February 12, 2024 - Tasted directly at the vineyard. This Pinot Noir is an excellent display of what is possible in a german Pinot Noir. Deep, complex, so much dark fruits and smoke and spyces. It stays long on the palate and already drinks beautiful but will improve with some more years in the bottle. 95+

March 29, 2023 - Dinner at Long Ji: Deep smoky and coffee notes, similar to Roty’s oak signature so I guessed 2018 Gevrey. Impressively built but needs more time.

March 18, 2023 - Ten Pinots from Ten Regions Across the Globe: A fantastic tasting experience highlighting so many different styles of this wonderful grape. Two winners for me: Molitor’s Graacher Himmelreich*** 2018 (rated 95pts) which had a fantastic 97+ pts bouquet but a bit of a hole mid-palate. And Beaux Freres Beaux Freres Vyd 2019 (rated 95pts) which might not be the style of Pinot I want to drink every day, but was the most complete wine. Positive surprise: my first Italian Pinot ever, the St. Michael Eppan Sanct Valentin 2010 (94pts) which shined bright with its intriguing minerality.

TN: The most intriguing bouquet in the lineup. Very complex, hyper precise display of layer of dark fruits, dark red fruits, a lot of smoke, some minty notes, some intriguing toastiness, some meaty notes. Wow. The complexity is mind bending and it screams of elegance and finesse. On the palate this is good as well with all the same aromas and clearly the finest expression of Pinot in the whole lineup without loosing on complexity. There is a bit of a hole mid palate, the complexity and fine, delicate aromatic density of the nose is not matched, but this is great. Maybe it will fill out with more age. Nose was 97+, palate 93/94.

Decanting: Aerated for 45+ minutes in the glass, which seemed perfect.

March 12, 2023 - Tasted at the Matter of Taste Zurich, “Pinots of the World” Masterclass. According to Stephan Reinhardt this comes from a high altitude site in the Mosel from pure slate terroir typically used for Riesling. Planted in 1994. Long maceration and 18 months in pièces. Smoky, earthy and meaty with a liqueur-like extracted fruit and mushroom features. On balance more darker red cherry with elements of plum. The palate was acidity driven and had decent structure. This was good, especially if you like darker, more meaty Pinots. For me this lacked elegance and refinement.

March 12, 2023 - Masterclass with the Wine Advocate team: Great Pinots of the world (The Dolder Grand, Zurich): Glass: Stölzle Universal
Clear, medium ruby-garnet color. Weird nose with lots of bacon fat and speck. On the palate fresh, high acidity, beautiful ripe tannin, great salty mineral core. Fine red fruit, some bacon fat, spicy, herbaceous. Juicy and elegant. Long and lingering, fruity finish. 94+
