4/21/24, 2:07 PM - Napa in Newport had their charity event last night at the Pendry in Newport Beach. It was their 10th anniversary. Morlet was still there. It was announced that Morlet going to be the Vintner Chair for the next NiN charity event, March 1, 2025. All the attendees were given a Morlet 375ml bottle in our “swag bag”.
4/1/24, 6:18 PM - I completely agree with 3daywinereview!!! I think this might be one of the best values on WTSO ever, and I’ve been a fan of theirs since 2011!I still have 4 bottles left, having one tonight with a really nice Center Cut Filet, and I’m dolling these last bottles out like they’re gold! 😂
1/20/24, 11:46 AM - It probably was way back in 2016 when I had this 2007 vintage wine. But to be fair, I've always been an exceptionally tough grader, and remain so today. 88% of all my scores are 91 points or below. Only 1% have been graded 93 or higher, and I have just a tad over 1,500 tasting notes.
1/22/24, 10:35 AM - Yes, I’m terribly (over!) focused on Cabernet Sauvignon, specifically from Napa and Sonoma. Overall, I think I like the high alcohol, bigger, fruit driven New World Reds from California. The wines I’ve had from Bordeaux and other Old World regions just don’t tickle my taste buds as much.As for Smith-Madrone, and the Smith Brothers, Stu and Charlie, I have always loved their CS. I just stopped by their place in mid-December, and picked up a case of their 2019 vintage. Had a bottle at my son’s house in Sonoma that night to try it. While drinking very well already, it really has years, and years, ahead of it! Hope to have the willpower to not open any more for at least a few years. I still have a Smith-Madrone 2007 in my cellar waiting for a special night to get into it.I only had one bottle of the ’07 B Cellars (it was a gift), and without a doubt, it was too young when I drank mine. How little I knew back then… and still to this day as well. Never stop learning and exploring.
1/10/24, 9:37 AM - Thanks VinoHunter... I already went back to WTSO, and purchased more back in November. I haven't had them delivered yet though. I also purchased more of Summitvine's Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. It's $10 more a bottle, but if you haven't tried it yet... you should! ;-)
12/26/23, 9:24 AM - It’s available at wtso.com right now for $60.
11/3/23, 12:11 PM - I’ve been dealing with WTSO since late 2010. I agree with your assessment of their current situation 100%! I used to get great wine for the money I paid. Now, like what you said, most are “an OK wine”, worth about what we paid for it. My purchasing from them is down about 75%, primarily due to this QPR going down so drastically.
7/10/23, 3:51 PM - I like it... Short and to the Point! :-)
5/15/23, 3:38 PM - Appreciate the vote of confidence in my tasting note, but keep in mind, everyone’s taste buds are different, and this wine might’ve been one that really tickles yours.
6/23/23, 11:31 PM - @ abachmutsky - nice research. I couldn't find anything on them at all either. Thankfully, WTSO has a no questions asked policy regarding any bottle they sell. I've been dealing with them since 2011 and I can tell you, they STAND behind it 100%! And a spectacular customer service group to back it up to boot!
6/14/23, 10:03 PM - Thanks, I appreciate it. While I do try to make my notes, informative, and something I can relate to with future bottles, they certainly do not have to be is dry, and boring, as some people believe wine should be. I Like Fun!As an FYI, that last bottle of Quatreaux I referred to in this tasting note? It lasted two months, and I drank it. My bad! As I said, in my review on that very last bottle, I didn’t even properly review my own tasting notes. So much for making something relatable with my future bottles! 🤦🏼♂️😂
6/13/23, 5:11 PM - Love your last statement, (wine) words to live by! 😉
6/10/23, 9:01 PM - Great review, with excellent details!
6/7/23, 11:07 PM - Yup, no major change after 2 hours of decanting, and 3 hours of drinking it. Hugely Overpriced!
5/21/23, 7:33 PM - You’re Welcome!
11/5/21, 3:02 PM - Cellarweasil - Oh, I completely agree, at least in part. Yes, a ‘19 CS is exceptionally young, and while I don’t profess to be any sort of “Wine Expert” in any way, shape, or form, I believe I have enough knowledge and experience to tell when a young wine has an opportunity for some serious improvement with some proper cellaring. I’ve already had many 2018 and 2019 wines that, while very young, have great balance, fruit, body, and life. You can tell they’re well-built, with a excellent opportunity to be great… in due time. Sorry to say, this wine didn’t show any of that to me.And hopefully you didn’t also put any additional “value” into this wine just because it’s label said “Reserve”. In some regions, Reserve on the label actually means something, but in other areas, such as the USA, it means Absolutely Nothing. As WineFolly.com states, “In the US, ‘Reserve’ doesn’t technically mean anything.” Here’s a link to their full story. Cheers! :-)https://winefolly.com/tips/reserve-wine-well-depends/
12/6/21, 8:58 AM - @VinoHunter - that could be the case, but it just didn't taste like it was cooked, or off, it just didn't taste like it was good. Heck, I could have been having an off night too. Definitely "Cheers" to better (and more!) bottles!
12/6/21, 1:23 PM - LOL, good point, maybe you shouldn’t? 😂
12/8/21, 6:22 PM - @Kentw - I don’t disagree with your thoughts on this puppy at all. I’m not keen on drinking a CS this young either, but when I buy several bottles, I always try one a couple of weeks after resting,Just to get a baseline. In this case, that 1st bottle showed such little opportunity… 🤷🏼♂️. That’s why there’s hundreds of wineries in Napa alone… different wines, for different folks.
7/28/22, 10:57 AM - Mmaronati, Consider yourself lucky that you don’t have one. 😉What I find even crazier is that, according to CT, 46 bottles have been consumed, and other than my reviews, only one other member felt it was worth reviewing. I find that interesting, and possibly quite telling. 🤔
4/15/22, 8:05 PM - To TheBigBaby, while I didn’t initially have any aroma or taste of green pepper, on my last glass, I got a pretty nice dose of both! Kudos to a well developed & trained snout! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
3/22/22, 3:51 PM - Glad you liked my review. In regards to you thinking it's young, I think the '15 are drinking very well currently. And while I believe a well-made CS from Napa (floor or mountain fruit) can age for years, even decades, I'm not so sure this one is meant for extended cellaring. Just didn't think it had a long time ahead of it.I did some research and the only thing I could find on a Saint Veeder Winery was a very generic website at, https://saintveederwines.com/. Interestingly, the cork had "Mount Veeder Magic Vineyards" imprinted on it, which I believe is a Private Label Wine maker. Not sure who is behind the "Saint Veeder" name itself?
3/23/22, 6:19 PM - Yeah, really not sure what all is happening. I just thought it was interesting and that I would share what I found. Cheers.
7/21/21, 6:24 PM - 😂😂😂 Exactly!
9/19/21, 11:08 PM - Hahaha!!! 👍🏻
2/25/22, 8:39 AM - @americanstorm - $35 is what I paid for it. I bought it mid-last year from WTSO. I saw they were selling it again earlier today. My review was based on me paying $35, not the winery price of $150.
2/25/22, 9:15 AM - Well, I certainly hope my review/opinion didn’t keep you from buying a wine that may have really tickled your taste buds. Everyone’s “buds” are tickled differently, and by different wines & their style. I tend to use reviews as guidance, they’re certainly not the Holy Grail, especially mine. 😂
2/25/22, 8:44 AM - Thanks… already did!
2/25/22, 9:05 AM - They’re spectacular!
2/18/22, 7:12 PM - I couldn’t agree more, this has been one of my all-time favorites from SG, and we’ve been wine club member for many, many years.
2/9/22, 10:16 PM - Nice review and details. Good job. I’m a big Groth Fan! Good wine with a great QPR!
2/8/22, 6:40 PM - Thanks, appreciate the acknowledgment! 😁🍷
2/3/22, 1:08 PM - Hello pianist718, of course, I prefer seeing “Produced and Bottled” on the back of the label compared to “Vinted and Bottled”, but since this wine had come fairly highly rated, I wanted to give it a try. My review was really not very “over the top” on it. In fact, I compared it against Sequoia Grove’s standard CS (not one of their Winemaker Series or Single Vineyard offerings) and stated that the Sequoia Groves was better. I rated the SG 92 points and have since gone out and bought a case of it. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it. Cheers!
2/4/22, 3:57 PM - Are you saying you have 1 bottle of the Mount Veeder, or the Sequoia Grove? To clarify, in regards to my comment about “buying a case” and “highly recommending it”, I’m referring to the Sequoia Grove, not the Mount Veeder. While I wouldn’t hesitate to buy either of these bottles actually, at the same price point, I definitely would lean towards the SG! In the spirit of full transparency, I must state that I am an SG Wine Club Member and have been for many, many years! All that being said, regardless of which of these bottles you have, go ahead and crack it. I’d love to see what you think of it.
2/5/22, 9:21 AM - That's Great... I hope you enjoy it. If you do, I believe most stores still have inventory on the '18.
1/26/22, 12:07 PM - Packinmn - Just be glad I didn't rate every bottle I had. This was the CS at my son's wedding in 2021. I think we had 75+ bottles of it. 😂
7/20/21, 7:30 PM - Wow, that’s crazy!!! Hopefully they were stored properly.
12/29/21, 6:03 PM - That’s great news, so glad to hear! Enjoy them!
12/15/21, 8:13 AM - That’s very likely. That’s probably one of my biggest issues with Coravan, the lack of decanting and seeing how the wine changes, as you drink through it. I did actually let the glass sit for ~90 minutes, but I neglected to state that in my note. I’ll go back and edit/update it. I do agree with you though, I have also found the 2015 vintage to be interesting!
12/8/21, 6:16 PM - That Was Awesome!!! 👍🏻
11/5/21, 6:18 PM - Ghank you, great review and details. Couldn’t agree more. I just (accidentally 🤦🏼♂️) opened and drink mine tonight. Still needs 3 to 7 years!
10/29/21, 8:38 AM - Thanks for the heads up, I actually did go back and buy four more a few days ago. Would have bought a case, but I have too much wine and my wife would kill me! Looking forward to getting them and seeing how they may have changed and if my primitive taste buds can notice any differences.Hope you enjoy it.
10/28/21, 11:19 AM - Yes, these were from WTSO. I've actually tried several of the Meander Offerings listed on WTSO. Have to say, a couple of the shipments were sent in Aug/Sept and got cooked on the way to me (So California) from NJ. I think your best guide in regards to opening would be, when they were shipped, how far they had to travel and the weather at the time of shipment. If you open one and really like it, I think WTSO still has inventory on these.I love WTSO's guarantee, I've been buying from them since December, 2010... 1,284 bottles and counting. :-)
7/30/21, 10:13 AM - Just curious if you meant to mark this as “did not like”? Since you gave it 94 Points and some very nice comments. 🤔
7/27/21, 9:59 PM - Just had to make this addition as a "comment" and not just update my original tasting note. I forgot that I had about a 1/2 glass left and I headed off and got distracted. Came back about Three Hours later and MAN, this just blew me away. Some bottles (months/years?) ago, I stated that you should PnP this guy... have to say, I'm not so sure right now. That last 1/2 Glass was amazing. Still going to leave this at 92 Points, but I'm tempted to move it to a 93 (which I've only had 7 wines of that score) and nothing higher. Ever. When I say I grade hard, I'm not kidding.
3/3/21, 7:43 PM - Decanting definitely helps, I believe I neglected to mention that! I also agree that more years will help and I still have a half case in the cellar. 😉
6/6/21, 7:17 PM - I’ve had ~6 bottles since my last comment back in March. Of those 6, 2 were seriously corked, 1 was going bad and the other 2, while drinkable, were no where near as good as the bottles just 6-12 months ago. Until this experience with these last bottles, I would have agreed 100% that there was YEARS left in the bottles. Sorry to say, I’m not so sure anymore. Having my last bottle tonight and while it’s not flawed, it’s probably no better then 89 Points (and I grade exceptionally hard). And to be clear, all my bottles are properly stored.
7/27/21, 9:22 AM - Thanks for the suggestion. I have been dealing with WTSO since 2011, absolutely LOVE their Customer Service and how they back ALL of their bottles 100%! Great Business Model for the Consumer!
6/14/21, 10:25 PM - I drink too much to wait. :-)I'm even more bummed because I just got notified that they shipped my Meander '18 Rutherford CS today and the weather is forecasted to get even worse this coming week. I already told them I was going to take a close look at these bottles when they came in!
7/15/21, 7:41 PM - Correction: the Rutherford coming in was 2016, not 2018. The bad news is that they were All Bad. What a total shame. My bad. I just need to remember/learn that in the Summer, it’s too just risky to ship from NJ to CA. Thankfully, WTSO’s has a Top-Notch Customer Service team. I’ve been buying from them since 2012… over 1,200 bottles. They are just Outstanding! Fan For Life!
7/14/21, 4:12 PM - Too Young? Quite possible, but the vast majority of the Napa 2018 Cabernet Sauvignons I've had were just fine, some were spectacular.
6/30/21, 8:25 PM - Just bought a case! 😉
6/10/21, 7:29 AM - No worries VinoHunter, will be doing that later this morning. I've been dealing with WTSO since 2011 and have bought over 1,200 bottles through those years. I love that they stand behind every bottle they sell and to top it off, they have the absolute BEST Customer Service Team I've ever seen!
6/11/21, 9:45 AM - It’s quite possible that’s what happened. Where I live in So Cal, our weather has been very nice, but the East Coast and actually throughout the whole Midwest, was exceptionally hot this past week. 😳 Thankfully they back every bottle 100%! 👍🏻
6/6/21, 1:24 PM - Sounds like the ‘16 was your favorite vintage. I’ve only have the 2015 and 2016, but between those two I would definitely agree.
6/1/21, 6:23 PM - Bummer! 👎🏻
5/4/21, 8:12 PM - Sort of what I tasted. Looking forward to your next review. Whoa, wait?!?!? this is a $12 wine, WTH? Why so concerned? 😂
5/5/21, 3:52 PM - I couldn't agree with you more. I always try to provide the clearest and most transparent reviews. And I absolutely got your point about this Peachy Canyon being a "decent cheapie", actually my thoughts as well. Hopefully, your next bottle(s) won't be "a touch off". In regards to my comment about it being a "$12 wine", I will admit, I don't sweat it quite as much when I'm dealing with a daily drinker like this one. If it's something special, like a BV Georges de Latour, then it's a whole different story and I can really get lost in the weeds. In other words, if you've spent $12, there's not a whole heck of a lot to bitch or complain about, hence a neutral 88 score, but still an excellent QPR since I only paid $12 for it followed by a LOL emoji for emphasis.
4/11/21, 9:01 PM - No point value?
3/15/21, 8:39 PM - Classic, and such an oh-so-true a review. Solid <$15 bottle, but not much beyond that. Solid drinker... primarily due to its price point ($13 for me 😉).
2/28/21, 10:45 PM - Don’t forget, Legally in the USA, “reserve” means absolutely. This wine could be exactly what the “core” bottling is with a new “reserve” label! I’ve had about a case of this and at $13, it’s a Great QPR and a Spectacular Daily Drinker!NTW, very nice review ELEVINE! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
10/20/20, 11:04 PM - About halfway through the bottle, this started to get really good! Raising it a point to 92!
9/21/20, 8:10 PM - Exactly! I couldn’t agree more! 👍🏻
10/5/20, 6:54 PM - My local Costco was sold out, as were the other 3 within a reasonable driving distance. Was out in Rancho Mirage this past weekend with some friends. Happened to swing by the wine area (I had already brought 3 of my bottles with me) and they said they had 2 cases left, well, after let me tell you, after I left, they only had One Case left! 😉
8/29/20, 10:02 AM - Couldn’t help but laugh at your “epic failure” quote! I may have to steal/use it myself. 😃
7/17/20, 3:37 PM - No problem srh 👍🏻. I always try and put in fairly detailed notes, as much for any future bottles I may have, as well as for the CT Community. Hope you enjoy your bottle! 😃
7/18/20, 12:51 PM - 👍🏻
7/12/20, 8:51 AM - Thanks for the great, well written review. I’m a big fan of Salvestrin, but haven’t gotten their 2016 CS yet. I find with most of their wines, while drinkable upon release, do much better with a few years in the bottle.
7/13/20, 8:39 AM - Full agreement... so far I'm liking the younger 2016 better then the 2015! I think that bodes very well for the aging of a well made 2016 CS. Time will tell. ;-)
7/13/20, 11:02 PM - Yes, some experience, but it's typically priced above my Pay Grade. What I've had has always been spectacular, but at twice the price, I don't believe the QPR is as good as their standard CS offering.
7/8/20, 6:44 PM - It’s still “available” at WTSO if you want more.
6/2/20, 9:44 AM - Sorry McMalbec, PRV is Pine Ridge Vineyards in Napa Valley, along the Silverado Trail. Pine Ridge Vineyards is their primary label. I believe it's a fairly well thought of winery, but just not for me. They're website is at https://www.pineridgevineyards.com/
5/28/20, 7:47 AM - Thanks eyewino, I just saw that. Appreciate the heads up!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
