Half bottle, popped and poured. Abundant stone fruit on the nose and palate, along with honey, pear liqueur and slate qualities. Finishes with good length. So very good.

The End of the Golden Weather: a pre-COVID-19 Visit to Central Otago in Autumn 2020: Real difficulty extracting the cork had me fearing the worst for this wine ... However, it was a nice surprise how well this Auslese showed. Fresh with driving intensity and lovely honeycomb and peach flavours. Surprisingly youthful on palate. Drinking beautifully on the night. If the cork could survive, this wine could have easily gone another 10+ years. With this cork, it needed serving soon!

Long Italian Lunch, 28 July, 2020; 7/27/2020-7/28/2020 (Pokai Parera, Ekatahuna, New Zealand): Totally beautiful wine. At a pen of maturity, but will continue to develop for decades. Spectacular German acids, mineral, aged sugars, lime, green leaf, a touch of old oak character in the background. Spectacular finish of considerable complexity, with a particularly intense crushed kaffir lime lead note that brings the palate to a close.

Tasted blind. I was surprised it was this mature - showing extremely well for its age. Petrol nose, hint of cucumber and pineapple. Mild sweetness on the palate, befitting a mature Auslese. Very nice.

NR.23: fresh and pure like the dew on grass of a spring day but also with terrific precision. The fruit runs the gamut from kefir lime leaves and grapefruit pith to a tropical mango/papaya fruit. A touch of chalk and salinity to support the the complex fruit core. The attack still has some baby fat and it finishes long with well integrated acidity.

Lovely, intense pure orchard fruit, hints of lemon-citrus; Still good sweetness, purity, long long finish. Still young but in a very good place now. Would love to try in 10 yrs. Lunasia.

Excellent bottle; purchased from garagiste about 6 years ago, this is a winner from them. Nose heavy on diesel at first (and second...). After a while, some deeply caramelized honey comes through. Upon sipping, though, the petrol fades behind the coruscating acidity, with notes of lemon pie, citrus 'n stones and creamy tropical fruits. I noticed a little hollowness in the middle (I would have put 94-5 but for this) yet on the finish, my mouth tingled and watered for a good while, making me want to drink more. Lovely liquid gold, not-quite-amber color.

Lovely wine with aromas of petrol, honeydew melon, and lavender. On the palate the wine expresses citrus and tropical fruit ambrosia salad, and coconut milk. Maintaining beautiful acidity with an addicting creamy body.

2009 Beaujolais (Our House (2033 Brandywine St., Philadelphia)): A bit tough to figure. Pear, apricot, lemon zest and dried lemon peel. Nice tingling acidity on the tongue. Good sweet dried fruit and nice acidity on the palate. Lacks concentration and palate development. Not quite in balance but good flavor profile.

2009 Beaujolais Taasting (Josh & Shannon's): nose shows some dried fruit character of dried apricot or quince jelly. palate is quite refreshing -- the sugars have mellowed and this has a medium(+) acidity that keeps it lively. palate has more orchard fruit and peach -- a little riper fruit, with some dried honeysuckle notes. medium(+) finish shows some sweet spice and white pepper.

With dessert at John & Lin's. Slightly muted nose of stone fruit, honey, hint of petrol, but nothing restrained on the palate. Very full & fruit-driven balanced out with nice acidity, still fresh, peach/apricot notes and some tropical fruit notes that came out when paired with the creme brulee. Great finish. Lots of life left in this one.

At Tru in Chicago. A superlative and stunning wine, starting with its color: pale yellow, without any hints of rich gold that might betray its age. The nose is pure apricot, peach, and slate, with a sumptuous fig-like richness lurking in the background. In the mouth, a caressing nectar rolls across your palate, unfolding layers of fruit tinged with sweetness, bolstered by impressive complexity and richness. A hint of acidity still lurks, but the wine explodes through the finish, a cacophony of fruit and mineral notes that speaks from the very soul of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. Hold your Rieslings. It is so worth it. A

Trip to Boston; 6/4/2008-6/9/2008: lighter color than the spatlese, tropical fruit on the nose, more bright acidity, floral, middle has lots of green aplle and pears, wild strawberry with time, great tarness on the finish. excellent

Super classic Karthauserhof herbs, green-streaked fruit and minerality, but with an amplified palate presence with tons of concentration and significant sweetness. Lots of that Ruwer nervousness too.

The cork on this wine made us worry a little. The top was covered in black and gray mold. The bottom of the cork was fine, however, and the wine was delicious. Petrol, turpentine, and honey dominate the nose. The flavor confirmed the petrol smells and brought a nice tart apple crispness. The moderate sweetness in the wine made it perfect with a cheese course to end an evening.

Allred opened a 375ml of this at his house. 1990 was a very good vintage in the MSR. A sleak and somewhat lean wine. It wasn't displaying many of the petrol or heavier notes you would expect from a 17 year old Auslese. Notes of lemon curd and minerals. This wine had a wet stone feel to it. Medium bodied with gripping acidity on the finish. 91 points.

Still somewhat 'fresh' tasting, though the fruit is not as tropical as I recall, with lemon and a touch of slate. To say this had gripping acidity on the palate would almost be an understatement.

From a 375 ml bottle. One of the nastiest corks ever, but luckily the seal was good and wine in the bottle was very nice. Nose of bright white and tropical fruit, with an underlying petrol note. On the palate, this had real zip, with apple, a bit of citrus and good minerality. Compared to recent vintages and trends, this came across more like an off-dry wine than a full blown, ultra-sweet dessert wine. In fact, this is a better food wine than dessert wine.
