Decanted and drank over two days. Reticent nose at first, opens a bit after a lot of air, a bit more open on day 2. Black fruit, secondaries not yet coming through, medium tannin. Drinkable but better to wait another year. Other bottles were a little more open than this one.

Brought this to my close friend from the University days' place for a gathering with our fellow University mates. It was a combined Christmas celebration and a farewell to her current residence.
Dark purple in colour with beautiful aromatics on the nose. Fragrant bouquet coupled with fresh plums, blueberries, French toast, licquorice, and forest floor. Drinking this wine now reminds the drinker of a walk along the streams in the gardens in early spring, with the earth coming back to life and pockets of surprise awaits the patient.
What was exceptional about the wine is that little decanting is required, and all the elements are in their place with the wine hitting all the right notes. The 2011 has been touted as an early drinking vintage (and rightfully so), but based on this wine it is a highly underrated one as well.

If I had any apprehension or confusion as to whether this was a keeper or drinker, last night's showing cleared my head. All I can say is wow! So beautifully pungent and earthy, so balanced, so serious and so long...From the bouquet to the finish, this wine screamed Bordeaux. Wow as a 2011, wow for the modest price of Malescot, and wow as a Bordeaux period. Drink with 60 minute plus decant for best showing. It can hold, but no need to miss this. It is totally in the zone.
Brought to room temperature from 58-F cellar, decanted three hours, drank over three days. Reticent on day one, very little giving to the nose, some fruit on the palate, along with medium+ tannin and acidity. Day two a little fruit and tar on the nose, tannin and acidity present but not overly so. Day three, black fruit and forest floor on the nose, that along with mushroom and graphite on the palate, these flavors behind the tannin and acidity which at this point has integrated. 92 on day three. I will hold the rest for a year, and give a very long decant.

Checking in on many of my 11's now. This one has always had me wondering how it went overlooked. This has clearly been a Bordeaux since day 1 and my favorite in its price range in 2011 (rounding 50 bucks)... It does need a good decant but its not shy to show its pungent earth, tobacco, and coffee notes. A proper, overlooked Margaux. Plenty of life left in this wine, but I think its just great now. Drink

This is elegant and beautiful. To get there, a major decant is needed. This wine was decanted poured through a Venturi x 2. It never stopped improving. These should drink well after another few years and last at least 10 years after that.....
A well balanced and very drinkable Bordeaux. Nice fruit, plum and cherry, balanced tannins that enhance the taste and a hint of pleasant iodine. Had with filet foe Valentine's Day. At its peak, so drink up or hold to be an "old lady" soft Bordeaux in a decade.

I’ve been on a roll these past few months with Bordeaux and continue to enjoy these classic clarets. This one showed elements of black currant, violet, cigar box. A supple mouth makes it easy to drink and the long finish allows you to savor it.

An easy afternoon with close friends. (@ My place): Creamy bouquet with dark berries, sweet licorice, vanilla and a pleasant touch of barnyard. On the palate dark berries, some graphite and licorice, creamy fruits, a hint of celery, good acidity, tannin and length. Beautiful wine in its early maturity stage and with a future until at least 2028.

Poured at a dinner party and it was a HUGE hit! Beautifully balanced right now. Fruit/coffee/leather ... all the best Bordeaux characteristics. Nice medium long finish. Amazed how well MSE did in this off-vintage. If points were based on QPR this would be a 97!

Primary color. Blackberry and cedar aromas. Silky black currants, blackberry, chocolate and tobacco flavors. Clean, medium finish. Very fine indeed. I tried this EP and it's all still there and it has become more layered and interesting. This was in a good place. 92
Tobacco heaven to start, tannic and satisfying. Always a pleasure to open one of these beautiful Margaux wines that sing the soft, clear Bordeaux tone. I thought this was as good as always, but outclassed by the 2012 Lichine by a long shot. The Lichine 2012 was the surprise of the night and wowed everyone. Drink

2021 Bordeaux Tasting Trip; 7/12/2021-7/16/2021 (Bordeaux): A Bordeaux tasting in Bordeaux of 71 wines, some of the best I have ever had and others umm well disappointing. If you read the Tasting story (and my grading history) I think it will do a much better job putting this in perspective.
This was tasted at the chateau with the 2018. First and foremost I cannot thank Lea enough for her time, honesty transparency and passion she shared with us throughout. I am a big fan of MSE now that I know a lot more in-depth about the wine - and it was the best 2011 I have ever had and honestly the only one I would look forward to drinking and would buy.
The other 2011s tasted on this trip paled greatly in comparison. This wine had it all, and I would never have guessed 2011 Margaux or 2011 in general.
It is in a perfect window for my palate with plenty of fruit and secondary flavors that just started the beginning notes of tertiary flavors with velvety tannins. Great wine right now with minimal decant (quick decant or let it open in the glass).
Deeply colored. Blackberry and vanilla aromas. Black currants, chocolate and graphite predominate the palate. Very enjoyable. May still have some upside. 91

Been a while...We are definitely in tobacco country now. Lots of big tobacco notes with that wonderful balance of decaying fruit that comes across as night flowers just before the chalky finish. I liked this when I bought it in quantity on release, and like it now. Still young...Drink or Hold

An easy afternoon with close friends (@ My place): Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, vanilla and pleasant rustic flavors. On the palate juicy dark berries, chocolate, laurel, licorice, some metal, good acidity and tannin with a good bite. Beautiful wine with a good future of at least another 5 - 7+ years. 91 - 92

Dark purple in colour with leathery and coffee notes backup by small rounded berries and some cassis. Well made, well crafted and drinking well. Do give it 3 to 4 hours of decant if you can afford the time.

A noble effort in a terrible vintage. The 2011 is desperately missing structure and backbone. The alcohol is far too strong and overwhelms the palate. Super short finish. Drink this up as it is past its prime already.

Once again confirming the previous experiences and further to that, now, the pungent character is integrating throughout the wine, building it up to show earthier as a whole and more complex with gobs and gobs of mature but fresh fruit. The picking time of the fruit is spot on...loooooong finish. DRINK OR HOLD

For me, the 2011 vintage has produced some very nice wines at more affordable prices. This is one of them. This wine is drinking beautifully in its youth with an unmistakable bouquet of funk, minerals, and clay that makes most of us chase Bordeaux. Some of the flavors are those of red and black licorice, and scorched earth, intertwined with fresh ground coffee bean. Firm and approachable tannins give this wine a strong, lingering dry finish. I could see this drinking well for 10 years easy...

Nice nose of new funk /fresh fermentation , intertwined with cocoa. Full bodied, gaining weight in the glass with air. Rich in plum and cassis at opening with evolution into scorched earth and cocoa. Very nice wine considering the lack of respect for the vintage. Very good right now, and should be ripe in 5 years. At these prices, drink some here and there over the next 5 years and judge for yourself...

A solid wine in a diffcult vintage, deep in color, with licorice, coffee bean, black cherry, flowers and truffle in the perfume, the wine delivers soft, round textures, and a lush, round, slightly short finish. This should drink quite well on release and have the ability to improve with a few years of bottle age.

From an assemblage of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the alcohol reached 13.5%. With yields of 38% hectoliters per hectare, the wine will be aged in 100% new oak. With coffee, truffle, tobacco, licorice, blackberry, vanilla and black cherry liqueur in the nose, this supple, round, polished wine offers sweet black cherry and chocolate in the round finish. 91-93 Pts
