***If I was allowed to take 1 bottle with me for my last supper, I would probably take the 1990 (not the 89) Haut Brion. Very overlooked...This is ethereal and everything you could imagine and hope for from a First Class, First Growth wine. Its fully mature with a perfume of barnyard and loam and still packs a long, beautifully sweet finish. Drink or Hold...I think this is just fine.

This was unintentionally decanted just before serving (rather than several hours ahead) and initially came over as muted, extremely young, very fresh and showing red fruits and perhaps a little disappointing compared with the 2012 I've enjoyed recently. However As the evening progressed this wine found its feet, the nose transformed to show the intoxicating elixir of simply gorgoeus red fruits (think wild raspberries etc) but with deep concentration yet remaining fresh with fine tannins and well judged acidity. Most certainly not too soon to drink now and may well improve as not yet really into a tertiary stride. Despite being hard to pick out as a Pauillac this remained classical and very well balanced. My WOTN because of the lingering memory of the deeply concentrated delicious fruit.

Well, hello. Upon my first sip, this is what the wine appeared to be saying. The wine is dark. The nose is, well, restrained. Hints of dark fruit and other nuances, but by no means anything that that makes you sit up and take notice. Then that first sip. Blind me and I will tell you I am drinking a wine 1/3 its age. Rich, solid tannins that offer no hint of a 15 year old Pauillac. The wine offers up beautiful dark fruit, blackberry. Maybe a hint of raspberry. There is a small sense of earth, leather, and a couple others that I could not put my finger on. The finish was long and delicate. Overall, it's beautiful. And in 5 years it will be better. Very likely 10 years as well. This beauty will stand the test of time.

Stunning value. Definitely in its drinking window, held up well over two days, lots of acidity makes this very food friendly.

This is one of those heavenly wines that gives me goosebumps. You know this is seriously good wine from the moment you breathe in its aromas of cassis, deepest black fruits, black olives, and truffle. Very ripe, very concentrated fruit in the mouth and it length goes on for minutes. Fabulous now but will give for many years to come.

Somewhat muted on nose at first, but amazing on palate. Drank neck & neck with a 2001 Ch. Haut Brion. Many years ahead for this wine, no rush. (Aug. 14, Gates Lodge)

This wine is drinking very nicely now. I opened my last bottle of the 2000 Pichon. Mineral, earthy, soft tannins, low acidity, and strong backbone were what called out to me. I had about 6 of these bottles, which I had unfortunately opened much too early. Although they were good then, this 20 year-old is drinking great now. To me, this is ready to drink. Agree with armins.rusis@gmail.com and PHIL P.

Hits all the right marks for Bordeaux--a testament to the producer and the vintage. This has come into its own and hard to believe it won't maintain this level of drinking for many years to come.

Medium body bordering on weak. Not as expected but came around after 3 hrs in the decanter. Disappointing for the price here ~$25

  • ekfc63 commented:

5/11/20, 9:18 AM - I'd have to say La Gorce is one of the better options. Each time I got to the BC Liq the consultant susggests La Gorce. I've dabble in other similar priced offerings e.g. Jouanin, Mouton Cadet, Argadens, Pey La Tour, Clarendelle, etc, but recall no strong impression of quality. I guess decent claret isn't available at this price point.

Better second day andI agree with RGCM's 7/14/19 notes:Between medium and full bodied with a flavor profile showing black cherry and bright blackberry upfront, darker plum and black raspberry through the middle and nicely tart red raspberry and red berries towards the back. Tannins and acidity provided a very good backbone and were noticeably more present than what the 2003 showed. In general, I would say the 2004 showed better, more complex fruit, more depth (especially in the mid-body), better overall balance and better transitions. This 2004 has really come into its own and is drinking at a high level now. While this wine has the structure, fruit and balance to improve slightly with more time, I would drink these over the next four years or so.

Had during a meal with friends so the notes are more from memory and perception than anything

The thing that stood out was the complete balance of the wine. Nothing jumped out at you but i mean that in the most positive way. The tannins were smooth and refined. The dark fruit was clear and distinctive but so were the secondary flavors of earth, clove, cinnamon and an ever so slight bit of menthol.
The mouthfeel was rich and smooth. The finish went on for quite a while. The word that keeps crossing my mind is pretty. It was so easy to drink that the bottle was gone before we realized it.
I would have liked to have tasted this after it had been open for a while because I think it probably would have evolved given more time open. Will wait another couple of years before the next bottle.

I wish there was a “I really like it” button. This wine is really everything I was hoping to enjoy in this bottle. Elegantly muscled and rich. Tons of time for this to lie down. Why not just decant a bottle and enjoy with someone you love. Or Bogart the whole bottle yourself. If you’re reading this note, you’re probably holding a few bottles. Break one out!

A marvelous wine - big, brash and assertive. And yet, refined and seductive and completely sexy. Beautiful nose of cassis, new leather and graphite. A bit of alcohol heat and some sweetness. The flavors are a mouthful - wow. Bold black fruit - blackberries and cassis, mint, graphite. Sweet, incredibly fine tannins that are drying only on the finish. Drinks with a higher alcohol feel though that just seems to be a rough edge at this point. Lengthy, sexy finish. I wish that I could, today, taste this wine as what it will be in 20 years. Just entering drinking window - and it drank beautifully alongside filet with green peppercorn sauce. Truly beautiful wine.

Bright crimson in color. 13% ABV. Soft aromas of red fruits, leather, cigar box and plums. Full bodied with exceptional balance. Fresh, rich and super silky. Creme de cassis, cherries, tobacco and earth on the palate. The finish is exceptionally long and plush. Absolutely stunning Bordeaux that is a great reflection of the opulent 2000 vintage. Traditionally a long lived wine, this version of Grand Puy-Lacoste should cruise to 25 years of age. Yours truly is pleased to have more bottles in the cellar.

Tasted at dinner & up against Sassicaia 2004, the wine came across as dense, very concentrated and youthful (sipped after approx 2,5h decant). Was impressed by the power, Integrated tannins and long finish, but coupled with the ripe fruit it got a bit overwhelming to my taste. Paired really great with beef burgers though. Lots of potential left I would say. Would suggest drinking it from 2020. 92-94p
