A really pretty nose. Loamy earth, undergrowth, cherry fruit, roses and some subtle meatiness-iron on the nose. This has depth and material delivered with a delicate touch. On the palate there's a lovely mix of savory, fruit and soil. It's structured yet not bulky and really well balanced. With the soft entry and front end texture, there were surprisingly firm fine tannins on the back end. Drinking at peak with time in hand.
Initial guesses was 01 Chambolle based on the nose and front end, pretty red fruits and soft entry, then the back end firmness and hidden structure I changed to 01 really good elegant producer Gevrey, then back again to 2001 Chambolle, because I usually regret going away from my first guess. Really good classically proportioned Burgundy.

A bottle I had given as a gift years ago. Earthy, rustic red fruit. A touch toast and tannic on the palate. Solid finish. This btl tasted younger than I expect from.an 01.

Medium Dark red color. PNP, split bottle over 4 hours plus. Drank up on the North Shore. Classic burg with lots of iron and blood and spice, somewhat rustic, dark cherry, red currants, medium bodied with rose hips, dried earth and grainy tannins.

-- decanted 45 min before initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over 2 to 3 hours --
NOSE: high-toned and red-fruited; autumnal (tertiary); delicate; moderately expressive.
BODY: garnet color with bricking throughout; color is of light to medium-light concentration/depth; medium-light bodied.
TASTE: high, but gentle, acidity; strong spicy florals; cool red fruits, intermixed with those floral scents; a pleasant underlying savory aspect; elegant; smooth; likely not getting better from here; slightly tart; seems to be in its prime window, and not in the front end of that window, either; an excellent wine, but not bombastic; rather, this is simply well-put-together, has all of its T's crossed and I's dotted --- everything is "in the right place" --- a Goldilocks wine, if you will. Drink Now and over the near term. Ash gut impression score: 93.

Tasted blind. This was zestier than the 2001 Faiverley Cazetiers we tasted alongside it. Red fruited with strawberry and cherry, although it came across as more one-dimensional to me. With air, it picked up some raspberry and some tang, but I preferred the Faiveley.

blind: thought the entire flight was older Cali Cabernet
Sandalwood note had me thinking the other might be on to something with Nebbiolo. I did not know, I don't drink much red burg and certainly not with any age. Good education for the next time

Served blind by Ramon. Really enjoyed the bright nose on this. Stewed fruit, some spices, sous bois, and moderate tannins. Easy to drink. Surprised by the reveal! Didn't place it in Chambertin. D'oh!

2020 New Year's Day Tasting $150-$250 Double Blind (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Paler ruby with orange rim; wilting roses, plum, some musk, meaty, elegant, resolved, late grip, wood?, almost ferrous note, very good; nice to drink Burg with a little more age; my backup after corked Geantet Pansiot Charmes.

Deep garnet, ruby core. Grand cru density and gravitas, but somewhat disciplinarian. It’s not a friendly, giving bottle, though probably proper for purists. A steely spine dominates. Good rather than great. ***1/2

Nice nose of strawberries, red cherries, ripe berries, and sous bois. Good acidity with medium tannins and flavors of tart cherries, blood orange, and cedar on the palate. Nice finish. Quite fresh and young, although a tiny bit ripe. Great value Burgundy, though.

Good deep colour. Fine cherry stone zest, pure refined, lightly spicy, quite floral. Sour cherry, damson, chalky tannins, plenty of acidity. Comes across a little tart, but the fruit flavours are bright, and the spice lifts it.

Much like the last bottle, light red with watery rim. Secondary/tertiary aromas of faded red fruit, undergrowth, menthol, and soil. Light to medium body, crisp acidity, briary fruit, and a lot of soil. Satisfying, cool, rather delicate mature Burgundy that is the antithesis of "fruit driven". Very Gevrey in character, but it is hard to argue that this particular bottle showed Grand Cru depth or nuance, even accounting for the vineyard.

A much better showing than my previous bottle. Drank next to a 90 Faiveley Clos des Cortons for comparison. Nose showed some vanilla and a hint of toast, but rustic red fruit and more earth. On the palate, a bit clunky, but a touch of game and red fruit. Loads of graint tannin on the finish.

A good not great bottle, this is fully mature and probably was better 4 or 5 years ago but I just recently purchased this as an ex-cellar release. Fading tawny color, mature Burg nose of stewed red fruited secondary and tertiary notes. A nice mature Burgundy that is drinking older than a lot of other 01's I've had recently. Not a bad wine by any means, enjoyable for sure, but lacking in Grand Cru stature. I got a tout tonight to buy more for $150 per, a great price for ex-cellar GC juice these days, and I passed.

Drinking at its peak. Solid ruby, no sign of age. Nose is gorgeous, delicately pretty, with pretty red fruit. In the mouth, all tannin resolved. A little austere at first, the wine has filled out nicely with air. Now, pretty red fruit. Good finish. 5-13-16-8: 92/100.

Light red with maturing, fading edge. Secondary perfume, ferrous scents, and herbs. Lighter weight that grew and became more sappy with air. Again, in the mouth subtle dried red fruits, some spice, and a bit of stems. In the end, quite silky feel. A cool, discrete, almost fully mature wine. These "lesser" Gevrey Grand Crus don't bowl you over but can certainly impress and satisfy if you invest some attention and time. Excellent wine.

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs -ruby core mild bricking -full-on sousbois sweet earth cherry stewed tomato -med/med+ acidity provides a nice lift that kicks in with an almost explosive salty note on the finish, med weight moderately sappy with diffuse sweet earthy mature flavors, med tannins remain to give an authenticating mildly rustic note -cruising along in full maturity, a bit burly in character if not in weight, not terribly complex but really like the firework finish

Clear pale garnet. Clean nose of medium minus intensity with aromas cranberry, eucalyptus, flint, lavender, chocolate, leather. Wine is developing. On the palate it dry with medium plus acidity, medium minus tannins, medium alcohol, medium minus body. Medium flavor intensity of wet stone, cranberry, bitter chocolate, dried cherries, mushrooms. Finish is medium minus. Good wine. Drink now or age further. Very poor QPR: I was expecting a lot more from 18 year old Grand Cru: more intensity, complexity and I found none!!!!

Slightly rustic showing on the nose, which didn't seem to show grand cru character. On the palate, more of the same: rustic red fruit, not very earthy...didn't really show much Gevrey (though a solid PN with spiced red fruit)...rustically styled tannin on the finish.
Medium ruby, subtle nose of high-toned red fruit, earth, and violets, bright but balanced on the attack followed by complex waves of ripe red fruit, earth, iron and dusty tannins, rolling finish with cherry, earth, mineral streaks, pomegranate, touches of spice, more earth and on and on it goes, a very Burgundian burgundy indeed, all depth and no fat

Exquisite! Very elegant and light, with notes of red berry, vanilla and oak. Firm acid which may be hiding some of the complexity and depth - this wine is early in the drinking window, but very pleasurable.

PnP and slow ox in glass before dinner. Semi translucent red with slight ambering on edges. Sous bois, soil and light funk on the nose. Sous bois and an array of soil, mineral, tart cherry and spice carry over to a mature palate that seems to be at its plateau with little reason to further age. I really enjoyed this wine and noticed that it was smoother & richer with food than my stand alone sips. Only things missing here is the finesse and refinement of a higher end producer like Rousseau and Trapet. A lot of fun and one of those great single btl, semi producer direct purchases you can get from Envoyer. I'm always reluctant to go deep on these and most of the time they turn out to be great fun. Paid $90.

Promising and pleasingly developed nose with dark fruit and decaying flowers, mushroom, but just a scarce hint of spice and Gevrey game. This has the tight, deceptively tired palate of a closed Burgundy with some oxidation notes. Finally 6 hours after opening a wonderful limpid clarity appears. Still quite reserved but nonetheless delivering a Real Burgundy Experience (tm) with beautiful decaying/dried flowers and incense notes. This needs another 3+ years, but alas I do not have more.
