This is so bitter and acidic that I couldn't finish one glass. I then decanted it for 2 hours with no change. Undrinkable.

11/27/23, 11:53 PM - It definitely was not flawed. I’ve had similar experiences with this wine in the past.

Color was good but the wine was way past its prime. Barely drinkable.

For a wine from a region not known to have wines that age very well, this 1960 has done so beyond expectations. There was a little mustiness on the nose when first opened but that quickly blew away to reveal a nose of caramel, cassis and black fruit. There was a slight bricking to the color but no where what I expected from a 56 year old bottle. There was very little tannins on the taste but has some acidity, and the fruit was still there. Very impressive wine given the age. I have posted a picture on this page to show the color of the wine.

1/17/17, 3:34 PM - Actually I had 4 bottles of 1960 (now have 3) given to me along with a 1969 by one of the directors of the winery.

  • mike410 commented:

    12/21/20, 2:38 PM - I'm not sure. I don't think it's worth very much.

This is as good as any Tignanello or Sassiscaia that I have ever tasted. Very slight bricking of the color, hard to notice. Very well balanced with red and black berries, cassis, and plum on the taste. This is an amazing wine at the moment and will go on for at least another two years.
  • mike410 commented:

4/14/19, 7:16 PM - That’s your opinion but I’ve never tasted either of those wines and scored them a 94.

After my first bottle was so tannic and tart, I decided to wait several years before opening my second one. I’m afraid age didn’t help much. Opening this wine it gives me the sense of fresh squeezed pomegranate juice if I squeezed the entire pomegranate, rind and all. It’s terrible bitter and tart. There are some good flavors in there but they are unbalanced and unintegrated. Not a fan. For all of you who scored this so high, I guess you like this style wine or maybe you’re giving it a 10 point bump for being a product of BC. For me, I won’t be buying another bottle of BC red wine, because apparantly this is a good one, and I really dislike it. I dumped my bottles down the drain.
  • mike410 commented:

12/14/18, 6:05 AM - I wouldn't generalize that all BC wines are like what you experienced. There are some excellent wine like Laughing Stock, Poplar Grove and my ultimate Bc wine Oculus if you can find it.

  • mike410 commented:

12/14/18, 6:12 AM - I find Osoyoos Larose the weaker of the BC premium wines. Same vintage from one bottle to the next could be a big difference. I avoid this wine, too much hype.

Drank after 1 hr decant. Was completely closed. Flat, no fruit nothing, nada. Tried after 2 hrs and not much improvement. Very disappointed. Bought 4 bottles at auction. Will need to wait at least a year to see if the 2nd is any better
  • mike410 commented:

8/27/18, 7:05 AM - Definitely too young to drink at 10 years old. I would wait at least another 5-7 years to get its true potential.

Nose of tobacco, leather. Taste of black berries, plum, and vanilla. The wine is slightly unbalanced with the acidity of sangiovese prominent. Despite that there is good body, and a very long finish. For a Quebec wine the cost of $55 is very expensive. Taking the price out of the equation this is a tremendous effort from a region not know for quality reds.I do not understand the other rating of 78 that was given. I just wish that when someone score a wine so low that they could at least explain why. I look forward to trying this wine again in a few years. I recommend this wine to anyone looking for something new and from a relatively obscur region.

2009 Château Cantemerle Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend
The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. It smells like mushroom and lead pencil. It tastes like forest floor and mildew. It might be a flawed bottle. I couldnt drink it. The CT gang are sàying that it sounds corked :)
  • mike410 commented:

9/11/17, 10:38 AM - Even though the cork is in perfect shape doesn't mean the wine can't be corked. I am sure your wine was corked.

  • mike410 commented:

9/11/17, 10:56 AM - Not at all. If it tasted like vinegar then you would probably have had an oxidized bottle which is doubtful in a 2009 Bordeaux.

Color: Dark and impenetrable, almost black. Nose: A bit subdued. Dark berries, something chemical that an artist would use to dilute his colors. Mouth: Also cedarbox. Well, this effort is somewhat underwhelming. A bit sharp and you also can taste the alcohol. I don't like the aroma very much. A hint of bitterness in the finish. Short finish. Better with food so I give this wine the benefit of the doubt. But it doesn't taste very typical either. Midpalate to finish is a bit watery. 85 is at the border of "very good" so I guess this is a very good rating for this wine. This TN might appear to be supercritical but hey this is a 2nd growth.
I liked the wine better the next day. Hence 2 points up.

3/16/17, 8:21 AM - Sorry to say but this is not a 2nd growth wine.

1960 Château Ksara Clos Saint Alphonse Bekaa Valley Red Blend
This was the ordinary vin rouge made by the monks
Probably a Cinsault/ Grenache/ Carignan blend. Not BDX like current Ch. Ksara
Gosh this is good. Herby, spicy nose, a little mushroom, then tobacco and fruit. You can still smell the fruit.
In the mouth there's lots of gentle sweet fruit, has a great purity about it, there's nothing musty, funky or tired here. Smoky notes and then a long lingering finish.
This is excellent. Tastes like something very good and old from the Rhone. Hard to believe that it is 56 years old

1/16/17, 4:32 AM - I couldn't agree more. Had a bottle a few weeks back and couldn't belive how well it aged. Cheers

This is an excellent QPR. Medium body and finish, this wine is perfectly balanced and I believe it's at it's peak. Nice taste of vanilla, plum, cherry and black and red berries. Very refined and well made. i would be very interested to see other people get into this wine to see if they share my enthusiasm.

Disappointing. Still very tight. Maybe just not the best vintage? Nicoise olives. Earth. Mushroom.

Just plain awful. All you can taste is vanilla. This is by far the worst oakey wine I have ever tasted.
  • mike410 commented:

9/1/15, 11:09 AM - It definitely wasn't a bad bottle. i was on a flight and had the opportunity to have the flight attendant open a few bottles. All tasted the same and the comments from the other passengers weren't so different from mine. I guess maybe the altitude had an effect on the wine. :)

UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2010 (Brussels): The bouquet is a bit reticent, but it is classical with dark cassis and beautiful oak. On the palate the oak is dominating in this stage but there are dark fruits, good acidity and tannin and a touch of pleasant sweetness. Everything in this wine is quite ok, but it all has to integrate. Give it at least 10 - 12 years of cellaring; so until 2020 - 2022 and then see how it shows.

12/4/12, 10:39 AM - Would you mind if I asked you how you got your hands on a 2010 Bordeaux? Here in Montreal, Canada we won't see these wines for another year. Just curious.

Really special wine. Great on first opening but not so special three days later. Rich, earthy, flavorful, smooth
  • mike410 commented:

12/4/12, 9:24 AM - A WINE IS SUPPOSED TO BE SPECIAL 3 DAYS AFTER YOU OPEN IT????

  • mike410 commented:

12/4/12, 10:35 AM - I don't know about anyone else but I read every note on the wines in my cellar. I'm anxious to try this wine but unfortunately I have only one bottle. It will be a few years before I do try it. Cheers!
