More expensive than my last bottle which I think was a little shut down. The nose is a little dumb at first. The palate shows a cool core of red fruits. Still some firmness to the finish. On day 2, the fruits are richer and the tannins firmer. For me, this wine does not Ferrell like it is on the down slope. I would expect this to improve further, but alas, this is my last bottle.

Initially a bit of funk on the nose, red fruited nose of red cherry, and some vegetal notes. Flavors of strawberry, red cherry, and some slight vegetal notes. After about an hour start to get notes of pencil shavings. Wine tastes ever so slightly past it’s prime, but still enjoyable, no tannins, mild to moderate acidity, short finish. Paired well with strip steak.

Second wine of Ch. Rauzan-Segla. A perennial favourite. Medium bodied, ruby red with very slight thinning at the rim. Medium alcohol - faint legs. Initial nose of earth, purple flowers, red and black fruits, slight smokiness. Quite dry, leather, red fruit, dried cherry, cranberry and tart acidity. Grainy tannins. Bitterness on the finish. Slightly hollow on the mid palate and a moderate finish. Probably fading. Seems like not enough quality fruit to balance out the rest of the elements.

I agree with the previous reviewers in terms of tasting notes, aromas etc - there is actually not much going on here in terms of structure; even considering that it's a second wine, still, the label 'Segla' raises expectations that this wine cannot deliver. It's not a bad wine for sure, but not really anything to write about. I know the comparison might be unfair, yet over dinner last night it was blown out of the water with every sip by a $25 pure Sangiovese Vino Nobile 2011. I don't think it was a bad bottle - rather beyond its peak. I might be wrong or biased (although I do have a French passport!), but I am starting to see a broader theme here where, apart from the best Grand Cru, quality pure Sangiovese (BDM, CC, VN) gives Bordeaux a run for its money any time these days. Drink up in 2017, this is not going to get any better.

Some toasted oak and sweet dark fruit nose. Medium to full body with a very soft mouthfeel and tannins that are well integrated. Very drinkable with nice fruit showing through. Pretty finish. Could use a bit more structure on the mid to late palate, maybe past her prime or not stored perfectly? Still enjoyable with my sirloin. My bottle showed the low acidity referenced in some other notes but did not show a strong tannic character - quite the opposite on this bottle.

Medium ruby with a thin clear rim. Fairly subdued nose with hints of red currant, dried cherries and perhaps a touch of VA? Entry is tart crunchy red berries, mellowing and softening a bit through the mid palate with some astringency on the moderately long and dry finish. Seems a bit sour and dried out. Likely past its prime.

Better on the second day. Strawberry jam and dark berries on the nose, a bit jammy and tannic on the palate. Perhaps will improve with some more time in bottle?

Very green, herbal, closed up, definitely needs some air. Soft plush tannins, nice acidity. Maybe with more air the fruit will come through but for now hard to get past all the green elements, maybe a product of the vintage.

(Decanter Fine Wine Event): A decent wine, leaning very much on the savoury spectrum. Quite big on bell peppers, leather, tobacco. Sweet and structured tanins, med acidity. Don't wait too long to drink.

Superb for a second wine in an under-rated vintage. This has quite a reticent nose, but it glides over the palate like a cashmere scarf, and really is a class act.

Second label of Rauzan-Segla. Tasted from half bottle. 54/41/4/1 Cab/Merlot/Petit Verdot/Cab Franc. 18-20 months 50% new oak. Fresh nose for Bordeaux, light cedar, graphite, dark fruit. Palate shows modern style, red/dark fruit layers, some cassis, graphite. Not as much earth as you might expect. Good wine for New World drinkers.

Rauzan-Segla Masterclass with John Kolasa (Caveau Wine & Bar, Shaw): Alcohol :: 13.5% Lovely aromati here, light rose perfume, tobacco leaves, sour plum and even dark chocolate. Medium bodied, still pretty backward as the tannin structure dominating the palate with some oak, but still, the overall e press ion is delicate and soft but doesn't of the intensity of a good 2nd wine. Slightly savory tailing at the long, lingering finish with excellent focus and freshness. Lovely. 87

An enjoyable wine but again 2008 not doing it for me. No tannic structure at all, and some boozy heat on the palate. Last Segla I enjoyed was the '03, which was lush, highly aromatic, and lived up to expectations one would have for a second wine from an esteemed chateau. Maybe this will get better but I doubt it.

Alcohol :: 13.5% Vibrant medium ruby red. Blackberry, plum, tangerine, intense floral on the nose. Fresh, vibrant, bright red and dark fruits, capsicum, dark chocolate and lots of mineral that supported by firm, low-medium level of tannin. Very fresh, polished and intense, good medium length finish wth roasted coffee bean aftertaste. Not bad but lack a bit of lushness compared to the 2009.

Quite plummy and acidic, although got better after being open for a couple of hours and with food. Has a touch of bitterness at the end.
