4/25/24, 2:10 PM - I'm going to have to pull one of these soon. Thanks for the update!
4/26/24, 4:14 AM - I remember my last experience with 09 being a little monolithic or flat with all the aged fruit needing some continued aging to gain complexity in this phase. I appreciate the tip and will follow your advice!
4/25/24, 9:34 AM - Loved the expression of CF on the 19's. Very approachable vintage early which doesn't tend to be the case the predominate CS fruit based wines. Very compelling!
4/25/24, 4:23 AM - Thanks for the early note on this wine. There is a good amount of 21's floating around the market now as I believe collectors are a bit hesitant to back up the truck for this vintage.
4/18/24, 1:44 PM - Historically you had to buy the red to get the opportunity to have the white. Plus the whites need significant age... like 25+ years and served with heavy creamy foods. This is what I've been told.
4/22/24, 3:46 AM - I have yet to have that moment with the white as well. Until then....
4/15/24, 1:22 PM - When do you find the time to write these notes when your busy holding blinds for Marv & Bryan? lol.... Great notes as always!
4/17/24, 10:57 AM - Like you, I've lost most of my desire to buy Napa cabs as a good number of them all taste the same and just kill my palate in their youth. There is only a handful of winemakers that have the liberty to make a wine that will age well. I believe Nigel is one of them. Especially in the KE portfolio. Now, will they age as well as some of those Araujo's I'm enjoy right now from the 90's with 13 abv... only time will tell but I'm very confident we'll be rewarded in the 10-20+ range.
4/17/24, 11:10 AM - If Kodo or Kaannos are anything like the masterpiece that Francoise made from Vine Hill Ranch in 2021, we're in for a real treat. Based on Csimm's notes I'd say there is a chance.
4/17/24, 3:28 PM - Aphex sounds like a beastly wine that will need three decades to come into itself. Glad I bought some large format to pass on to my great grandchildren!
4/18/24, 4:37 AM - I'm sure there is an early window for some of these wines and then we might expect them to shut down thereafter? Either way I committed Aphex and Kodo with never have tasting them first. Any speculation for when La Vol will be back in the portfolio?
4/19/24, 5:08 AM - That makes sense. I'm a big fan of La Vol and look forward to the next chapter.
4/19/24, 4:37 AM - Smoke taint is very obvious for those that can sense it and evidently not everyone can is what I'm told. I'm very sensitive to smoke and one of my favorites left me feeling like I had smoked a cigarette. Good for you sending it back...
3/22/24, 1:36 PM - No harm in doing so as I'm sure we'll be reloading...
3/23/24, 10:18 AM - So far I've been very impressed with the few 21's that I've tried. The tannins have been off the charts.
4/17/24, 3:21 PM - Sdr69. You're very kind to let me know you found my note useful. I'm sure Bruce would happily sell you another case or two if you reach out. Let me know if you'd like me to facilitate in anyway.
4/15/24, 1:27 PM - 2021 VHR is a real gem as well. Might be the best to date via Francoise. Sounds like Nigel pulled it off with one block! Very impressive.
4/14/24, 5:42 PM - One of the best Fuego's to date.
4/14/24, 6:18 PM - I opened a 14 Caldera tonight. Smelled like gun oil and flint upon opening. I just love that smell.
4/15/24, 7:50 AM - It's a characteristic of mouvedre that becomes more pronounced with age. Like you, I enjoy the meaty notes as well.
4/15/24, 9:32 AM - Know they self!
4/14/24, 4:20 AM - Wonderful note. Trying to figure out which VHR to pull from the cellar and 15 is in consideration with your experience.
4/14/24, 3:46 AM - The structure is there to go the distance. It's a very enjoyable wine right form the center of Oakville next to some of our favorites. And, very reasonably priced.
4/11/24, 6:46 PM - I've had a decent amount of bottle variation from B&H. Too much to be honest and I'm a super fan of VHR.
4/10/24, 5:28 AM - Once you get around to trying 2021 I'll be very curious to see what you think. Great note on 19!
4/7/24, 7:08 PM - I'd love to make the trip to Napa just to drink a bottle with Bruce. Might be the best VHR to date. Great note!
4/7/24, 8:39 AM - Thanks for the comment J Smallwood, which reminds me I need to update this to clarify this is my first St. Joe from Gonon. I've had the Iles Feray 2016 at Pappas Steakhouse and it was very good value play on the menu. Now, I don't have any in the cellar so I'll seek them out and report back. I appreciate the tip! I'm all about find value in a region that is getting pricey.
4/7/24, 6:41 AM - One of my favorites. I'm going to have to check in soon.
2/25/24, 7:50 AM - That's a damn good price! Nice score!
3/26/24, 9:01 AM - Great question Mark. If I was to do it all over again PNP and check in. If I felt like it needed more air maybe I would decant or recork with little air and come back 12 hours later. If I had to guess the right approach, double decant with 4 hours advance notice might be enough for the first bottle.
4/1/24, 6:56 PM - Wonderful! I'm glad I didn't build this wine up for you to be disappointed. What a score, Mark!
4/2/24, 3:33 AM - I've got one bottle left in the cellar but will be on the look out for more now.
3/28/24, 4:19 PM - Great score! This must have been one the of early vintages of Blankiet?
4/1/24, 7:01 PM - Great to know. I really like Blankiet and I've noticed their wine is pretty discounted on secondary market compared to direct. I've said it a million times, 2009 Rive Driote was my gateway drug into the world of wine.
3/24/24, 6:38 AM - Jaime, knowing the wines that you like I would sit on your stash and wait for some resolve.
3/24/24, 6:09 AM - In another 6 years it will be in a better spot for opening. I'm sure of this. We're coming up on our 20th this year. 2005 vintage provides some great options!
3/22/24, 7:39 AM - boillatm, considering the proximity to Eisele vineyard I would think about the same as some of the more recent vintages that Nigel was involved in. 2008-13 I believe. I'm sure Francoise had some influence on style, but this is Napa and the abv is higher so my guess is the sweet spot will be in the 10-25 year range. The verdict is out as 2016 is the oldest KE effort so it's an educated guess. You hold a special bottle of wine so I don't think I'd kill it if I only had one in hand. As you might already know this vineyard was replanted so there is only two vintages of this wine for a while.
3/22/24, 1:38 PM - I think around 2026/27 might be the first harvest produced from this replanted vineyard. A total guess....
3/22/24, 7:28 AM - It's a lovely bottle of Champagne!
3/9/24, 11:58 AM - Great notes on what sounds like a nice bottle of wine Mark.
5/9/22, 9:14 AM - Thanks AG! I've had this wine a few times now. The first time was at the Abreu cave with Brad back in Oct 2020. It showed incredible well. Much better than the two bottles I bought from BMW that could have some bottle storage variation. Either way one of my favorites. Glad you enjoyed it!
7/27/22, 11:12 PM - Must have Auto corrected. BWG is Benchmark Wine Group.
7/29/22, 6:00 AM - Not in my cellar but BWG has a good amount in stock. https://www.benchmarkwine.com/products/23947-abreu-cabernet-sauvignon-cappella-2009
7/31/22, 5:47 AM - I've bought 3 from BWG and it's been mixed results and I'm assuming that's due to storage before than bought them. I love Cappella when you catch it at the right time.
7/31/22, 5:36 PM - You're most welcome GP!
3/8/24, 4:38 AM - Maybe from the same lot. Could have been a storage issue that someone sold off.
3/6/24, 5:15 AM - I absolutely love the TN's of Hermitage. I've been blown away by a few Jaboulet's and I'm currently hunting down some 2015's for the cellar.
2/29/24, 9:02 AM - Thanks for the update on this vintage Jeff. Any chance you tasted or have any insight into 2021?
3/2/24, 5:18 AM - In general, 2021 Rhone seems like a tough vintage but then again it's Chave. Picking up some is never a bad idea.
2/28/24, 5:35 AM - In the early going this wine was firing after release but my last bottle was a bit flat. Not sure if a long decant would have help or if bottle/barrel variation is in play.
11/6/23, 1:21 PM - I was checking this morning to see if notes on this tasting had posted yet. I'm assuming you had to create the new profile for this wine on CT.. the only thing missing is the proper name other than ecotone. I'm guessing Shae is still withholding that information? I'm sure it will be unique like the rest of the portfolio. Thanks for sharing these notes. What a treat!
11/6/23, 1:47 PM - I've heard about this cyber bullying trend. I just didn't think I'd experience it on Cellar Tracker.
11/6/23, 2:04 PM - I'm not sure which picture you claim to be mine.. lol
11/7/23, 6:26 PM - I claim the photo with Sedona in the backdrop. That one is definitely mine!
2/28/24, 5:27 AM - You need to get your notes up! Where else did you taste while in Napa?
2/27/24, 3:43 AM - B, I'm not going to be of much help when it comes to Southern Rhone. I can ask around if you like? I believe AGElvis just recently visited. Hope all is well my man!
2/26/24, 9:17 AM - Great note Acyso. I'm starting to pick up my usual offerings on this wine and trying to figure out how deep I want to go. Based on your notes this sounds similar to 14? Is that a fair take?
5/5/22, 10:26 AM - IRBDW, Thanks for the response. 16 is an interesting bottling and is a must have for the long haul. With that I hold out hope it will return to the magic it showed in 18 with a mature twist. Nothing but notes of full slumber on CT. 13 on the other hand is climbing in value after recent notes by AG. I remember it being very introverted and backwards. The popularity of this vineyard is on the rise and KE took fruit in 2021. Lots of press equals higher demand. Just be glad you jumped in when you did!
2/22/24, 4:44 AM - Nice score Mark! You'll have to let me know how they're drinking...Btw, around what price are these trading for at auction?
2/22/24, 6:11 AM - Nice score!
2/22/24, 5:33 AM - 2012 just continues to be a great vintage for a lot of wines. Especially right now.
2/22/24, 5:29 AM - This is my crowd pleasing house champagne that I always keep around for guest. The mags are always fun to pull out as well.
2/21/24, 5:29 AM - 19 Anjea was the bottle I was told to pull last summer and I scored it the same. Very similar experience so nothing has changed over the last 8 months.
2/21/24, 4:40 AM - 2012 was the first vintage I tasted when visiting Vine Hill Ranch for the first time. It's always been a beautifully structured vintage. I've purchased every bottle that was reasonably priced along the way. I think this vintage has a lot of life left. Thanks for the update!
2/21/24, 4:21 AM - Yeah, I need to figure out when and where to drink the 2010. Most likely on vacation somewhere special.. 2021 Rhone's are starting to roll in. I'm waiting on pricing and allocations. Not sure that I'll go as big considering the challenges of the vintage. Oh, I'll get some notes on 2010 VCC up soon. It was much better when not in the Rhone lineup during the follow up approach over the next few days.
2/18/24, 6:29 AM - I think an 8 hour decant was too much. Madrona from the 90’s needs to be followed from PNP. They can evolve quickly and become flabby with too much oxygen.
2/18/24, 6:58 AM - 3 Hours makes more sense! I over decanted a 94 & 95 and I missed out on the initial evolution. It hard to gauge these things. I PNP a 97 Araujo and it felt like it could have used 3+ hours. Maybe even more...
2/17/24, 6:08 AM - That was very evident with this bottle. Thanks again for suggesting these 375's to find out!
2/17/24, 6:07 AM - Thanks for the comments! The intention of buying some small format was to try these early just to get a sense of the profile of fruit etc... I've been told when Cos d'Estrournel is firing it's an ah ha wine. I believe this might have been my first time trying this Chateau.
2/16/24, 8:01 AM - I love these a cellar to room temp. I think is served to cooled then you miss out on the beauty of this wine.
2/15/24, 4:45 AM - The snow was great with fresh powder on the bumps. I did find some Cedric Bouchard sitting on the shelf of a retail store and it was fairly priced. What they had I bought.
9/15/23, 3:54 AM - I purchased 11 & 17 as well. All very unique and well representive of the vintage.
2/13/24, 9:00 AM - @billving, I would love to hear what you think once you open one. Happy 2021 release day!
2/8/24, 12:55 PM - A young Chave that's ready! I'll have to pull one of these based on your experience.
2/9/24, 3:37 AM - I bought a good number of them at release and haven't touched them so it's time to check in.
2/9/24, 3:35 AM - I've had 04 several times now and it's elegant. Nothing is overdone.
2/9/24, 3:31 AM - It is or was my favorite vintage but 12 & 14 are drinking so well right now. I'm thinking it's just a phase or off bottle.
2/5/24, 9:09 AM - I'm super excited to try another Oakville wine in the hands of Nigel & Shae. Thanks for posting the experience!
2/4/24, 6:04 PM - Pretty cool to be the first! Thanks for sharing the experience.
1/21/24, 2:33 PM - Thanks for the informative review on a grape I just discovered and love like you. Have you had these wines with any significant age?
1/28/24, 7:11 AM - Thanks for the reply! I plan of cellaring a few of these old vines to see what happens with some bottle age.
1/22/24, 9:37 AM - I've enjoyed the few I've had as they're getting really hard to source. Hope all is well in S.A.!
1/22/24, 4:18 AM - I just purchased a nice stash of 08, 12 & 13. Assuming these will be on the younger side but still really good. Hope all is well!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
