Decanted over cocktails. This is aging beautifully with a sturdy bedrock of tannins, savory blackcurrant, slate, and full body. Feels like there is more evolution in store but very good now.

2/6/22, 12:45 AM - Thanks for the review. After pulling the cork on my first one in 2016, I will be opening my second and last bottle tomorrow to celebrate my buddy's birthday. Hope the wine has become more rounded. I really liked the stuffings in the first one, which had flavors that had yet to integrate

3/16/22, 5:46 AM - A belated tasting note. The wine showed all the positive attributes mentioned in the tasting notes. However, I regret not having decanted the wine before bringing it out as there was a lot of sediment and it promoted a slight bitterness and animal character, the latter not clicking with the wine too well. Still, a very memorable wine and my buddies absolutely loved it.

Note to self: decant aged napa wine.

2/22/22, 3:27 AM - Dear watcheslover, hope you are well. I am about to pull the trigger on some leroux malconsorts magnums. Can I ask you if the full name for the wine you tasted was ' Benjamin Leroux Au Dessus VR Malconsorts'? It's USD700 per bottle and expensive but I figure, since I've already bot bruno clair CSJ (not tasted yet), arnoux lachaux les chaumes (beguiling, charming wine), clos des papes (excellent with decant), I can't go wrong with buying either the leroux CSD or the malconsorts haha.

I continue to be disappointed in California Cabernet overall now that I have discovered burgundy. This is a well made wine but is so heavy on alcohol and feels cloying, overpowering and too alcoholic for my palette. I will look to sell the remaining bottles and magnums I have of this.

Sorry to be a little proud of myself, but I can't resist putting you below the comments of the best critics of the great wines of the Rhône. Already in sample, I had sensed the exceptional quality of this wine. I just bought a few bottles before the price exploded.

99/100 B&D: "Absolutely grandiose. There are no words to describe the obviousness of its harmony. Between its almost perfect creaminess, the strength of its fruit, the excellence of its velvety tannin, everything is perfectly in place. Ten years of custody, it could bring us a few tears. What an emotion. Thrill guaranteed! "

98/100 RVF: "The 2019 red is certainly one of the finest in this vintage for the appellation. The wine presents rare grace and finesse over a sunny and high-grade year, and we can only salute the management of the texture and its overall harmony. "

98/100 Decanter: "Lively and floral nose. The tannins are extremely fine, almost imperceptible, but very present, giving the wine a solid base for a long aging. It is perfectly balanced, long and deep. Rich but luminous, very complete , pure and without excess. "
  • Burgundio commented:

1/3/22, 10:31 PM - Bot a few bottles of the 2019 rouge and also the 2020 blanc. Grenache dominant and powerful red CDP. The white was rich but not in a heavy way, and posessed the right acid to counter any sweetness. Both were exceptional after long decants. Great recommendation on the red. Cheers.

12/3/21, 5:36 AM - Took your advice and bought some Bruno clair CSJ 18. After your prescient calls on Arnoux Lachaux les chaumes 18 and other AL wines, I'm a believer

  • Burgundio commented:

12/3/21, 2:19 PM - Appreciate your comments. I am a fan of great tasting wine (not investments) and buy 1~3 bottles of wines I like...my favorite was the casanova di neri Tenuta Nuova 2010. I will also look out for the clos des papes. Have a great year end~

Incredible, I just saw that Jasper Morris gave his best Burgundy score of 2019 to these Reignots, even ahead of Romanée Conti !!! Finally someone who recognizes the true genius of this winegrower. And more, I am very proud of my palate. If I had a bottle, I would uncork it to celebrate.
Buy everything, even villages, before prices explode

12/2/21, 4:17 AM - I bought a few bottles of Arnoux Lachaux 2018s based solely on Watcheslover's earlier tasting notes. I would not be able to afford those bottles today. Muchos gracias

God damn this is a beautiful wine. I haven’t heard great things about this estate in the past, but with this vintage’s bottling getting great reviews (97 from Suckling?) I thought I’d search out a bargain. Totally delivers for the price point, with a superbly balanced profile and ripling tannins. Tobacco, a little smoke, surprisingly ripe and intense fruit. Wonderfully refined finish that was easily the most haunting aspect of this wine - echoing on for what seems like an eternity.

A great Margaux sleeper and easily worth twice the price. Buy and hoard this!
  • Burgundio commented:

11/17/19, 1:46 AM - Completely agree. This is just coming around and is a 94+ wine imo. The 16s are still in a funny phase but should be ok in a years' time, I hope. Cheers.

At the moment it tastes like a decent 3rd growth bordeaux wine in a not-so-good year which costs $60~80. Also with pronounced mocha colours. If only the alcohol would blow away more quickly...

For the price, though, it is excellent.

Edit: after 2h in the glass, the alcohol has subsided and the wine has become quite enjoyable. Final score is 91.
  • Burgundio commented:

10/3/17, 1:15 AM - A long decant may suffice. FYI, some reviewers below have mentioned this wine may not age that well. I found mine enjoyable after 2h.

One of my favorite whites, with the 2011 showing really good balance, nice complexity, decent length and no rough edges.

8/7/16, 12:15 AM - I'm a wine tenderfoot compared to most fellow CTers...so my comments might not help but having tried the 09, 11 SHL blancs and the 08 domaine chevalier blanc recently, personally I preferred the 11 SHL over the others, which were quite nice as well. Hope you like it too!
