Gloriously balanced and seductive. A less ripe year so all is in check. Iron, meaty red fruit, a woody herb undertow and huge length and complexity. Stunning

12/4/19, 10:45 PM - I think they’ll be great for a long while yet, but for me this has the right balance of mature notes and good fruit to drink right now. If you like really old CNdP then hold, but if you have more than one bottle I’d certainly check in now

The nose showed volatile acidity and some oxidation. This was beautiful but short of profound. Smooth, pure, light, fine grip. Lightly intense. Like the example had in 2012, nowhere near the best bottle of this that I have had, which would score about 99 or so.

Not pre-mox'ed! Great news... Actually very good

7/17/15, 8:58 PM - Prem-ox is brutal. Between that & cork taint white burg is like Russian roulette. I've taken to drinking even the best grand cru's young.

  • Pacherant commented:

7/17/15, 9:02 PM - As for producers without pox... Ramonet are great wines but have a poor record for premox in my experience. I've never had premoxed Coche or raveneau. Leflaive have got much worse in recent years. Don cornwell's site is the definitive place- good to check the community's experience

7/17/15, 10:26 PM - The wiki site is the one... I think there's probably less incidence of the pox in at aubins and the less grand burg appellations because people drink them younger. It seems pretty much across the board to me. Done years worse than others. Shameful how little the producers admit it and let consumers take the hit.

Very youthful. Bright and sharp. Must have been topped off
  • Pacherant commented:

4/20/15, 8:17 AM - Thanks Steve. It tasted very young and fresh... Unlike other bottles I've had from the 80's and 70's ( though they were in great shape too). Perhaps it is just an incredibly well preserved wine... In which case it's probably worth waiting another decade!

Fully mature. Slightly sour finish. Don't hold longer but classy structure

4/5/15, 6:07 PM - I think it was well stored. Cork seemed decent. I'd be surprised if you opened yours and felt you'd done so too early. The only champagnes I've found that carry that kind of age and still taste vital are Dom, krug etc

Smelt ok at first blush but limpid and dull on the palate. after a minute in glass, clearly premixed. Bloody annoying given what this wine should have been.
  • Pacherant commented:

11/5/14, 9:07 AM - The color was a touch off, but the palate was pretty shot. I tasted with a very experienced white burg drinker and we both thought it was oxidation

  • Pacherant commented:

11/5/14, 10:09 PM - Agreed. I had a great Bienvenues Batard from 07 though... I have a few more of the chevalier, so I won't give up just yet

Medium bodied delicate rose and red fruit. Lacks some substance and complexity but nice fruit
  • Pacherant commented:

2/14/14, 11:16 AM - I popped and poured, which probably wasn't ideal for such a young wine. It would have been interesting to try a lot of air with this, though I didn't get the sense there was a great deal of substance waiting to unfurl
