More expensive than my last bottle which I think was a little shut down. The nose is a little dumb at first. The palate shows a cool core of red fruits. Still some firmness to the finish. On day 2, the fruits are richer and the tannins firmer. For me, this wine does not Ferrell like it is on the down slope. I would expect this to improve further, but alas, this is my last bottle.

Initially a bit of funk on the nose, red fruited nose of red cherry, and some vegetal notes. Flavors of strawberry, red cherry, and some slight vegetal notes. After about an hour start to get notes of pencil shavings. Wine tastes ever so slightly past it’s prime, but still enjoyable, no tannins, mild to moderate acidity, short finish. Paired well with strip steak.

Second wine of Ch. Rauzan-Segla. A perennial favourite. Medium bodied, ruby red with very slight thinning at the rim. Medium alcohol - faint legs. Initial nose of earth, purple flowers, red and black fruits, slight smokiness. Quite dry, leather, red fruit, dried cherry, cranberry and tart acidity. Grainy tannins. Bitterness on the finish. Slightly hollow on the mid palate and a moderate finish. Probably fading. Seems like not enough quality fruit to balance out the rest of the elements.

I agree with the previous reviewers in terms of tasting notes, aromas etc - there is actually not much going on here in terms of structure; even considering that it's a second wine, still, the label 'Segla' raises expectations that this wine cannot deliver. It's not a bad wine for sure, but not really anything to write about. I know the comparison might be unfair, yet over dinner last night it was blown out of the water with every sip by a $25 pure Sangiovese Vino Nobile 2011. I don't think it was a bad bottle - rather beyond its peak. I might be wrong or biased (although I do have a French passport!), but I am starting to see a broader theme here where, apart from the best Grand Cru, quality pure Sangiovese (BDM, CC, VN) gives Bordeaux a run for its money any time these days. Drink up in 2017, this is not going to get any better.

Quite plummy and acidic, although got better after being open for a couple of hours and with food. Has a touch of bitterness at the end.
