During a wine dinner, tasted blind. Nose of torrefaction, red and dark fruit with a touch of oak. Very new world. On the palate this is ripe, soft and quite dense. Acidity is good enough to support the riper style. I did not guess Medoc here but now that I see the bottle it makes sense. The 2009 red/brown aroma spectrum is really in the foreground here. A modern expression of this otherwise more classic wine.

This was a huge disappointment. Decanted for 4 hours. Perfumed nose of violets and rose petals. The palate was short devoid of fruit. Opened at a wine party we threw and Nobody liked it.

Decanted for 2.5 hours which is about perfect. Abundant fruit, incredible nose with hints of black cherries, raspberries, parchment, cassis, carob, and grass. Incredible intensity and a 60-75 second finish with excellent integration and grace. Could use a couple more years but drink for a hedonistic experience!

Mature nose. Not my favourite style and a worryingly green streak throughout. Searing tannins. I don't see this improving.

Saw some activity on this recently, so I decided to kick the tires a bit. My first impression is that this will be a stunner when it is ready. A shame that I'll be pushing up daisies at that time, but this wine is very enjoyable even at this young age. Laser like nose with incredible dynamic aromas. Initial notes of key lime pie and honeyed botrytis give way to banana liqueur, wet stones, lemon, and some very faint beeswax. The palate is very similar in that it does not overwhelm you with power, but takes you captive with its razor precision. This Rieussec left me with complete high regard for its current enjoyable consumption and absolutely brilliant future. 97+ Pts

5/29/13, 7:07 AM - you read too much robert parker. keep it simple a bit.

Modern yuckiness; this combines red fruit and eucalyptus oil and finishes with a hint of ashtray. The eucalyptus oil stays on the lips for quite a while after the sip.

decanted over 30 min. the wine had a weird burning sensation on tongue. it felt a lot like cheap wines that go thru wood chips instead of proper oal barrels. very disappointed, this is not ok for a gran cru classe bordeaux. not buying this again and don't recommend.

4/23/13, 10:52 PM - 70 points is quite generous for a corked / TCA tainted wine.

4/24/13, 6:29 PM - The 2003 Leo Poyferre is a stunning wine. You must have had a bad bottle.
