medium to full bodied still. Only a trace of the cherry fruit and pepper it had previously. Clearly on the downside of the curve but still pleasurable. My last bottle of this wine.

Still absolutely stunning. Old-school Chateauneuf-du-Pape, light and vertical. Funky, notes of farm and leather, cool fruited, herbs, earthy. Great deal of complexity but still so easy and enjoyable to drink. In the sweet spot right now.

Light browny brick, very mature farmyard on the nose, sweet earthy farmyard palate, light to medium weight, delicious. Drink now; The wine has nowhere else to go.

The best of the trio of 2000 Châteauneufs. Funky nose, animal notes. Super cool fruit, stony minerality, same mold as the 1994 Beaucastel from the other evening. Elegant, delicious wine. This was the only bottle of the 3 that was emptied on the night.

What a treat: Tasted vis-avis the 2000 Marcoux and Les Cailloux, this comes out the wine with a cool minerality, vertical style, garrigue, Southern barnyard, sweet Grenache, complete neuf. #PB

This is fully mature, and drinking very well, as it has developed a complex perfume of old leather, earth, dry herbs, spice and red fruit that is carried on a light to medium bodied frame with just sufficient structure to hold it together. It seems unlikely that there is further upside potential, but I see no reason to think it will decline any time soon.

No reason to wait any longer with this wine, perfectly mature with brown fruit flavors, olives and garrigue. Traditional Chateauneuf, well proportioned, balanced and very enjoyable. Bon.

PNP and a bit austere at this point as this fruit has faded...more of the bramble and garrigue and not much sweet Grenache...perhaps with more time and air it would have come round

Opened about 4 hrs before drinking. Initially concerned as the fruit seemed to have faded significantly but over the course of the meal it opened nicely. Second day the remaining 1 1/2 glasses had opened beautifully. Red to black fruit, well integrated tannins, bramble overtones.

Faded and showing mostly berry notes until it opened to an explosive brambly fruit an earth symphony. Surprisingly good for its age and how it started. Nice, but subtle nose and finish. It could last a few more years but I wouldn't wait.

More red-fruited than usual for Mont-Olivet, gentle and spiced with wonderful provencal flavors. I don't get much of the black olive flavor I usually get in Mont-Olivet but that's okay. Very young showing. Good stuff.

Served blind, after Rayas 2002. Dark color, very little signs of evolution. Nose was closed, which made guessing CdP a challenging task. In the mouth the wine is big but smooth, tannins have blended. A generic CdP, somewhat simple after the exuberance of Rayas.

Black berries, mushrooms, humus. A bit closed at this time but this is very nice. In the mouth the wine is medium powerfull, round with soft tannins that are evolved and offer good pleausre. Nice length. A nice Châteauneuf du Pape.

Transparent brick red. Popped and poured into a Schott Zwiesel red Burgundy glass. This has a wonderful nose of grenache that has developed secondary characteristics. Sort of like sweet tea with some sous bois underneath. Soft tannins, some subtle red fruit flavors, tea, very smooth, medium bodied. Nice finish. Not a powerhouse, but very tasty. Rather elegant. Drink up. This wine is beginning a graceful decline.

We were very happily surprised by this wine on a work day Tuesday evening. Must have been drinking at its peak with wonderfully soft tannins, a complex dark-fruit-predominant nose, and a wonderful tart cherry finish. All elements seemed fully integrated and working in harmony, making this an excellent food wine.

Elegant and not very typical C9dP. Lovely!

It's been a year since my last bottle. I am slightly more positive now. It has taken on weight and color, is now deeper and denser. Flavors are coming out more expressively now. My guess is it hits its peak in a couple years and stays there for 5 or so.

After a note posted last week, I thought I would try one of these since I have 3 left. Very Pinot like in color. No amber or browning at the rim, although it is transparent. Muted nose with a hint of bitter orange, red fruits, stones. This wine has some power to it and there is clearly influence from grapes other than grenache(Syrah). Tannins are fairly firm. Red and blue fruits albeit subdued, minerals, leather, but not much in the way of provencal herbs.Nice finish.

Deep garnet with a small quanitity of very fine sediment. The nose is pleasant if a bit underwhelming. In the mouth, this sports cranberries, dried raspberries, and Darjeeling on the front end before offering a more savory note reminiscent of roast beef and dried thyme on the back. Ends with a peppery, medium length finish.
I've had a few of these over the past 5 years and, to my palate, it was best at 6-7 years from vintage when the fruit was a bit fresher and nicely balanced with the other elements.

I threw this into a decanter 1/2hr before dinner - should have given it more time to come out of its shell. Medium red, almost pinot'ish color to begin with, then getting darker with air. Restrained and introvert wine the first 1/2hr or so, with a hint of bright red fruit and not much more. This is a young wine. Opening up with air, showing classic Mont-Olivet flavors of cherry fruit, black olives, bay laurel and truffles. The fruit is surprisingly fresh and sappy. Not as muscular and big as other CdPs, but I like that. Excellent showing. As opposed to pknut, I've never had problems with aging Mont-Olivet but I stopped buying the wines from here when I learned they hired Cambie as a consultant. Why an earth would they do that. One knows there is the potential for more upfront, easy-going, flashy wines in the future. I don't need that.

Brick-red colour. Beautiful, fresh scent of red fruit and earthly undertones. Secondary aromas with clear, developped fruit, mainly strawberries and a touch of black currant. Medium bodied, acidity nicely balancing the fruit. Long aftertaste. A delikate wine that drinks perfect now.

Begins rather autumnal, dried fruits, leaves and undersbrush, although the wine itself is not dried out and there is still sweet fruit at the center. There is still a core of tannin, but outside the core the tannins have smoothed out. This wine is less vigorous than six months ago, and seems to be at a plateau. Probably a few good years left at this plateau, but I don't see it getting significantly better. B/B+

Very classic and pure CdP. Lots of fresh spiced strawberry, minerality and dried herbs. Nicely balanced in a mid-weight package. Excellent sap with a clean and lingering finish. Not a blockbuster, but very authentic and confident wine. Has the structure to hold longer, but the fruit seems ready to go.

Good nose of CdP spices, autumnal character. Smooth palate, tannins fully soft, bit of brown sugar, baking spices. Good CdP character, smooth and mature but not old, far from dried out. Will hold for a few years longer, but drinking nicely now and probably in its prime. Definitely ready and pleasing, though not overly powerful or compelling.
