Flight 1 - 1978 Starter (1 note)

Red
1978 Camille Giroud Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
91 points
A delightful and appealing aroma of earthy, dusty, mature black cherry with mushroom, dried florals and dried herbs. The palate is similarly complex if a little lacking fruit weight in the mid-palate (hardly a flaw in a 43 year-old wine). Ethereal, long finish.

Flight 2 - Lécheneaut (3 notes)

Red
2010 Fernand Lécheneaut et Fils (Philippe et Vincent) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
93 points
Single blind 10/07/06. Sexy, wide-open nose with spice, musk and floral-filled black cherry. Love the interplay of power and energy on the palate. Everything is in perfect proportion. Plenty of fruit and structure for this to age gracefully and yet so approachable, fun and interesting right now. Quite clearly the 2010 given the harmony.
Red
2007 Fernand Lécheneaut et Fils (Philippe et Vincent) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
90 points
Single blind 10/07/06. Similar in character to L1 (the 2010) with spicy, musky cherry but not as intense or delineated. The palate is a wine at peak with nice brightness and lift from the minerality. Texturally complex though doesn't quite have the grip of the 2010, showing more resolved and at peak in that regard. L3 (2006) showed very 2006 so was relatively easy to place this as the 2007 (though I might have thought it 2008, however that vintage was corked and eliminated).

Single blind 10/07/06. Aromas were over-ripe and trending towards dirty. The palate had loads of ripe fruit that lacked freshness and definition. Came across as brawny and without subtlety. Others liked this much more than me. The ripeness made it a pretty easy peg as 2006.

Flight 3 - Drouhin (3 notes)

Red
2005 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
90 points
05/09/10. Shows very 2005 and while drinking okay, the potential remains significant. Brawny and big with chewy tannin that makes the fruit seem almost dormant right now. Needs 10+ years.
Red
2009 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
91 points
05/09/10. The most ready and at peak of the flight. Ripe and slightly candied red cherry aromas with spice. The palate bursts with plush ripe fruit that is lively and fun. Plenty of spice and maybe a hint of Chambolle minerality. More 2009 than Chambolle was our consensus.
Red
2010 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
90 points
05/09/10. A rare case where the 2010 isn't drinking with approachability. This is still fairly tight and reserved. Aromas of red fruit with some hints of herb/spice. Plenty of concentration and rich fruit but the structure is significant and not integrated. A less burly version of the 2005. Plenty of upside from here.

Flight 4 - Bertheau (3 notes)

Red
2009 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
88 points
09/10/11. Fun nose of ripe candied cherry and strawberry with spice and herb. Fully approachable with ripe, plush fruit. Perfectly enjoyable but a bit simple and shows more Village-level than 1er.
Red
2010 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
90 points
09/10/11. Full nose with nice mix of strawberry, red cherry and black cherry with nuanced herb, spice and mineral layers. Good textural complexity and mineral that is classically Chambolle. Good but not at the level of other producer's 1er wines.
Red
2011 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
09/10/11. Decidedly and intensely green aromas of jalapeño and bell pepper with a modicum of fruit if you look for it. Extremely lean and compact palate. 80 points if I'm being generous.

Flight 5 - Musigny-ish (3 notes)

Red
2012 Domaine Anne Gros Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
90 points
Spice-led aromas with exciting, bright red cherry and strawberry. Lots of red fruit on the palate with nice spice and mineral character. Mid-weight fruit and concentration as you'd expect in a village wine.
Red
1999 Domaine Bruno Clavelier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru La Combe d'Orveau Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
93 points
Full and deep nose with earthy, herby black cherry. Still very young and fresh (served blind to friends and they believed it was younger than 2012). I think the concentration and youthfulness cloaks the emerging complexity of earth, mineral and dried florals that will pop as the fruit continues to mature and soften. Plenty of balanced stuffing to go another 10+ years.
Red
2007 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
93 points
Huge aromas of sweet, toasty black cherry with florals and spice. Wow, so much depth and engaging red and black cherry with power and elegance. Has that signature subtle brown sugar that i get from Vogüè. Baby Musigny, indeed.
