Introduction

We had a nice group of around 20 to celebrate a milestone birthday for Candace. It was great to get to meet her parents Duane and Cheryl too. The event was held at Spoon and Stable which pulled things off exceptionally well as always. We had some great wines on the night to mark this occasion. Geez, you're still a baby, with a beautiful old soul! Happy Birthday and many more!

Flight 1 (18 notes)

White - Sparkling
2011 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
94 points
Tasting pour. Just got a smidge of this, but it was enough to remind me that I'm glad i have a stash. Typical CdC elegance and poise. 93+ to 94pts.
Rosé - Sparkling
2008 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Rosé Vintage France, Champagne
94 points
Pale salmon color. Drank a glass over 15 minutes, from magnum. It's been while wince I had this last. Tonight's bottle was head turning good. This shad a power and depth that still maintained supreme elegance, gorgeous fruits with a blend of citrus and red berries, wonderfully toasty, almond cream, and fine chalk. Delightful, all of 94, maybe better.

White - Off-dry
2002 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
95 points
Lovely medium gold color. Drank a glass over an hour. Looking back my last note on this was from 1/2/11. Now 12 years later, the wine is like it was sealed in a time capsule and never changed. My notes are very similar. Ripe, with almost a sense of tingling effervescence, tropical, ripe peach, golden apple, pineapple, still taught with great acidity and freshness, slate minerality, very tangy, mild fusil, very long. Fantastic! 94+ to 95pts.
White
2009 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
93 points
Healthy light green pold color. Drank a glass over an hour. Very mineral driven nose and palate, oyster shells, lemon and stone on the nose with a sweet chantilly cream note; on the palate, lemon, white apple, lacquer, lean, oyster shell, waxy, light brine, with a strong acidic vein.

Small tasting pour. Apricot, red apple, cherry, floral on the nose. The palate displays red apple, crisp and lively, slate minerality, lager, chalk.
White
2013 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Tiny tasting pour. Excellent; lemon, apple, restrained, dry stones, medium bodied, nicely crisp. 92-93pts.
White
2018 Domaine Rion Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Terres Blanches Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Another tiny tasting pour. The nose is expressive with tangerine, lemon, orange blossom, almost juicy; the palate is more subdued but clean.

Dark red color. PNP, drank a glass over 90 minutes. Backup bottle. Tons of minerality and iron, dark cherries, red and black currants, earthy, medium full bodied, dried spices. 93+ to maybe 94pts.
Red
2009 Domaine Dujac Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

I didnd;t get much of this, just enough to know it was pretty awesome. Dense and structured, deep berries, smokey, sauvage, minerals, charcoal, tensile on the palalte, loved it. Wish I'd have gotten a bit more! 94 to 94+pts.
Red
2008 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Equinoxe Reserve USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Drank a small glass from magnum. Ths was a really fun bottle. It needed a little time to unwind. Deep, black cherry, blackberry, ripe and sinewy, juicy dark fruits infused with orange peel, with a floral aspect coming in later. Just a touch of heat at times. Thanks Brian! 92+ to 93pts.
Red
1983 Château Gruaud Larose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Followed a glass over 2 hours plus. From 6L. There's a ton of old school character here, funky, saddle and saddle leather, deep dark fruits, but there is some taint lurking, it wavered in and out, but mostly it was there. Scored reserved.
Red
1983 Château Canon France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
93 points
Very dark red/purple color. Drank a glass from magnum over an hour. Lovely, red raspberries, cherry, charcoal, grpahite and lots mineral character, full and layered, oak, good length.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1983 Château Rieussec France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Small glass over 30 minutes with my Honey Cake. Ultra ripe, apricots, orange peel, very sour, citrus zest, honey and spice. 91+pts.
Red - Fortified
1997 Niepoort Porto Vintage Portugal, Douro, Porto
Small taste. Nail polish remover, intense, blackberry liqueur, volatile. Did not work for me. No score.
