Flight 1 - Chablis (4 notes)

White
2007 Domaine de L'Églantière (Jean Durup) Chablis 1er Cru L'Homme Mort France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Lots of oak. Butter and wood on the nose. Not much fruit or minerals, but the fruit present is clearly on the cool side like many 07 chablis. On the palate there are more minerals and good acidity. A bit low on concentration. Gets a plus for the vintage characteristics, but there are better premier crus than this on the market.
White
2006 Joseph Drouhin / Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
More open for business then the Clos 07 from same produser. Richer on the nose, more butter. Almost more like a Corton Charlemagne than like a Chablis. Still delicious though. The palate strikes me as slim (thin?), but with a beautiful elegance that ends in a very long finish with lots of minerality. It is lacking some concentration in the midpalate, but still an elegant and very fine wine.
White
2006 Simonnet-Febvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tight nose. More like Drouhins 07 Clos than his 06 Vaudesir. Interesting that the terroir here seems to count more than the vintage, especially as 06 and 07 in chablis are quite different. Almost no fruit on the nose. Some citrus and pear, and then there are minerals. On the palate it has lots and lots of minerals. Also some pear. Maybe a bit short on the finish, but tight and well structured.
White
2007 Joseph Drouhin / Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tight and very closed on the nose. Does not reveal anything but minerals. On the palate there are lots of minerals. Nice acidity and a very fine, long finish, but it lacks the intensity and focus of the few really great chablis producers.

Flight 2 - Corton Charlemagne (3 notes)

White
2006 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
This one has a lot more butter on the nose than the bâtards tasted just before. The oak is more evident. Also some youghurt/malo. On the palate it is super elegant. Slim, linear, precise and focused. Lovely acidity. Long finish. Today the palate is better than the nose, but this has lots of potential when the oak integrates. Bury in the cellar.
White
2006 Domaine Maurice et Anne-Marie Chapuis Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Lots of butter on the nose. The nose has a more direct appeal today then the Bonneau du Martray, but at the same time is less complex. Probably not the same potential for aging. On the palate there is not the same elegance and precision as the BdM. It also feels a bit thin in comparison. Does not show its class until the aftertaste, which is long and powerful.
White
2006 Joseph Drouhin Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Less butter and more fruit on the nose than the two other Corton Charlemagnes tasted. Also a bit tighter on the nose. Nice. On the palate it is a bit like the Chapuis. Not as structured and rich as the Bonneau du Martray, but the finish is very long and spicy, and with lots of acidity. Very fine wine.

Flight 3 - Bâtard-Montrachet (2 notes)

White
2004 Domaine Vincent et Francois Jouard Bâtard-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Not sure if this is the same wine as the Bâtard cuvee that already is on CT, but the bottle had "vielles vignes" printed on the lable, so I added a new wine.
I was lucky to taste this wine twice. It was the first wine we tasted after we entered the fête in the morning, and I also got a taste of it on my way out. And man did it improve with the 3 hours of air it got. Initially it appeared very young, with pears and some honey on a very concentrated nose. Also beautiful but a bit closed on the palate. Very long finish. Just delicious wine. Three hours later it showed fantastic concentration and structure. It was pure precision in the mouth and it had a focused linearity that just blows you away. Finishes with hints of grapefruit in a very long finish. Magic stuff!
White
2007 Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
A bit closed up and tighter than the Jouard and Guy Amiot wines at this point. The fruit is less evident both on the nose and the palate. On the palate there is a steely acidity, and the finish is everlasting. Great potential. I was lucky to run into the grower at a restaurant for lunch after the tasting, and could congratulate him on this very fine wine.

Flight 4 - Le Montrachet (1 note)

White
2008 Domaine Amiot Guy et Fils Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Barrel sample. Very tight nose of pears, yeast and lots of fruit. Concentrated. On the palate there is incredible concentration. The wine is almost attacking the mouth when it leaves the glass. Still it is slim and very acidic. Precise for a barrel sample. Long finish. Great stuff!
