Opened not decanted. CT says the value is $91. Winesearcher says you can buy it at $45. This was a gift and unfortunately I don’t remember from whom. I do remember it being handed to me and I didn’t open it as I had decanted a bottle from the cellar. My wife made an eggplant parmigiana tonight and I was looking for an inexpensive bottle in our kitchen and thought this would work with the tannins. And I figured it wasn’t a long term ager as it had a screw top. Well so far, my observations are pretty bad but let’s see how this progresses.

Light, bright fruit with an acidic attack; cherry red in color with a touch of clarity; lightweight in body; a touch of chocolate (oak); ends with a dry cherry and somewhat short finish. Hoping it will evolve with air. Fair to Good.

1/13/23, 7:05 PM - Interesting point on the bacteria: the red wine vinegar is just not happening. I thought it’s because it’s been cold in our house which might retard growth. I did use a small amount of hydrogen peroxide (per instructions) to neutralize any sulfites in the wine. But it smells unchanged. My white wine vinegar is almost done.

Dark purple in color with some clarity at the edge. Dry bramble attack of black red fruit. Sharp jagged notes; light in body with a short finish with some heat. Fair to Good. Needs food (we have a pizza being delivered in 6 minutes).

Opened not decanted and served chilled. Pale pine gold in color. Cold clean attack of lemon and lime fruit. Medium weight in body. Ends with a tangy and tongue coating lemon finish. Good + FYI these bottles are getting better with age

“Opened not decanted and served chilled. Light lemon citrus attack; medium weight in body; ends with a slight bit watery and a sweet and sour lemon finish. Good”

FYI, I find these great everyday drinkers. I would have to check but I think I’ve bought three different vintages now.

White
2019 Kirkland Signature Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay
Chablis28’s note describes this well. I generally try to avoid the Kirkland brand wines, as I’d rather know more about the wine and producer, etc. My wife can’t help herself and brings a few home to try. I see this costs around $18, and if that’s the case this is a real bargain. Probably the best QPR in Chardonnay I have had. Leaves me conflicted - delicious, but I’d sure like to know more about what is in the bottle.

2/17/22, 5:14 PM - I read on another site (Bezerker?) that Jean Marc Brocard is the producer. Costco also carries their self named wines. I didn't look at the 2019 label yet, but on other vintages, the label mentions the 2 1'st Cru vineyards.

FYI, I bought 6 but haven't popped one yet. Will probably do so in the next day or so.

Opened not decanted and served chilled. Better as it warms up. Lemon lime notes; an acidic bite; slightly watery. Ends with a sour finish. Good.

Opened not decanted and served chilled. The cold suppresses the fruit so definitely needs to be warmer. Sweet and sour attack of yellow citrus fruit; nice acidity; light to medium weight in body; earth undertones with hints of dark fruit; ends with sour with touches of sweetness citrus finish. A really interesting wine that I would buy and drink again. Good to Very Good.

Opened, double decanted. I found the tannins so harsh and the fruit shut down that it was undrinkable. Put back into the bottle (except the glass I tossed) and will revisit tomorrow.

Well, I tried it yesterday and today and poured it down the drain.

Opened not decanted and served chilled. Dark and sour lemon attack; medium weight in body; nice acidity; darker notes start to emerge that I can't quite describe (which is embarrassing) something to a tangy, lemon meringue; ends with a very long finish with a tongue coating sour then sweet twist. Very Good and quite pleasing. In fact, I think that I killed most of the bottle trying to figure out the tastes.

Opened not decanted and served chilled. Fruit is reticent almost opaque if opaque is a taste descriptor. Nice acidity; lightweight in body; ends with a crisp light citrus finish. The problem for me with the wine overall is that the fruit is thin and far way. I don’t remember every having a Chablis that was shut down possibly this is the case but I think not. A fair wine at a fair price but not a repeat purchase, but I still have 5 left in inventory.

Opened not decanted and served chilled. Strong lemon and lime notes. There is an underlying layer of dark tastes not necessarily good for me. It almost tastes off, but isn't. Not sure if its just an earthiness or the profile of the wine. Medium weight in body; nice acidity; ends with a sweet and sour finish. Good.

This was a K&L Champagne shipment. I'm normally partial to champagne that does not have a strong yeast profile and tends towards clean citrus but, I must say, I thought this was one of the best wines they shipped all year. Clean and fresh but the yeast was there but not in your face and held in check. It was a perfect balance between the two taste profiles I usually detect in champagne. This will be the first time that I've used Occam's razor in a tasting note (as far as I can remember) so here goes: there are two descriptions for this wine, but neither descriptor is simpler or better. Ok, Occam's razor doesn't apply, but at least I used it in a tasting note. Good to Very Good.

Opened not decanted. Picked this up at Costco. The shelf talker mentioned a high score from WS.

I have bought Pali wines direct in the past (from the early vintages with Brian Loring) but this was the first time I've seen one in a retail location, so they must have upped their production and widened their distribution. The last couple of bottles I bought were about a year ago from the tasting room in the Funk Zone in Santa Barbara. If you haven't been, it's a wine bar hang out with club music for Millennials and not a traditional tasting room.

This wine was extremely disappointing. I found this to be a mouthful of liquid jam, somewhat thin in body and ends with a drying and hot finish. I'm guessing it's made to appeal to a younger generation whose palates are conditioned to stronger and sweeter tastes than mine. Not sure who reviewed this at WS (maybe the winery gave them a different bottle / blend?) but my experience was way different than theirs. Mediocre.

6/7/17, 5:25 PM - Thanks for your comment. Sorry for not responding sooner. It's possible that there is a storage issue with Costco wines as they are sold in a non temperature controlled environment. (I had some flat tasting champagnes from there and was wondering if the storage temps were an issue for those too).

If you read my 07 Keefer notes, I decided to pull this one also as I thought it might be over the hill or flawed. Opened not decanted: fresh dark tastes of black grapes with dark cherry notes. Medium weight in body but ends with a harsh and choppy finish. Good on Day 1.

Finished on Day 2: the wine was the same but the finish resolved to silkiness. Good to Very Good.

3/11/17, 7:13 AM - Hi, Mark. A 750, not decanted. I'm guessing an hour in the decanter will greatly benefit and smooth the finish. However, the mag may behave differently. Enjoy!

Non wino neighbors invited us over and served two bottles of champs because they knew my wife likes French Champagne. We had this and the NV Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow. (I think they picked these up at Trader Joes). No formal notes, but my wife and I both enjoyed this wine better than the VC with more citrus with a cleaner more refreshing finish. Good.

8/15/16, 9:58 AM - Noted and you are correct. I left that in because there are people that do think Prosecco, Cava and some CA sparklers are "champagne". I should have removed it. Thanks for your comment!
