7/20/19, 3:16 PM - On my palate 2011 is not a long term vintage in barolo. You are probably right that this cappellano beauty will last for quite some years, but I like it now - as well as almost any other barolo 2011 has been splendid. A warm july and august gave a lot of ripe and sweet fruit, and I see no reason not to drink some of it early. I am no always looking for the secondary notes and expressions that comes with age. A younger model can do the job very well if you let her. To me 2011 is much better now than any other vintage > 2005.Everybody at my dinner tabel that day had nothing but a worldclass experience with this wine. And that is what drinking wine is all about - not dates and figures. Travesty or not - I couldn´t care less. And one thing is for sure - that wine did not live longer than me. And why the heck should I aim for that?
7/20/19, 10:55 PM - I have every idea of what these wines are capable of! I do no present myself as anything but a wine lover. The rest is your words, not mine. Why don´t you spend your time one something a bit more constructive than judging people you don´t know. You have no idea about who I am and what my background is. Neither do you know about my Barolo background and how many wines I drink. I have been travelling in the Barolo area for 25 years with more than 30 visits. I was there 6 weeks ago tasting +100 wines. A lot of them more than 20 years, some of them more than 40 years old. I don´t post notes on wines that are nothing but show offs and impossible to find. I post when I have time, when there is a chance for people to find the wine and finally when I feel for it. When I was there last sommer, I had a private dinnner with the The vineyard manager from one of biggest Barolo wineries, that I have known for many years, and he served me a wine (blindtasting) with the following introduction: This is the best Barolo I have tasted in a couple of years. It was a Bartolo Mascarello 2013! I am sure he did not feel it as a crime to drink it young. My personal fav that evening was a 1996 Cappellano Barolo Piè Franco, but how many people can afford and find a wine like that? Good luck with drinking your wines when they are +50 years, I´ll drink a lot of mine before - and I´ll keep posting notes on some of the younger ones that can be reached by normal people out there. If you don´t like my tasting notes, leave em, and go drink your old wines instead.“completely at odds with everyone with extensive experience with Nebbiolo.” Ha ha ha. Do I sense god the almighty here? Wauw, welcome to CT. Sorry to realize that you are a supercilious moron.
3/6/24, 10:48 PM - Yes, I have passed away and am now sitting in heaven's wine bar, drinking mature Bartolo Mascarello 2016 with the Lord Himself, who, by the way, turned out not to be you at all. I hope I'm not destroying your illusory self-image with that revelation. If it makes you sad, just ask your doctor to significantly increase your medication, and you'll surely be happy again.Who knows? Maybe one day you'll have an experience that allows you to somewhat join in when the experts talk about wine?Salute, and big thanks for your always unconditional and devoted support and endorsement. Glad you like my Tasting notes.
8/26/19, 3:46 AM - It is a lovely wine! I still have 5 more bottles in the cellar and will try to keep my hands away for at least 2 more years. Your magnums will live for a long time and probably peak around 2024-25. Great buy.
3/9/19, 1:05 PM - I believe somthing is wrong. I have tasted the 2013 4 times in the last 6 months at various occasions, and it is an explosion of concentration - almost like a Dunn Howell Mountain combined with Pontet Canet from Pauillac. It definitely needs 3-5 more years, but their is no way it can be the same wine you tasted if it seemed light and pinot noir like. I just had it in my glass an hour ago. It is huge - and a brilliant wine.
2/21/19, 9:54 AM - I can really understand why people could mixed it up with a Barbaresco. My mind was really pendling back and forth between Barolo and Barbaresco when I had it served blind yesterday evening. And how cool is it to run into a 2013 Barolo with such an immediate appeal! Bloody amazing. So far only Bartolo Mascarello and Guiseppe Rinaldi from 2013 has been at a higher level for me - the rest +30 Barolos from 2013 has not been able to match this Roagna jewel.
1/19/19, 11:34 PM - I had the same experience with half of mine. Bought a case (6) and 3 of them have had this brett thing going on - the 3 others have been worldclass. First one was not good, and I initially thought it had been stewed either during transportation to denmark or in the importers window where I picked it up. But the second bottle was full of energy and freshness. Had my last bottle yesterday - opened it an hour before leaving to a dinner party to check due to my earlier experience, but luckily it was a masterpiece. It could easily match a ROAGNA VV Paje Barbaresco that was 3 times as expensive. I am giant DuMol fan, but a 50 procent failure rate is not attractive. Never had any problems with the syrahs, cabs and chardonnays or with the other pinots fot that matter - so to me it has been related only to the Finn 2012. Pity, the right ones have been so wonderful and up there with the best pinots on the west coast.
10/28/18, 3:00 AM - It is very typical for wines like this to shut down completely 6-12 months after being released. Give it another 4 yrs and it will wake up with a colorful soul :-)
10/20/18, 2:29 AM - @Aagrawal Sorry, but I am not going to reveal that little gem to the entire community here. I plan to go back in may/2019, and with a little luck there is still a bottle waiting for me. Hope you understand. I lot of rich people are scanning all the restaurant and shops in Barolo in order to find wines like this, and they pay whatever it takes to get it. This restaurant doesn´t have a website, hence there is chance that it can stay under the radar.
9/29/18, 4:51 AM - I completely agree with you. Awesome Barbera.
9/7/18, 11:20 PM - Feel exactly the same way. In 2018 I have tried +10 Pauillacs in the range of 40 - 100 Usd without finding something I felt was Quality Pauillac and worth the money. So this beauty was such a relief to find. Higly recommendable.
8/25/18, 9:21 AM - Let me know how it drinks. I just realized that the one from yesterday was from my second shipment. I fear that the bottles from this case is different than the others I have and have tasted so far.The “real” 2010 is outstanding, the one from yesterday was more like the 2009. Pretty ordinary and mediocre.
6/21/18, 2:53 PM - According to my experience with these wines it will only be more port like if you give it 2-3 more years. Of course different bottles can develop in different directions and pace, but my last bottle had almost no acidity left which to me indicates that a downhill journey has begun. It was still brilliant, but I personally don´t think it will get any better, only sweeter and more warm in its expression. Enjoy - and good luck with drinking it in the future. Hope it delivers what you expect.
6/18/18, 9:56 PM - Which one came in first?
6/18/18, 9:47 PM - 13 was a cold brunello year, and the 98-99 scores are from critics that goes nuts about the elegance, minerality and the pure expression. Personally, I am on your team with 92-93. But, as we all know - with a Brunello anything can happen with only a few years in the dark cellar. Wouldn´t be surprised to see this guy step up in the near future.
1/31/18, 5:02 AM - Some of these sangiovese monsters tends to shut down for 2-3 years. Don´t be afraid - it´ll come back. I´ve seen it a lot over the last 25 years with several brunellos, chianties etc. It is typically a good sign. Wait till 2020-21 and it will unfold.
1/30/18, 10:57 PM - Hawk64,I paid 50 Usd pr. bottle for the first case when it was released, and luckily on black friday I hooked another case and 4 magnums - this time for 32 usd (per 0,75 bottle). Couldn´t believe my luck.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
