Dark magenta in color. Nose is complex, molten berry, wafts of several different kinds of woods, lush herb notes. Taste is big in berry, but not jammy, with earthy notes throughout. I find this well-made, but it's just a nice Spanish take on Bordeaux blends. It lacks character that makes it unique and identifiable of place or price, and certainly isn't worth the excessive praise in the comments here. It's very good wine, but it's not ridiculously good. Will last many, many more years.

Medium dark magenta color. Nose of leafy bramble and plush forest fruit. Hot sense, astringent. Might need more time.

7/28/17, 2:26 PM - Yeah the reality is there's no elevated secondary floral characteristics that warrant a higher rating. It's a good wine, well above average for sure, it's just not a great one.

2014 Kirkland Signature Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley Red Bordeaux Blend
Generally I have been very happy with the Kirkland wines and find them to be very good for the price. This one was a swing and a miss. Rather bitter up front. Over oaked, harsh, and has an astringent taste. Not fruity. Nose is earthy and muted. Unlike some wines that need to breath and they get better, this one got worse.

2011 Result of a Crush Red Wine Walla Walla Valley Syrah Blend, Syrah

I can't seem to find any detailed description of what this blend consists of. Syrah to be sure however I would venture a guess there is some grenache in there as well (although maybe not since I'm not aware of Reynvaan producing any red grenache). It is lighter than most WA syrahs in my experience (and I've tried quite a few).

In any case, this is a lovely effort. Medium to medium-full bodied, consisting of notes of red raspberry, pomegranate, mushrooms, and damp earth. Fresh and vibrant. Great for sipping on a cool summer night. This is a great value, but hey, please don't raise the price!
  • JasonG commented:

7/18/16, 7:47 PM - Mostly Syrah, with some Viognier cofermented (which might be what you're thinking is the Grenache), and some Cab Sauv for color and body.

Probably bad bottle. Petrol and leather . Difficult to drink
  • JasonG commented:

7/18/16, 7:41 PM - Maybe marked as flawed so you don't drag down the overall score?

White
2013 Guild Winemakers Lot #8 Columbia Valley White Blend
Wow, this is actually a tasty, fleshy, Willamette blend that isn't clumsy. How much is it? $15. Works it out.
  • JasonG commented:

5/30/16, 7:20 PM - Not Willamete this lot/vintage. Clearly stated on label.

Medium brick red color. Nose of earth and flint. Taste of balsamic and undertones of rustic fruit. Extremely tannic finish with no secondary character. Full. Needs at least 3 more years, don't even think about it.
  • JasonG commented:

5/14/16, 6:33 PM - I don't think that's the case. It was technically sound and similar across 3 bottles that night.

Turpentine and thin, excessive bell pepper and tabasco. However I can comment on the color, a lovely medium brick red with machine oil orange-brown at the last two transitions. Your bottles may be great, ours happened to be flawed.

1/14/15, 9:37 PM - A friend brought it over. It was bought by his father from a signature NY importer in 1985 and kept in proper storage ever since.

- Aromas of ethyl acetate. It's overly acidic and has flavours of geranium with a medium body. Smooth texture with a short finish - Off notes at beginning and it never fully recovers. A little thin to support the alcohol.

There seems to be bottle variation on this wine. I have read mostly rave reviews, but also awful reviews. This wine initially gave off a strong alcohol nose but changed to that of cheap sherry. It tasted like sherry as well.
  • JasonG commented:

3/24/12, 9:00 AM - I would mark this as flawed so you're not skewing the overall score. The 3 bottles I've had so far have been fantastic.

Beautiful bottle of wine. Color was ruby with a hint of orange. Nose had all the funky pinot characteristics that I love. There was a healthy dose of wet earth and mushrooms, a little bit of strawberry twizzler and some baking spices from the oak. Mouthfeel was silky. Would purchase again.
