something more like spice (black pepper and nutmeg perhaps). Recommended but needs time.
White
2002 Michel Colin-Deléger et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Remilly France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Served double blind. Rich chardonnay nose with some oak, body has quite some fatness to it, good acidity but really the opposite of the Jobard Narvaux 2010 tasted side by side. Has some interesting complexity on the nose (real chardonnay juice with age has that truffle or underwear like pungency, this is a third of the way there, a hint of oxidized apples as well). A little saline streak on the finish makes this more interesting. I guessed a 1er cru from Beaune from the warm vintage of 2005.
White - Off-dry
1976 Martin Seul Oberweseler St. Martin Riesling Auslese Germany, Mittelrhein
Very brown color and a nose full of port and sherry notes but very fresh (English Christmas cake). More off-dry than full on sweet on the palate, typical of older Ausleses from lower pedigree. Quite good with the foie gras! But one glass felt like enough. Really a lot of fun to try this!

Flight 3 (6 notes)

Red
2015 Kanonkop Paul Sauer South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch, Simonsberg-Stellenbosch
Served double blind. Immediate graphite, ceder and sweet cassis juice. Instant recognition of this type of fruit forward cabernet sauvignon that still is not over the top in terms of extraction and alcohol. Big but balanced. Very good freshness and rounded mouthfeel. Lovely. I will save my remaining bottle some more time then. Highly recommended.

2000 Château Duhart-Milon France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Served blind but recognizable as my wine by deduction (only Bordeaux blend with some age on it in the line-up). This was timid compared to the 2015 Kanonkop Paul Sauer. But classic elegant medium bodied Pauillac with some nice tertiary notes (dry tobacco leaves, leather, dried cherries) and fully integrated. Is there some development still to come which will elevate this further or is it on its way down a long gentle slope? Time will tell. Recommended but keep in mind this is not a big brawler but more of a toned down intellectual in glasses, to be paired with perhaps grilled chicken or such fare.

2014 Château Vannières Bandol France, Provence, Bandol
91 points
Timid nose at first, a little too young. Needs time. But has good blackberry fruit, some licorice and herbal complexity and a strong grip that does overpower the beautiful texture of this rather inexpensive wine. A good buy for the cellar. Recommended.
Red
1980 Fratelli Serio and Battista Borgogno Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Some paint thinner and paint box, tough acidity and thin fruit but also some roses dried and fresh, kirsch and some smoky notes adding complexity. Really fun to try.
Red
2001 Domaine Font de Michelle Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Etienne Gonnet France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Great wine that was served double blind and had me far far away from Chateauneuf in my guesses. Such perfectly integrated and complex aromas and surely in peak drinking window right now. I thought it for sure had some structure and a bit of tar but mostly just beautiful fruit with some age on it and a medium body with good freshness. Highly recommended.

1947 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Gran Riserva Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Served double blind at the same tasting as Sebran. Agree with his notes.
Acidity a little bit out of whack but the nose kept changing from old pirate chest with murky wood to roses to coarsely ground black pepper. Fantastic experience.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

White - Sweet/Dessert
1959 Moulin Touchais Anjou Blanc France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Anjou
Sweet and spicy but also with freshness - like orange preserves. Excellent wine for its age. Lovely.
Red - Sweet/Dessert
1982 SCAMPERLE Recioto della Valpolicella Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Recioto della Valpolicella
Served double blind. I was the only one who really liked this, with its distinct taste that is one third red wine, one third medicinal herbs, one third sweetness (but not over the top sweet, more like chilled gluhwein). The freshness and low alcohol won me over after a long night of eating and drinking.
Red - Fortified
1965 Kopke Porto Colheita Portugal, Douro, Porto
Brilliant nose with all sorts of complexities and so fresh and lively. Equally excellent in the mouth. Loved it. Highly recommended. Need to get me some more colheita experience.
