Introduction
Put together 12 Krug geeks and Olivier Krug. All bottles were from pristine conditions and cellars
Flight 1 (1 note)
Great Start, many gussed older and vintage. One of my favourite editions with 164.
Many of the guests could not guess Grande cuvee and guessed older. For me very fresh with some beginning roasted aromas. Great to drink at this stage but I would prefer it from regular bottle at the moment. 96
Flight 2 (2 notes)
The flight should be 1989 vs 1990 but some brought CdM 2000 instead of Collection 89, so I had to change the flights. CdM 2000 is by far the best from this vinatge
At his peak if you like it fresh. Some exotic fruits, very untypical for a CdM but with an amazing acidity structure, especially for this vintage. It was one of the unknown bottles in the tasting. Nobody could guess it. 97
Best bottle I had from the regular vintage 1989. Slightly more evolved than the CdM. At his peak. No reason for longer waiting. 95
Flight 3 (2 notes)
Both were the best 89's I had so far. CdM at his peak. Most preferred the CdM. Olivier guessed the vintages right.
In very good condition. Lushful fruitieness and great acidity structure. At his peak. 97
The best CdM 89 I had so far. At his peak. With bubbles. Still fresh. Side by side with the regular vintage. Fresher and more concentrated. 96-97
Flight 4 (1 note)
Without bubbles but a great still wine. Refeshig acidity
We had 3 different Private Cuvees from the 50 and 60ies. One was tired, was had no bubbles and one was great.
This one was without bubbles but all the Krug elements you love and expect. A refreshing wine with deepness and multi-layered. Some dried fruits, lemon tarte and oriental spices. 95
Flight 5 (2 notes)
The flight of the evening. Especially for Olivier Krug and me. No existing Magnums from the first generation.
A perfect Grande Cuvee 1st and 2nd Generation from Magnum side by side. For me both are perfect champagnes. You get everything what you wish. Both with bubbles, both fresh and the most multi-layered champagnes you can imagine. But the finish is fresh, filigree and precise. Olivier Krug never had both bottles from Magnum side by side. For him the most faszinating bottles of the evening. 99-100

Flight 6 (1 note)
Beautifully fresh
Unbelievable fresh, with bubbles, far away from his peak. Bright colour, almost no aging signs. Yuzu, lemon roll some biscuits. 99-100
Flight 7 (1 note)
At his peak
Compared to the Collection 1985 Magnum and the CdM 1988 a bit more evolved and at his peak. Pristine bottle with bubbles and freshness. Honey, biscuit and dried apricot. 98
Flight 8 (2 notes)
The best vintage from Krug since 1988 and 1979
Side by side with CdM 2002. Many drinkers preferred the stunning regular Millesime in this stage. For me head to head. maybe I would go slightly with the CdM. The density and freshness likewise is unbeatable. 99-100
The best Champagne in the 2000's, together with regular 2002. Again 99-100
Flight 9 (2 notes)
Too young
Side by side with the vintage 2008 (defective). Similar to the 2002 CdM, same concentration but less elegance. Easy to detect, some honey notes. , lemon peel. Fresh. 98
Flight 10 (1 note)
Wow, still time to drink it
One of my top 3 all time champagnes ever. from a great cellar. Still young. Lemon peel, saline. fresh and precise. At least 10 more years. 100
Flight 11 (2 notes)
A brutally perfect aged Collection
From regular bottle at his peak. Bubbles, lush. Roasted almonds, grapefruit peel. Spicy notes. 99
We had 3 different Private Cuvees from the 50 and 60ies. One was tired, was had no bubbles and one was great.
This one was over his peak. no rating
Flight 12 (2 notes)
Not my favourite vinatge but nice to drink now
Not my favourite vintage, but in a nice drinking window now. Some exotic fruits together with the roasted nuts. 94
Side by side with the regular vintage. Powerful, red berries and and refreshing acidity. I would always prefer CdM. More precise the regular vintage. 96
Flight 13 (1 note)
I had it the forth time in the last 5 month. Compared to the CdM 1996 much more evolved even when the CdA not reached his peak. Some milk chocolate notes beside the red berries. Winey champagne for the meat. 96-97
Flight 14 (2 notes)
Both Bottles in pristine condition
We had it before from Magnum. But even the regular bottle is a monster of multi-layerness. A complete kaleidoscope of aromas and freshness likewise. 98
We had 3 different Private Cuvees from the 50 and 60ies. One was tired, was had no bubbles and one was great.
This one was with fine bubbles and all the Krug elements you love and expect. Some dried fruits, lemon tarte and oriental spices. 97
Flight 15 (4 notes)
Some bottles too close the perfect evening
Didn't have it for a long time. Better than expected. 1995 is not my favourite vintage at Krug. Close to his peak. Saline, lush and balanced. 95
After all the Krugs it was a bit lost and shy but a very precise and filigree champagne. 95
Too young, energetic Burgundy with a discreet reduction. Some flintstone and creamieness likewise. Resfreshing salinity. 97
Perfect bottle to close the evening. Refreshing acidity from 2011. 93
Closing
One of my Top 3 tastings ever. All bottles but one were singing in a perfect way. Krug is dri kable in young stages but for the full experience you profit from 30-40 years of aging. Olivier told me that he had never the both Grande Cuvees from Magnum together. For me the highlights together with the perfect CdM 1988. The most exciting bottles you can get from champagne are old grande cuvees. I would prefer it to all other Krugs or other champagnes.
