We tend to assess wine these days according to the density or otherwise of fruit. I would suggest that these are Californian criteria, which don't always map onto wines such as Claret. It is difficult to find an alternative language that might be responsive to the textural qualities of wine: "elegant" and 'delicate" belong to another age. But we should try.

This wine is admittedly light, with a rather subdued nose, almost Margaux-like in its understated perfume, but attractive. The taste likewise is hardly monumental, but possesses a delicacy and, above all, wonderful mouthfeel and longuer. This a wine that speaks of professional winemaking at its best, and of what can be achieved even in a year such as 2007. It lacks the stuffing to improve, but at the moment it is very enjoyable, and more than enjoyable - interesting - quite by itself (no food!): the wine is delicate, and will simply disappear behind whatever you are eating.

Very fine champagne, one to sip and consider, not to be guzzled as an aperitif

2014 Rustenberg RM Nicholson Stellenbosch Red Blend
Inviting black fruit, beautiful bouquet of violets. Palate has ripe black fruit and plums, really good concentration, some tannins, spice, quite primary but very drinakable now. Have three more bottles to see how this wine evolves. This is another superb wine from Rustenberg at a give away price from Majestic.
