Tasted December 22, 2021 by Zweder with 94 views

Introduction

Just four persons in a very large living room.
We each brought a few bottles. The wines were poured blind.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
2011 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
92 points
Beautiful dark berries and oak in the bouquet. On the palate dark berries, some bell pepper, vanilla from the oak and a touch of sweetness. Beautiful acidity and round, sticky tannin. Good length. Still very youthful.
Red
2010 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
The bouquet is still locked but shows dark berries. Unfortunately on the palate the wine was not completely fresh. Slightly corked. No score.

The bouquet is still completely locked. Also on the palate the wine is still locked, but there are dark berries, vanilla from the oak, good acidity and sticky tannin. Good length. The wine holds a promise and will probably improve over the next decade. 93+ for today.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

Red
1995 Château Pontet-Canet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
93 points
Modest and civilized bouquet with dark berries and oak. On the palate lush dark berries, a lovely touch of sweetness, chocolate , beautiful oak, lovely acidity and still pleasant, slightly sticky tannin. Still young maturity stage. Beautiful and exclusive wine with still a future of at least 3+ years.

Fantastic, luxurious and complex bouquet with beautifully toasted oak and cedar. On the palate beautiful oak, ripe dark berries, cigar box, chocolate, a slight touch of sweetness and an enormous length. In a perfect drinking stage now and the next 3+ years.

Focused dark berries and oak in the bouquet. Graphite as well. On the palate dark berries, black olives, chocolate, tobacco, some green impressions, oak, a bit rustic. Firm acidity and firm, drying tannin. The bottle I had Sept 30th was popped and poured. The note above is about a bottle which had a five hour decant. Plenty of future in this wine. Waiting another 5 – 8+ years will be rewarding. 92 – 93++
