Five years after my first note and this wine overall has aged well. It was part of a vertical of 06-10 Dr. L and this is the sweetest of the bunch with notes of stone fruit, pear and citrus. The sweetness has light acid/minerals to balance but not quite in check. Drinking well now and while I don't see it improving should last through its 10th birthday.

A nearly white wine with a tart nose with faint hints of a fizz that do not appear on the palate. A bit like a granny smith apple soaked in peach juice. Quite light and airy, though with enough cut to be noticed and a nice fit for food with a bite. 8.5% alcohol.

This wine smells of tropical fruit and tastes like biting into a granny smith apple. Slightly sweet with good acidity. A nice light riesling that goes with just about anything. Nice.
note: As with some other labels, this wine is being entered under 2 names here at CellarTracker. No offence, but I prefer the other designation "Loosen Bros. Dr. L Riesling" as the name Riesling Bros does not appear on the label of this wine, and that's where I have listed my stock. Although I do like to come and visit to see what this side is saying. Good riesling for the $8 paid, for sure. However, we have been drinking a lot of riesling from the Rheingau (e.g., Johanishof Charta) and we find those to be much more versatile food wines, a bit less sweet and more complex.

A very simple, boring, one-dimensional wine. Certainly inexpensive, but a slightly higher tariff allows for monumentally better rieslings. Fruit dominates, and acid is a bit lacking, even lower than other recent vintages, leading to an unbalanced sweetness on the finish. An okay basic Mosel.

Pale straw color, very light in the glass. On the nose there's melon and pineapple, with spice and lime/limeade; on the palate pineapple and honey flavors dominate, with moderate acid but not quite enough to walk the knife-edge balance against the richness of fruit that is so exhilarating in fancier examples. While this wine is not complex or evolving, it is cleanly made, and exactly to purpose: a simple $10 quaffer that gives the main themes (admittedly not in the optimal proportions, and not in the full range of complexity) of what Mosel Riesling is about. That said, I feel that with a small tweak -- just a little more acid -- the whole package could be significantly more alluring.

Aromas of pear and apple, with a refreshing crisp acidity on the quite short finish. Quite balanced for a riesling at this price point. The chilled wine started off quite well, but faded to mere sugar water as the wine warmed to room temperature. This wine must be drunk at a serving temp no higher than 50F.

We've already gone through a half case of this and the summer isn't even half over. It goes very well with melon and prosciutto, peaches, or crackers and a nice simple goat cheese. Lovely refreshing crisp sweet citrus flavor with a clean finish. Nothing profound here but a very pleasant summer sipper. This is a great value and can be found for under $9/btl.

'Unscrewed' and poured. Pale gold in the glass. Lychee fruit and minerality on the nose follows through nicely on the palate. Nice full palate here with some light spritz and good acidity to cut the sweetness. Very interesting dried apricot characteristic on the late palate which persists nicely. Not incredibly complex here, but the QPR on this thing is outstanding. This is a perfect example of why I love to buy Riesling off the shelf. Is it a wine that can be ruined? I know it can be, but this wine kicks for $11, and it is not alone. When you're standing there in the supermarket because you are on your way to your buddy's hot girlfriend's 'dinner party' and you are a schmuck and forgot to grab something good from your cellar, and you are scratching your a** in doubt because all the supermarket plonk is crap, grab a Riesling! Might as well make it this one. Nice wine here. Medium length. Community score is too low.

While this lacked a huge blossom of fruity and floral notes, the structure was incredibly solid, well-balanced and an obvious good value. Moderate-to-light sweetness is deftly balanced by crisp, light acidity. Nice stuff.

Discovering Wine: The Dr. L Riesling is pale yellow, showing hints of effervescence, with a light body. The nose is reticent with slight floral scents and hints of green apple. Tastes of white peach and apple fill the mouth for this off-dry and effervescent wine. The wine has peach and apple on a short finish. A very flamboyant wine, but not much complexity.

Very good quality price ratio. Light bodied well balanced wine. The initial sweetness is counter balanced by a good acidity. Floreal on the nose, the mouth is dominated by tropical fruits and, above all, apple. Good every day wine for curry (had it with thai green curry) if you don't dig gewurztraminer.

Screw-cap. Rather fruit forward and perhaps not as zingy as I would prefer. Slightly off-dry. Good mid-palate persistence. Lacks grace but still a very distinctive Mosel Riesling made for early drinking. Good quality for its level.

Opens with some sulfur on the nose, followed by honey, sweet orange juice, and dried apricot. Effervescent on the palate, showing more honey, orange peel, and melon. Juts enough acid at the end to keep this from being too sweet, finishing with some lemon. Great QPR, and continues to deliver year after year.

This one continues to amaze me for its excellent quality and great price. It continues to be my go to wine with Thai food. The 2009 vintage of Dr. L might just be the best vintage yet. Great integration between sweet, acidity and slate.

Like a bowl of pear, peach and a little tangerine but with the pear and peach skins mixed in. Then a lemon squeezed on top. Crisp acidity. Nothing complex. Varietally correct. Pretty much delivers what you'd expect without knocking your socks off.

Pleasing Riesling that works great with a wide variety of foods. The stone fruits don't do much more than suggest sweetness--this is actually fairly dry. The wine is propelled by its stellar acidity and minerality that is admirable for this level. This won't win any awards for complexity--and it doesn't have the ethereal weightlessness that makes great Riesling so magical--but who cares for $12......

Drank after Thanksgiving dinner slightly chilled. Likewise to 2008 I had prior, just a notch below & a bit sweeter. Pale yellow hue. Aromas of green apple, lime, mango & fine mineral. Palate is sweet & fruity.

The nose is overwhelmingly lemon/lime, but also a subtle stone aroma. There is a bit more residual sugar on the body than the outstanding '08 vintage of this wine, but despite the sweetness, the underlying flavors (same as the nose) are extremely pure. Good acidity and a nice finish. Extremely fresh now, but I think this has the potential to get more elegant with age. At only 8.5% ABV, it's very easy to drink the whole bottle in one sitting :)

Clear core to a straw rim. On the nose: Peaches, green apple, honey with a bit of green vegetation. On the palate: First hit is significant citrus, primarily lime and some lemon, and sour/granny smith apple. Mid palate moves to peaches, tangerine and slate. Pretty short finish. Not nearly as well balanced as the 2008, which I thought was excellent, but still not bad for the money.

Clear with lite viscosity in the glass. Closed nose of honey, citrus and fuzzy fruit. A thick slab of residual sugar with lychee, citrus and apple tart on the palate. Short finish. Simple and super sweet.
