Very young and a little closed on the nose but showing more after some time and air. I love the palate. Nice tannins which let the wine stick in your mouth. Prunes and fresh strawberry. Nice acidity, good wine.

12/29/22, 12:51 AM - Yes, I'm sure. Well, not exactly but I used to write my notes on paper. Since 3 or 4 years I write them while drinking a wine in Cellartracker.
To get the administration of my cellar right I have put the old notes in Cellartracker.

Amazing!Totally unknown Chateau for me which should be way over the top. But it didn't. In top condition. Still red fruit left, good tannins, well balanced. What a surprise. But the seller, Haags Wijnhuis told me it was good. And it was.

12/27/22, 9:00 AM - Thanks for your reaction. I drank the wine 7 years ago and I can't remember.
Good point! Next time I will add it in my notes especially with such old wines.
    Cheers, Chris

This is young but I think very promising on what was showing last night. Crunchy crisp red fruits feast from sour cherry to cranberry over to strawberries. Very balanced acidity adds to the crispness. The wine is medium + intense on the palate and finishes long with a mineral aftertaste. Oak aging shows modestly in the back but gives it just that little extra.
Definitely decant for an hour or 2 to bring out the most or tuck away for a few years and hopefully be rewarded with all the tertiary treats Burgundy is famous for. Curious on how others see this wine's potential.
  • Kriz commented:

9/6/21, 9:09 AM - Very good note on this wine! Good potential ahead for this one. I have left one bottle of 'Bourgogne' 2010 from Barthod. No doubt it is good and alive. Especially the acidity in the 2018 will give it ageing potential. I think 10-12 years at the max.

It's okay. There's fruit, grip, taste and acidity. Okay for it's level.
  • Kriz commented:

8/27/21, 5:59 AM - Thank you for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the wine very much. I have two more bottles so maybe next the score will be a little higher. I had the wine with a very good Rully (white) and when one bottle is very good the other can show less than when you drink it on it's own. It should'nt but I'm not a professional.
However, a score between 80 and 85 means 'a good wine'. In my opinion this is a good wine. Tonight I'm drinking a Chambolle-Musigny 1er Charmes from Le Moine and hopefully that's an excellent (90 plus) wine... But it's from 2011 so I'm not sure. Keep drinking Burgundy! And of course maybe I was wrong. I will remember your post when I open the next bottle.

I like it. Classic. Nose with oak, tobacco, fresh cut wood and ripe black fruit. Nice palate with good acidity which makes the wine balanced and not too big.

Oak, sweet black fruit, oak again and some more oak. This is a silky smooth oaked wine. Some nice acidity. Better with time but I don't realy like it right now.
  • Kriz commented:

10/29/20, 2:44 PM - Taste is difficult because it's personal. I'm from Europe and have a preference for Burgundy, followed by Bordeaux, Rhone and Piemonte. Very classic...
To answer your question: Yes, the oak will integrate. I recently drank a 1994 Faustino and it was stunning. Also a wine which can have a lot of oak in it's youth.
This will improve with time but I don't think it will become classic.

5/13/20, 6:17 AM - Hi Lukas, I didn't write down if I decanted the wine. But I'm sure I did because I always do with wines which don't show. If you have (a) bottle(s) I should wait another 5 years at least.

Well stored. Cork perfect. Decanted until smoke showed which left a glass in the bottle.
Dusty nose of intense blackberry. The dust was pretty obvious. Beautiful pure nose of blackberry, ripe plums, cherries, touch of smoke.
Palate was big and rich with mushroomy blackberry with intense spices. There was a current undertone. Just loved that flavor. The spice was big and long. Really enjoyed this.
Such a fantastic wine. Dry, mouth coating tannins, of purity. I could taste the heat of the hills. It finished really dry and long with purple lingering spices.
See, this is the difference between the natural burn of wine acids with the added mouth burning of added acids. I can really taste the difference.
In the aftertaste some anise peeked through.

6:29pm.
Muted and more subdued from its original fruit it smells of more closed down tertiary notes of earth and mushrooms with burnt earth.
On the palate it has more earthen deliciousness with truffles and a candy taste with violets. OMG delish.

7:10pm
Dark, brooding, black earth, tastes like it’s from the underworld with a touch of joy of candied flowers. Just beautiful, but way below the 2015, which is godly!

Dark in color, the wine is loaded with licorice, truffle, smoke, and a background note of mint. Full-bodied, rich, dense and multi-layered, the wine exudes, dark, juicy, ripe, dark fruits on the nose and palate. The wine is made from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and will be aged in 60% new, French oak barrels. 94-96 Pts

Lot's of fruit, tannins and acidity. Nicely aged and of course there are some nice mature accents. But this is around € 100,- and I know better wines for less money.
  • Kriz commented:

5/27/16, 11:09 AM - Your question is which wines are better and cheaper than this particular Léoville? Let's stay in Bordeaux and than you have for instance:
    Domaine de Chevalier 2009
    Chateau Pavie Macquin 2009
    Leoville Barton 2009
    Chateau D'Issan 2010
    Almost every Grand-Puy-Lacoste

And I could go on with several wines from Burgundy, Chateauneuf, Côte-Rôtie.

  • Kriz commented:

6/29/15, 7:14 AM - I wish I knew. Buy a case and taste a bottle a year :-) But I also only have two bottles... I personally love young Burgundies. I sometimes try a 1er cru young. Not the GC's, which I keep for at least ten years. This wine will be great in 2026. But why wait? Enjoy!

A nose with flowers (those which are in soap, but I don't know which soap). Solid, powerful and tannic palate with oak and dark ripe fruit. Too alcoholic in my opinion. To put it in other ways: The alcohol is too present and therefor too much.

Great depth of fruit, nice minerality, plenty of stuffing and intensity. Starting to be in good place, will probably plateau from here. And even though there's not much ABV (14.0%), two glasses got the normally spongy mrs ubercuvee totally tipsy - two extra points for that (at least)

Chave Hermitage Dinner with Erin & Jean-Louis Chave (MK Restaurant - Chicago IL): From magnum, in 97/98/99 flight. This is a wine I've often enjoyed before and tonight's magnum didn't disappoint. Blackberry with faint liqueur hints, lots of black pepper. Great structural balance and textures. Jean-Louis talked about vintages such as 1998 that are less ripe that really let Hermitage showcase its granite character (vs limestone that comes through in riper vintages). I guess I really like granite. This might now have quite the long-term cellarworthiness of 1999 or 2004, but is a gem for now and the next decade+. My WOTN, while the majority preferred the 1989.
  • Kriz commented:

8/14/14, 6:46 AM - What a stunning tasting. Chave's Hermitage is so good. Good to see you agree with me on te scores for 1998 and 2004 rouge :-). I once had a similar tasting also with 1990 and 1983 Hermitage Rouge. Which, in my opinion, are even better than 1998. If you ever have the chance... Great to read your notes, it makes me smile! Thanks.

Wow!
What a wine!
Such a beautiful, beautiful, perfect wine this is.
Almost indescribable, and this again proves the greatness of the vintage.
This has to be the best ever vintage in Burgundy!
Period.
This wine is such a delicate and complex thing, I can’t even understand how this can be made from grapes.
This brings wine to a different level.
Such pure terroir and transparency we have here.
Unbelievable.
Weightless, minerals, so sexy and clean.
Flowers, air, purity and again minerals.
Not to mention the superb fruit, the fruit is pure magic.
This is up there with La Tâche and DRC R.S.V and Vogüé Amoureuses from the same vintage, as among my top ever wine encounters.
We had 10 vintages of Rousseau Chambertin tonight, tasted by 10 experienced tasters, and 8 out of 10 had this as wotn, with one who had this as runner up and one had it as the third best of tonight’s line up.
So to me there is not much doubt in the greatness of this wine.
Simply magic, and hence simply scored after that.
This will be a wine to tell your grandchildren about.

    7/3/13, 11:09 AM - Hi Stefan,
I heard there were bottle differences between the tables. I had to rate the wine I tasted. It's a beautiful wine with great balance. There were signs of ageing. I had the '95 together with the '86 (magnum). And you are right. I liked the young ones ('03, '09 and '10) more than this one. But, a great wine nevertheless. Try it in 10 years time and I will read your notes then. Enjoy drinking wine. Like Jean-Marie Guffens (Guffens-Heynen, Verget) once said: "there are no great wines. There are only great bottles". And maybe in this case that says it all.

    Chris
