Juicy, intense fruit aromas and some woody notes. Overall a bit off-balance with components side by side. By now, it should have integrated and matured. Let's visit it again in a few years.

I did not like this wine. I decantered over an hour. The bouquet was quite promising, lots of plum, prune on the nose. But the taste was out of synch. The acid was high and the tannins were lower than the acid. Either the bottle was flawed or I just don't understand all the praise is around this vintage. I miss the old school Barolos, with french oak.
  • Jonas Boman commented:

1/7/24, 1:34 AM - I understand what you mean by the nose and taste being off.
However old school style with french oak. The old traditional style is rather using larger oak cask made from slovanian oak. Perhaps I did not get what you meant.

Azelia normale usually reveals its hand earlier--nonetheless, this medium bodied beauty is tight and expressive. Licorice dominates now, but there's morello cherry and some rose petals and blood orange sneaking up on the finish. Another few years and tbis will be a jewel.

Quite tight and austere on night one. It did show plenty of tannin and acidity behind decent density. Night two shows the fruit opening quite nicely. Plummy fruit with facets of tobacco, chocolate and rocks. The aforementioned tannin and acidity really makes this wine work. It's likely to be at it's best with a few more years rest. The tannin is still lengthy and a touch astringent yet. And the fruit should unfold further. All that just makes this a very nice value. A stupid, crazy value if you can get it at Costco for $23 still.

I have been drinking this as a house wine for the last several weeks. Just PnP. There have been a couple bottles that were a bit closed. That being said, I would still rate them in the 93-94 range. This wine can be purchased in the low $30's and it drinks better than Silver Oak or Caymus, at roughly 3x the price. It is a more complete wine and will gain more in complexity with aging as well. This wine makes a compelling case for Bordeaux still being the source for excellent value. I have purchased 8-9 cases, and will buy the 2020 as well. If you are a Bordeaux fan, and don't mind a slight nod to modernity, you should load up on this.

Screw cap. Had this grape in Italy years ago, and did not like it. Giving it another try and it's much the same. Sulphur that's hard to decant out, but it's already a very oxidized flavor. Eventually some green apple shows up, maybe some pineapple notes and some indeterminate spice, but overall not a pleasant drink. Maybe some petrol on the nose. Save your money and just get an $8 random white at the grocery store.

In a great place at the moment. Juicy, balanced and a very welcome change for a Bordeaux/Brunello drinker like myself. Good on day one, fabolous on day 2. Tannins mellow, nose of raspberries and some flowery elements. The palate has just the right amount of sweetness. A certain "light-footed" character that in conjunction with the aromatic presence of this wine makes this a pleasure to drink. Glad I have a few more bottles to play around with.

Pnp. Light purple with a strong brown edge. Limited nose. Initially quite acid/fresh that after roughly 1 hour diminished a bit and created space for a nice, tannic finish. My wife, who likes light wines, didn’t appreciate it at all. I liked it, although the wine performed at it’s best with the dish (Lasagne).

Continues to develop in a positive way. Typical mushed mature strawberries, rosehip and dried roses-galore. Very generous nose with lots of layers and plenty complexity. Old leather, cherries, dried herbs, paint box and so on. Keep reading about those tapenade-notes and sure, if you're looking they are definitely there. Burlottos Monvigliero follows a clear pattern with its sweet strawberries/tapenade-notes on the nose and in this '08 they are very prominent. Excellent nose.
Lots of structure also with high quality tannins and proper acidity. The fruits gets a little dry/more mature on the palate. Leans towards more tertiary notes of leather and tar. Long aftertaste, overall a very elegant package. Hard to call this drinking window wise, I personally find it nearing its peak but if you want the real maturity you'll have to wait a good 5-10. That's my guess anyway.
I've got one more bottle and I'll try to stay away from it the coming 5.
Side note; payed 310 skr (around €30) for this back in the days. Mind-boggling.

Pure and balanced. Fruit is pretty dark and on and off got a touch of ink to it. Feels light and elegant and quite different from ES's Barolos, particularly his Riserva that's a lot more dirty and tertiary in profile.
With air more classic notes appear.
Grateful for the opportunity to try this, qpr is questionable but if you're interested in the winemaking process and what Nebbiolo could be like only aged in cement tank it's worth it.

Tasted over two days, alongside a 2012 Produttori del Barbaresco.

This Barolo offered a prettiness of perfume and textures that the Barbaresco, made from declassified 'Cru' fruit this vintage, could not match. Indeed!...what an incredible bouquet...in a word...GORGEOUS! All things raspberry (fresh berries, jams, candies, teas, potpourri), in harmonious interplay with strawberry, rhubarb, pomegranate, and acerola, enhanced by orange marmalade, candied orange peel, orange blossom honey, kumquat, and candied lemon peel...with rose petal, hibiscus tea, rose hip, menthol, and evergreen forest top notes. In another...er...two words: KNEE-WEAKENING!!!

The bouquet's elements also show on the palate...in thunderous waves of esctacial rapture. (If this descriptor seems over-the-top...so be it.) Now to the inflection-changing textures: The attack puts the mind to Chambolle-Musigny while the middle and back evoke Corton. High acid and ethereally powdery tannin frame the wine with unpretentious grandiosity. The finish has no, nor understands the meaning of, quit.

Perfect oak treatment. Tremendous purity and harmony throughout. Incredible now, even better in time...and holding onto bottles will prove a challenging endeavor, no doubt. A top flight Barolo by any measure...including price.

A little beauty. Thought it would be taut and tight being so young, but after a decanting it was light on its feet like a ballerina in toe shoes and veritably danced on the tongue. Not as dense as I thought it might be but still has some concentration and lighter berry fruit notes balanced by forest floor for structure and none of the tobacco, cedar, and graphite you get from its more northerly neighbors. Then I have very little experience with Margaux. A good wine that will not disappoint. Yet I don’t see this as a long term ager. Since the tannins are fine and already integrated and the fruit already forward I’d consume this over the next 3-5 years.

$29.99 pre-arrival order from K&L. Smooth, elegant, dense wine with characteristic Bordeaux flavor. Not overly complex but pleasant and satisfying. I enjoy easy drinking wine like this. Reading the other reviews that express some disappointment, for example SANCAT's review which mentions a $60 price, I'm reminded how much price impacts enjoyment. I've been disappointed numerous times in the past buying expensive wines with high scores when the wines did not live up to my expectations for the money spent. Probably the best method to rate wines is to taste and rate without awareness of the price. I undoubtedly rate enjoyable inexpensive wines higher and enjoyable expensive wines lower simply because I'm always aware of the price and that definitely influences my judgement. This 2016 Château Labégorce delivers a solid wine for the price I paid. Nice.

I min smak peakar detta vin nu snarare än senare. Tror inte det blir bättre än det är nu.

I brought it to a small dinner party and it was a success. One said it was the best champagne she ever had and every one was really appreciative. Around 90 maybe?

A fun inexpencive champagne to try out if you curious about how mature champagne taste like.

Still quite primary, fruit driven modern cabernet with some oak. Mostly black currants on the palate. With air, the excellent balance stands out. Right now, not so much complexity, but should cellar well for at least a decade. Good value for money also. Was really nice to some grilled, slightly spicy, strip loin steak.

Edit: Day 2 it has filled out nicely. Someone has dropped a chocolate liquor praline in the glass. The sweet&sour is more pronounced, as well as a bouquet of violets and some sweet licorice. Early days. Wait ten years. Expect it to perform slightly higher at peak maturity.
