An elegant aged Tempranillo
Floral, with a tobacco finish.
The wine mellowed appropriately with time but still maintained a good balance of acidity fruit and tannic bite.

A little hot, unbalanced and tannic , concentrated and almost port like initially. Though it paired ok with the food, this is way too young.

Lots of potential but drank young. The tannins are slightly over pronounced. The green pepper from the Cab Franc is evident in the blend , and makes this Bordeaux style blend interesting. I’ll be interested to see how this develops with more age

Good fruit , mild acidity, mellowed tannin, good balance, long finish
This drinks fresh but with a hint of tertiary flavors that gives away some age.
One of my first US Pinot’s that could mistaken for a good aged Burgundy

This is a young beast. Still a little sharp on the tannin and no secondary flavor.
Good structure and this big wine has the potential to improve from here

Gorgeous . Fruit forward, modern new world style. The structure is allowing this wine to age well at 14.
Balanced and beautiful.

The Sangiovese cherry pops, some cinnamon with background secondary flavors of vanilla from the oak.
In hour two the cherry turns into cranberry. The vanilla subsides and earthy flavors come out.
Overall great

An earthy balanced Bordeaux blend. The 2003’s are drinking well. This one is different.
I know there’s a lot of commentary about the hot year , but this wine isn’t overly ripe. The nose is funky, but in a good way
Flavors of raspberry and smoked meat and gamey.
Interesting wine but not my favorite 2003 Bordeaux.

This has older earthy Bordeaux characteristics but with somewhat riper and sweeter dark fruit.
The oak is pronounced, but the acidity, tannin and balance is good .
This wine is still youthful at 21.

Fragrant nose leading to a medium bodied balanced Cabernet.
The best thing I can say is that it’s smooth, but not flabby.
Flavors of cranberry, dark fruit , orange peel with some minor earthiness. The tannins have mellowed but the secondary flavors aren’t pronounced yet. I don’t see this improving more with age

Broken Spanish.
A good balance of ripe fruit, fine tannin and secondary flavors.
The tannic bite is slightly over evident for my palate and it drinks slightly hot. Hopefully it will improve over dinner.
This wine needed more air...drinking better in hour two. Started dinner at 92, ended 94
The 2003’s are drinking well at 18 yo

Nice Sangiovese cherry with a slight tannic bite on the finish.
The secondary flavors on the mid palate are nice. The wine continued to open nicely throughout dinner. It probably needed a little more decant time.

Ripe to the point of almost tasting fortified.
IMO it’s a food wine, too overdone, extracted to drink alone.
Not my style.
I have a few more bottles that I’ll decant first to see if that makes a difference

This wine has exited the primary phase and has now entered its drinking window.

A little disjointed, a little hot. Maybe the heat of the vintage affected the wine or maybe it’s just this bottle

I compare this to Bordeaux since that’s what the blend represents. We’ve recently been enjoying the 2003 Bordeaux vintage.
Smooth , balanced and opening up in hour two.
Good fruit, acidity with some vanilla from the oak. If I had one criticism it would be that it has slightly too much sugar, which is the greatest difference between this an a real Bordeaux , it lacks complexity at this point.

So tonight; After a one hour decant , Verite Le Desir. I like Verite overall.
That being said :
Great nose. The Cabernet Franc is prevalent and it’s almost 50% of the wine The Merlot comes out in the finish
It’s getting better in hour two, but not in the same league as a Palmer of the same age, but still good

We like Cos D’Estournal. This our second 2003 Cos, and better than the prior bottle.
( more age, longer decant, bottle variation)
This is an appropriately mature Bordeaux. Rich opulent with dark fruit, plum, anise. Secondary flavors of mushroom and tobacco. No sharp edges
It does represent the year ( hot ) and so it might not age well but it drinks well now
The finish is great without any tannic bite and it has the secondary flavors you want with an aged Bordeaux

Elegant and balanced . The age has added just the right amount of tobacco on the finish while not overpowering the fruit.
The Cab fruit isn’t predominant so it drinks like a good aged Bordeaux , but there’s nothing but first growths that have this definition, complexity and fruit in the 20 yo category ...IMO

The Hobbs version of BTK isn’t as good as the Realm or Schrader 2005 that I’ve recently experienced.
That being said it’s a decent dinner wine.
The tannins are mellow, there’s some secondary flavors and the fruit, though slightly faded is still ok. It finishes slightly hot.
This bottle is in its 8th inning. Drink now.
