Quite nice Riesling, especially when taking into account that I am not the biggest Riesling fan.
Very fruity nose, much sweeter than expected. Think white melon and delicate rose smell. Similar in taste, starting with sweet fruits and flowers, more like a chardonnay. This is gripped within Riesling typical sourness, encompassing the lively fruitiness. The finish is somewhat buttery, but rather dull.
All in all, the basic Von Buhl Deidesheimer Riesling left a better impression.

Very dense garnet color, so dense it is almost turning to black. Aroma of red berries, tart cherry, blackcurrant, then earth tones and peppermint, in the background something like fresh cut fir wood. A taste again with lots of red berries, but exceptionally mouthful; the wine develops tastes all around the tongue, velvety, extremely balanced fruitiness and freshness, opening a very long and pleasant finish with mineral hints, saltiness. Nice!

1st evening: very sweet nose with hints of raisins and herbs, thymian, some wood and vanilla. Contrasting on the palate with a very bordeaux style taste with lots of red fruits and fine tannins. Very nice and very long but delicate vanilla finish.
2nd evening: more balance between nose and taste. Still styled like a bordeaux but now it starts with some sweetness, again with raisins, lots of cherries and then moving to a more tannin dictated mouth feel and taste.
Very nice!

Perfect now! Very juicy with lots of red berries but also saline hints showing the origin of this wine. Very good balance makes this an easy drink. Went well solo as with crostini.

Bordeaux style Ribera del Duoro. Quite round with lots of red berries and only scents of oak. Similar experience on the palate, with the expected vehemence of olive shaped tannins only appearing in the background.

Very different compared to the 2009 vintage. Wine lacks a clear image. Taste of licorace and rosemary. Dark red fruits in the background.
Could benefit from a proper food pairing. Roast hare or stew with linguini.

Cherry bomb! This wine shows a delicate balance between finely structured acidity and juicy cherry elements. The juiciness is supported by vanilla and red currant tones. This lovely picture comes in a framework of earthy elements. Just lovely!

Some red fruits swimming in a medium acidic fluid. No distinct flavours, more like a blend of various leftovers, resulting in an odd balance. Not recommended.

A real treat! Fat nose, lots of berries and some earthy tones. The taste is fruitiness all the way, with a quite high but very pleasant acidity and a very long and equally pleasant finish. This was a real cellar surprise, such a pity this was the last bottle. Good for drinking now, but I guess that it a good option to leave it in the cellar for another year or two. Fits well with cheese and vegetables.

Bright yellow. Delicate nose with fruits and flowers. Very clear and balanced taste, as delicate as the aroma. Citrus, peaches, medium acidity, slight buttery elements.

This wine is definitely o u t s t a n d i n g ! I drank the bottle almost two weeks ago, but I can still clearly remember the fine play between minerality (like sucking on a stone), fruitiness (peaches and gooseberries) and acidity. A job very well done by Uli Metzger and a clear reason to pay this winemaker another visit.
By the way: For me this wine is much better than the 2012 Grand Reserve, the wine rated as one of the top ten white wines of Germany for this vintage, a wine I enjoyed earlier this year.

This is unlike a Bordeaux. It has a natural sweetness and nose and taste of ripe cherries. Blindly tasted, I would place it in Piemont.

Bright yellow color. Aroma: Citrus, hints of butter. Flavour: Green apples, high in acid and again some buttery elements, like a Californian Chardonnay.
All in all not at all what I expected. This wine has very little of the Chardonnay I have had before. No aroma jumping out of the glass, none of the roundness in the taste, none of the sweetness of exotic fruits. Instead, it offers narrow clearity, like a riesling.
I never intended to buy this wine. It came to me as alternative for a Leth Chardonnay Floss, which was out of stock. For me no two Chardonnays could be more opposed to each other. The Leth round, warm, kind to nose and tong, a real treat. The Metzger straightforward and to me somewhat provocative.

Bright yellow in color. Typical Sauvignon in the nose. On the palate lots of almost ripe white grapes, giving high acidity. Lots of minerals, but not like stones or salt or earth. Quite difficult to grasp whilst covered in the these green white grapes and green apples. Partners excellent with strong yellow cheese.

Very good Italian wine with a delicate balance between sweetness and dryness. Lots of fruity and floral tones. Limited complexity, nice medium long finish. Good for drinking now but would also allow some more years of cellaring.

Untypical southern Chardonnay. Lacking buttery and melon/peach like elements. Instead high acid and shallow fruit.

Yes I like it! Put your nose in the glass, close your eyes, inhale. Open your eyes and find yourself in France, on a freshly cut meadow, with a mild sun warming your back. Take a sip and enjoy the ripe and juicy peaches and a salty swirl on your tongue. Feel the fruitiness fade into a minerality as you close your eyes and feel grateful for experiencing such kind of joy.

Second tasting note. This bottle is much better. Very nice Bordeaux. Developed high acidity between first and second night, showing that this wine is definitely past it's drinking window. So open them bottles and drink fast. Rating for second tasting at 88.

Wow for an astonishing dark red in the glass. Red fruits trying to jump out. Delicious blueberries like one of these marvellous blueberry cupcakes.. yummy.. Some mint, some vanilla, maybe even some pine.. or is that our Christmas tree..
On the tongue again blueberry cake in a delicate sweetness, still some edgy tannins, some dried fruits, lots of dry oak.
Medium long finish, seductive, have some more.. I know you want me..

Perfect burgundy style red wine. Rather lucent ruby in the glass. Perfect nose with strong earthy tones. On the palate the earthy aspect returns and is greatly supported by vivid pomegranates and gooseberries. On the rather long finish the earthy aspect dominates. Lovely!

I agree with Franss: Not bad, bit square, coarse acidity in the finish.

This wine needs a companion (porcini risotto?).

This is close to perfection!

Yes, it is a tad sweet. But this being the only comment, I can highly recommend this wine.

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like cherry, blackberry and plum. It tastes like cherry, blackberry and vanilla. The body is medium. The wine has oily texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

Lots of red fruits, lots of sweet black cherries, some black currants and some spices on the nose. On the palate a solid mineral base with earthy tones and again lots of red berries. The black currant is predominant, giving nice acidity, and are rounded out by sweet cherries. The tannins are velvety but not fully integrated, leaving a bit sharpness. Nice. Happy to have some more.

The wine looks light gold colored, with fast legs and no sediment in the bottle. It smells like cantaloupe and cookie dough with citrus fruits, apples and some minerality in the background. It tastes very fruity, with lemon and orange and juicy green apples as main elements, developing into nice mineral tones. The body is light to medium, making it a good wine to drink solo on a sunny evening. The wine finishes medium. Most compelling element is the balance between sweetness and acidity. Good PQR. I recommend this wine.

I am surprised. When pouring in, the yellow gold color immediately catches the eye. Given the age, I thought this was not going to be enjoyable anymore. The first nose though gives another opinion. I smell honey and some floral and light vegetal notes. I am a bit nervous about tasting. Suprisingly, the wine is stilll very enjoyable. Both honey and vegetal notes return. The vegetal aspect leans into the direction of asparagus. This Chardonnay holds a nice balance between sweetness and acidity. A truly am surprised. Firstly, I did not expect anything good coming out of the bottle. Secondly, I did not expect something so nicely balanced. The body is medium to full (+), the texture is smooth. The wine finishes medium (+). The wine has medium acidity (+). Obviously Madame Juillot was not lying, when she told us that their white wines are very capable of cellaring. Such a pity I did not get more. Well done!

This garnet colored wine has moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like fur, decaying oak, black currant, with hints of cherry and raisin. With medium acidity, it tastes like black currant, oak and black olive. The acidity is partly balanced by a sweetness that reminds me of cherries. The body is medium, as is the enjoyable finish. The texture has both juicy any silky aspects.

Enjoyed with friends: Two bottles Riesling Sekt, one bottle Aurea Sekt, one bottle of Moet Chandon Brut and one Veuve Monsigny (low end Champagne) and a in direct comparison.
I stick to my previous rating of 93 for this Riesling Sekt. Compared directly, the Riesling Sekt definitely has more pleasant freshness to it compared to the other sparklings. Agreed, the Moet has the better bubbles, as they are finer and dissolve nicer on the tongue. But the taste of a Riesling Sekt... WOW! Whilst not being a Riesling fan, in this form the best of the grape is brought up. The delicate aromas, the acidity, the freshness all combine better with the nose and the palate of a white sparkling wine. Will buy again.

Decanted this ruby colored wine for half an hour. On the nose it has lots of ripe dark red berries and a hint of licorice. On the palate, this image is reproduced with ripe berries evolving into a medium and pleasant finish heavy with licorice. It has low acidity and is low in tannins.

It smells like peach and lemon with some floral notes. It tastes like peach and pineapple. The body is light/medium, the texture is juicy. The wine finishes medium as the peaches develop in light mineral tones. The wine has medium acidity.

This is not a bad wine, the taste just does not meet the price tag of >13 EUR.

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is heavy sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant and sandalwood with some fig and molten butter in the background. It tastes incredibly fruity with black currant. The body is medium. The wine has juicy texture and finishes long. It has medium acidity.
This 2000 vintage is so much different than the 1999 vintage. The 1999 is flat but balanced and with a hint of sweetness like a port wine. It has a very strong microbiological nose and taste. The 2000 instead is incredibly fruity and with the fruit a little of the smoothness is lost. Both equal not in taste but in pleasantness of in their finish. In both cases it is long and enjoyable. Bottom line I greatly prefer the 2000 vintage over the 1999.

The wine looks light gold colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like apricot with a hint of cantaloupe.
It tastes like apple, apricot with some of the cantaloupe sweetness and some black pepper in the finish. The body is light. The wine has a narrow texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity.
What marvels most, is the balance in the nose, in the mouth and in the finish. It smells friendly and fruity, it tastes fruity without being acid or sweet, it finishes with easiness and without stinging, bullying, annoyance. Lovely.

Riesling based sparkling: This is what riesling is made for! I tend to dislike most rieslings for its extreme acidic taste. When turned into a sparkling wine, all opportunities of this grape are put to use. It is no longer acidic, instead it is lively and full of body.
I admit that I am not an expert on wine, let alone sparkling wines. I though keep returning to Simon and Bürkle, as this riesling tops all other sparkling wines I have had.
