Pretty closed upon opening. Wonderful tension and balance between a concentrated red fruited Pinot and energetic fresh structure on the palate. Quite nuanced, floral, seeming to hint at depth before the structure closes in. Best to hold this vintage for now. Really impressive for its potential though.

My last ‘11. Seems mature. Some light bricking. Aromatic with rose petals palate is soft on entry and round, just a hint of narrowing on the back end. Savory, hints of bacon from palate to finish. Moderate depth, don’t see this getting better—but also doubt it’ll fade fast.

Followed over 2 nights. Intense and concentrated, with big drying tannins that faded on night 2. Dark crimson color. Intense palate, red fruits? With won mint an spice notes adding complexity. Lengthy finish. Enjoyable but expect this to continue to improve.

This was a fun wine. Ripe and fruity, nice concentration with just a hint of barnyard. Polite acidity. Some chalky tannins on back end.

Eh, nice flavor profile with green apple and some toast notes on the nose. Unfortunately rather flat and plump on the palate and quickly fades. Minimal depth here. And rather fatiguing on the palate in the Texas heat. Reminded me a Loire sparking chenin blanc. Poor QPR.

Very light highly structured acidic Pinot. Hints at depth but is pretty closed at this point. Awesome potential though. Hold 3-5yrs. BM was impressed.

We’ve been crushing these and enjoying the heck out of them. Great Texas summer drinking. Concentrated red fruits, almost sappy on entry—but plenty of fine acidity giveing this back bone. Chalky finish. Seems like an early drinker but it also isn’t even old enough to shed its baby fat. A little more forward and sappy than the ‘17, I think.

Remarkable turn around from my last bottle. There’s some serious bottle variation here. No heat or VA this time. Dark fruited, more blackberry and currants than any other profile. Merlot driven. Plush entry on the palate, quite polished tannin. High toned feel as this higher alcohol but hidden well. Oak in check. Nice wine, flamboyant fruit but balanced.

Awesome domestic Syrah. Intense and concentrated, back pepper spice and typical purple fruit. Strong acidity but balanced and quite fresh. Stoney finish. Drinks well now but upside as well as the tannins are a bit chewy still.

Followed over 2 nights. Light and crisp, but impressive depth. Starberry and spice flavors, bit of underbrush on the palate. Quite Fresh and crunchy on the palate. Accessible but could use some time

Followed over 2 nights. Nice mid weight bdx. Early maturity but in no rush and likely still with some upside. Shows some flint and leather on the nose but not particular expressive. Palate is accessible, nice semi-mature red fruit, leather, cedar notes. Turns a bit dry on the finish. A bit “four-square” at this point. Can drink or hold, but likely hold another 3-5yrs if you can.

Showed reduction and oak upon opening which was overbearing. After 3hrs decanted opened up beautifully. Meat and pepper notes, with rather muscular tannins. More reserved and understated than prior vintages with just a bit of fruity flair. Quite good, could use some
Time.

Nice mature bdx. Very easy going. Probably on a downward decline as the tannins are almost completely resolved. Mostly saddle leather and mushroom notes with dried fruits. Acidity still prominent on the palate, dry tannins on the back end. Turns a bit angular, thin and acidic on the finish signaling the best days are in its past. High should fill, perfect cork for age.

This had undergone a dramatic transformation. From 375ml. Smooth entry, quite polished. Nice depth on the palate, leaning toward ms a slight darker flavor profile. Just a hint of spice profile adding complexity. Some mild vanilla oak notes that are much better integrated with the fruit. Impressive Pinot, much improved from 7mos ago.

Not sure I like where this has evolved. To me dill and oak note dominate the nose. Monolithic black fruit on the palate, chunky tannins. Gained some lift and spice with air. Not a lot of nuance or depth. Will likely hold my other bottles and hope for better day.
Got worse on night 2. Dry angular tannins, quite bitter. I think its best days are in the past. Have 2 more bottle.

Beautiful crimson color. Fragrant nose, some strawberry and spice notes. Palate is concentrated, red fruited, quite spicy with hints of mint. Tannins are rather pro mint, but more in check with the fruit on nice two. This is drinking especially well, with the fruit accessible and in balance to the tannins. I assume it may shut down at some point—but appears to be quite enjoyable unit it does.

Darker fruited, ahowing more black fruit and currants. Some barnyard on the nose. Quite tannic, more coarse and cherry than polished, but in check with the fruit. Strong finish. Good young bdx, could use some time given the strong tannins. A nice mid weight bdx.
On night 2 the tannins softened and it showed a bit of flint.

Solid. Seems mature. Lovely mature earth and mushroom notes. Some dried cherry notes mixed in. Quite flesh on the palate it losing some of bits hard edges giving this a plush mouthfeel. Nice integration. In a good drinking window.

Decanted a few hours. Smooth, silky frame. Almost too soft compared to a young Syrah—but on its own is had a plush and caressing texture. Fine tannins, quite light. Sweet vanilla on the back end. Fruit profile leans darker, more black currants than red or blue fruit. Well put together. Drink now, could hold some (mild) upside, in my opinion.

Fantastic Syrah. Definitely on the savory floral end of the spectrum. Floral spice and pepper notes on the nose. Palate is lithe, sharply cut, and showing just a hint of fruit mixed with pepper, leather, and a savory herbaciousness. Holds the finish well despite this being a mid weight “crunchy” wine.

From 375. Opaque, dark, extracted, with glossy oak. Enjoyable on night 2. This is full throttle, not particularly nuanced. Just a hint of roasted fruit but no heat or other issues. Good freshness for scale of the wine.

Still not sure about the 11’s. Maybe in an odd spot, but always seem to show rather mature fruit, mostly savory elements at this point. No primary fruit left. Color with a little browning—but gains significant lift and elegance with air. Nose is where it’s at, quite floral and elegant, with rose and savory earth character. Palate while fresh, is a bit thin and lacking complexity. Not sure if this will add depth, but time will tell. Drink or hold.

Expressive nose. Dark cherry notes, quite bright, lots of “interesting” herbal notes that I think must be from the whole cluster. These seem to had a herbaceous lens’s, and bitterness to the mid palate. Distracting at this point. Even after 4hrs air were quite prominent. Palate is otherwise well crafted and poised, ripeness of the fruit well judged and with appropriate acidity. This is a tough one to sort out. Best to hold I think.

Given A 3hr decant. This is showing some maturity with more tar and leather than fruit. Elegant but still quite structured. Holding the palate well into a long finish. Pretty strong tannins on the back end that showed better with food.

I don’t usually drink these so young but was curious and the vintage supposedly precocious. This is enjoyable now but needed a few hours air. Lovely congregated red fruit notes, cherry, raspberry and cassis. Spices with anise and herbs de Provence. Despite the ripeness, solid core of acidity and mild tannin. No sense of heat. Tannins really bite on the finish profiling the needed structure. Excellent young CdP. Lots of upside as well.

This is starting to come around. Adds depth with air so keep that in mind. Clear, pure expression of cherry fruit. Has an element of tartness on the palate. Tannins still present adding a bit of bitterness on the finish. Palate is lean, fresh, focused. Just now opening up. Vibrant red color is another point of its youth. Drink or hold (best to hold).

Big red fruited CdR with strong sappy raspberry and strawberry notes. Nice notes of kirsch and Provincial spices add complexity. Tannins are a bit chunky. Doesn’t have the freshness of other recent vintages which I defiantly miss—but this seemed more balanced on night 2 giving hope that a little bottle age may help.

Lovely bojo. Pure expression of red fruits, more
Strawberry and raspberry than cherry. Quite flrefined, crystalline expression. The acidity has softened, giving it a somewhat plush velvety mouthfeel, but still plenty of verve. Chalky finish. I may have preferred this slightly more a couple years ago, but it’s still an elegant singular expression of Morgon.

I was worried this may be over the hill given the hot vintage—but was pleasantly surprised. Vibrant, mature fruit with a rather strong/distinct cinnamon note. Just the faintest hint of a roasted quality. Quite fresh despite despite the ripeness of the vintage. Probably best to drink. Won’t fall off a cliff for some time.

Couldn’t think of a better American wine for July 4th. Exceptional young Napa cab. Have it a 3hr decant and it was killed quickly. Very concentrated, leaning towards black currant profile with some cool blue fruit highlights. Palate is silky, very polished with very fine tannins that only come out on the finish—and they are considerable but balanced and incredibly fine. Hints of charcoal on the finish. Certainly performs at the price level. Drink or hold.

Came across as very ripe tonight. Dark red fruit, maybe even an element of cola. Finishes with a nice gravel and chalk quality that pulls this together. Showed a bit too ripe for me, but don’t think this is a plush fabby Pinot —as it clearly not. Acidity is vibrant and fresh, vintage was just a bit much.

Followed over 2 nights. Wow this was structured! Much more open on night 2. Fruit profile is rather unique, as it seems quite dark but as a cool blue fruited note mixed in. Shows some flint on the nose. Really powerful tannins on the backend, somewhat drying without food. I think there’s enough fruit for the tannins here—still quite a young wine. Best to hold.

Well made but less concentrated than other recent years. Cherry fruit, hints of mint/eucalyptus. Very powerful tannins and acidity—but there’s sensual fruit there, it just likes to hide in the structure. Needs some time to meld together. Best to hold.

Got more subdued the more air it got. Dark fruited, plush, pretty shy nose. Tannins bulky but mild. Typical favor profile of black fruit, but of smoke, and mint. Some tabacco on the finish. Holds the finish well. Seamless just not as expressive as expected. Seems to be in early maturity.

High shoulder fill. Cork crumbled and small amount of seepage under the capsule, but seems well kept. Amazingly youthful. I would have guessed this was a mid ‘00’s wine. Vibrant dark color, no bricking. Elegant fruity nose, with black currants and eucalyptus and just a hint of petrol. Palate is plush, showing wonderful forward fruit—mostly black currant variety, bit of blackberry? Fine chunky tannins still present but mostly integrated. Strong finish. It’s not often that a ‘03 Montrose is eclipsed, but it was on this night.

Splash decanted and killed pretty quickly over a few hours. Lovely fruity elegance on the nose. Palate is powerful and concentrated. Strong cherry notes carry the palate. Bit of menthol adds complexity. Tannins really hit the mid to late palate, and are notable on the finish. While strong, have a soft nuanced texture. Very lengthy finish. While fruit forward still quite fresh.

Big wine, very fruity and concentrated. Red fruit hightliights with some darker fruit underneath. The tannins from the petite Syrah are welcome, giving the fruit a nice counterpoint. Acidity well judged. Just a hint of oak in there. Could use a year or so to settle down. Compared to last bottle, this was served in a more controlled temperature and space.

Cloudy appearance. Open from the moment the cork was pulled. Showed a bit of green and herbaceousness on the nose, and while “interesting” not sure I found it “good”. Dark cherry favors, even a hint of cola. Spice notes add depth. Long finish.
Typically I find the alpine bottles to be very pure and focused—didn’t get that impression on this bottle. Less impressed than my bottle last year.
