Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
2006 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Red Hills Estate USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
93 points
I enjoyed this bottling the most out of the three poured at the event.
Most structure and the mouth feel was fantastic.
Best complete package and more ready to drink than the '07's, though this wasn't taken into consideration when generating my score.
Red
2007 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Premier Cuvée USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
90 points
Nice shroomy nose with light and lively red fruit. A little lean on the palate. Still very nice.
Red
2007 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Arcus Estate USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
92 points
Excellent weight and grip for this bottling. More well rounded than the Premier Cuvee but similar in style.
Still the nice earthy shrooms with quality strawberries and cream on the palate.

Flight 2 (4 notes)

Red
2007 August West Pinot Noir Graham Family Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
90 points
Consistently better than the Rosella's I feel.
Nice acidity and balance overall. Neither earth, fruit or spice was dominant.
Well done.
Red
2007 August West Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
88 points
Nice standard fruit driven bottling from a world class vineyard.
A bit lean and austere on the finish. Still a fine bottle.
Would spend that kind of coin in a different direction though.
Red
2008 August West Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
90 points
Very young showing juice as a whole. Definite potential.
Plush and opulent palate showing nice medium bodied super ripe red fruit. Little white spice.
Red
2008 August West Pinot Noir Graham Family Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
91 points
More accessible and overall well structured than the Rosella's (again).
Ripe round supple light red fruit. Some white pepper spice and light gravel components.

Flight 3 (4 notes)

Red
2008 Belle Glos Pinot Noir Meiomi USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
88 points
Very accessible. A ceratin crowd pleaser.
Shows distinct traits of Belle Glos juice but not as extracted and unique in terroir as the single vineyard bottlings - as one may expect.
Red
2008 Belle Glos Pinot Noir Clark & Telephone Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
91 points
Very young in the bottle. Nice earth driven juice - in fact, most terroir shown of the three tasted.
Red
2008 Belle Glos Pinot Noir Taylor Lane Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
90 points
More spice driven of the three. Nice light leather play too.
Red
2008 Belle Glos Pinot Noir Las Alturas Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
92 points
My favorite of the trio this vintage. This bottling shows a perfect balance of fruit, spice and nice shroomy goodness.
The palate is plus and shows the best overall mouth feel. I could drink this all day.
Quite accessible now but will age gracefully over the next 5 years.

Flight 4 (7 notes)

Red
2006 C. Donatiello Winery Pinot Noir USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
88 points
Fine bottling. A bit thin showing lots of acidity.
Red
2007 C. Donatiello Winery Pinot Noir Maddie's Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
89 points
Nice aromas. Still a bit tightly wound with a leaner finish than I would expect from a wine in this price range.
Red
2007 C. Donatiello Winery Pinot Noir Hervey Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
91 points
My favorite of the three single vineyards - this one bottled in magnums only.
Nice weight with some excellent earth driven funky aromas.
Palate is well crafted and show excellent balance on the finish.
Very nice for a special dinner event with a small group of eonophiles.
Red
2007 C. Donatiello Winery Pinot Noir Block 15 Floodgate Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
90 points
Weighty and the most fleshy of the single vineyards this vintage. Really nice.
Red
2007 Dominion Tantara Pinot Noir Rio Vista Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
91 points
Great, earthy, supple and filled with aromatic finesse.
This is a great bottling from a beautiful vineyard site.
Red
2007 Dominion Tantara Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
93 points
One of my favorite wines of the day. This show stopper had enormous amounts of Old World funk.
Lots of fresh mushrooms, rotting wood and damp damp clay and earth.
The palate is rich and well structured with beautiful silky tannins.
Red
2007 Dominion Tantara Pinot Noir La Colline USA, California, Central Coast, Arroyo Grande Valley
89 points
Spice driven, less funk.

Flight 5 (7 notes)

Red
2006 Cima Collina Pinot Noir USA, California, Central Coast, Monterey County
88 points
Fine. Fleshy cranberry play. A little dissapointed. I'm usually a big fan of Cima.
Red
2006 Cima Collina Pinot Noir Chula Viña USA, California, Central Coast, Monterey County
87 points
A little leaner than the regular AVA bottling.
Higher in acid and coming across a bit austere.
Again, don't know why this doesn't perform at the tastings but it did at home...
Red
2005 Cima Collina Pinot Noir Hilltop Ranch USA, California, Central Coast, Monterey
91 points
Most enjoyable of the table.
Very nice hillside fruit. Solid structure with a firm backbone.
Coming around nicely...may be time to drink one of mine with a nice gamey meal.
Red
2005 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Sonoma County USA, California, Sonoma County
90 points
Lovely funky aromas. Wet earth and peat moss.
Light strawberry. Palate is balanced.
Rosé
2005 Scherrer Winery Vin Gris USA, California, Sonoma County

90 points
Supple with nice extraction.
Red

Red
2007 George Wine Company Pinot Noir Ceremonial Vineyard Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
91 points
Each year this winery produces great juice.
A one man operation the fruit is picked at its optimum ripeness and the terroir of the vineyard shows its unique green moss and Indian spice components.
A bit steep in terms of price, yet I feel good supporting a small venture like this one.
Red
2007 Sequana Vineyards Pinot Noir Sarmento Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
91 points
Favorite bottling of the three from this vineyard. Great balance as a whole. Showing nice depth.
Fruit, spice, rock and earth are interwoven very successfully in this wine.

Decent easy drinking wine. Maybe not worth the price.
Red
2007 Sequana Vineyards Pinot Noir Sundawg Ridge USA, California, Sonoma County, Green Valley of Russian River Valley
90 points
High ratings from this bottling all around. Very enjoyable but not mind blowing.
Solid for about fifty bones, but does not live up to the hype.

Flight 7 (8 notes)

Red
2006 Hirsch Vineyards Pinot Noir USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
89 points
Not as balanced as I remember. Some austere spicy red vegetable notes on the back end of the nose and palate.
Still nice and fruity and quite light on its feet.

86 points
Lean and tart. One of my least desireable wines of the day.

Red
2007 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
94 points
With 9 months left in the barrel.
I don't know whether its unfortunate or not that the best wine at Pinot Days was a Cab, but that was the case.
From Howell mountain this gorgeous bottling has the nose of a cult Napa Valley wine.
Gobs of cherry cola, creme de cassis, leather and blueberries soar out of the glass.
The palate is endless showing massive amounts of glycerine and structure.
Lovely dark fruit, scorched earth, charred leather and wood lead to a monumental 60 second finish.
Fantastic.
