Decanted four hours in advance. Floral, developed and delicate aromas. Light weighted and elegant on the palate, and fully developed. Even more floral and delicate after several hours in the glass. A wine for sniffing.

Dark, spicy and earthy Pinot Noir aromas. Tight, restrained and dry on the palate. Drinking well now, but I guess it will improve over the next ten years.

Pen fylde i anslaget. Fin modning i frukten og bra friskhet. Medium pluss konsentrasjon. Etterhvert melder 05 strukturen seg og river litt i kjakene. Ingen skam å åpne disse nå, men heller ingen ting å stresse med. Dette var skikkelig digg. Lang finish med markante tanniner. Tanninene lever nok lenger enn frukten. Meget bra. 92p

Sunday hangout (socially distanced) (Chicago, IL): Reasonably approachable for a 2005 red Burgundy. This isn't too dense and tannic, but it does have some nice earthy notes to supplement the predominantly black fruit here. Quite a few tannins, but nothing obtrusive.

magnum format, a little soft / less-full-bodied than expected given it is an '05... OK but not great for this vintage, for me not a rebuy... paid $210 for the magnum

Nose is all NSG, body and palate, however, much more elegant...approaching Chambolle. DeMontille's restraint is showcased nicely here, although some might complain of lack of fruit. Overall impression is balance, purity, elegance and restraint. What I want in red Burg.

Medium to light in colour with a lovely floral nose. Medium weight and frisky on the palate with crunchy red fruit flavours. Lots of mineral notes too. Fairly racy for a Nuits-St-Georges and if I had been tasting this blind I really don't think I would have placed this as a 2005 and certainly not a NSG. The characteristics of 2005 in general are rich and full reds, whereas this example is more about freshness and purity and even after 14 years it is full of youthful exuberance and energy. A very good wine and there's no hurry to drink up. Estimated maturity Now-2025+

This has pretty more earth-inflcted raspberry and rhubarb fruit notes. It's not a particularly dense wine, though it finishes with firmer, more long-grained tannins. There's a saline quality throughout. I expect I'll like this more in a few years, but it's enjoyable enough now.

Very aromatic right from the start, storms out of the glass, generous and voluptuous body. Strawberries and wild raspberries, the fruit is sort of vegetal but also sweet, hard to describe. Stems, iron, forest floor and semi-matured rhubarb. Excellent and complex. The palate shows dark berries, more like cherries now. A bit of spearmint, herbs and moist leaves. Lots of power and structure, still very young and only just entering a first phase of maturity. Good acidity. Fine tobacco in the aftertaste with rising temperature and more time in the glass. I reallly like this, drinks well now but there's much more to come from this silky yet powerful NSG.

Tasted at Ben's dinner. At a closed stage. Rather muted on the nose. Some berries on the palate, but again tight. Not much complexity coming through at the moment. Needs time but not sure about potential.

This has really evolved since previous tasting. Tannin has resolved quite a bit, continues to change in the glass over the course of the evening, no barnyard this time, tobacco instead, knitting together nicely.
Dry and tight with still some nice fruit - red predominantly, including strawberries for me. Not bad but did expect more. Try in 2 more years to see if opens up a bit.

Smakstart pĺ Sturköbaren: Complex, developed nose, with a reassuringly traditional expression. Stemmy notes of tobacco and spice, dark-spectrum fruit, hints of iodine, meat and rusty iron, plus very light brett with band-aid, leather and farmyard aromas. Harmonious and elegant on the palate, with the power and structure from a great vintage. Drinks really well already, and will keep. de Montille's classical style usually hits our sweet-spot.

The nose is not very intense even after 5 hours of decantation.
Coffee, tannins, a lot of cherrries, black currant and dark rasberries. Some bitter oak that is not integrated yet. This wine is still tight and the flavorprofile is a bit boring even though the wine is completely open.

This was a truly outstanding bottle of wine. Deep in color. The wine has a phenomenal soft mouthfeel - the body of the wine seems full even though at the same time it seems almost weightless in your mouth. The flavors are rich and mature yet very clean - I think this is definitely in its window right now. Wish I had more of this.
Popped, breathed in bottle 90 minutes, followed over next two hours. Fabulous nose. Would have been happy just to sniff all night. Layers of red fruit, leather, earth, saline, with a wonderful hint of Burgundy barnyard and a firm, but refined tannic finish that softened over the course of the evening.
Dark ruby red. Lovely nose that opens with black-cherry tart and vanilla, then reveals an iron-rich meatyness. Flavoursome and precise with youthful fine tannins, fresh raspberry and a subtle smoked meat flavour.
