Medium crimson with slight bricking in color. Red and black fruits, spice, and dried flower notes all emerge from the glass, and follow on to the palate. Drinking very well right now. I am glad I have one left.

Appearance: Clear, medium garnet with slight edge browning. Nose: Clean, medium intensity with developed aromas of dried cherry, cranberry, brown sugar, cinnamon, and new leather - subtle but intriguing. Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium- tannin, medium+ intensity, medium body, 14.5% abv with flavors of dried cherry, tobacco, brown sugar, and cinnamon with a medium+ finish.
This was opened with 2 glasses poured on day 1 and then stored in a temperature controlled Somm du Vin for 3 nights. I honestly expected this to be DOA on day 4, but it held up remarkably well. While I believe this is fully mature today, it has enough stuffing to drink well for another year or two.
Imbibed as part of a 4 year vertical of RR bottlings including 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2020. This was a few folks favorite, and some guessed it as older than the '06. Showed a bit more fruit and liveliness compared to the '06Fresh raspberry nose, with some tartness.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of birch, soapstone, black pepper and black cherries. Flavors of black cherries, black raspberries and plums. Medium to tart acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink now.

Last bottle of this vintage in my cellar. Compared to the bottle I reviewed on 13 FEB 22, this one was better integrated and had more complexity and brighter fruit. Mulberry, boysenberry, ripe plum, and a hint of strawberry. Tannins, acidity, and ethanol still barely noticeable. Very nice damp earth and savory mushroom component as well. Cedar and tobacco mostly on the nose. It's as if this bottle decided to give me all that it could muster in its sunset years as thanks for faithfully caring for it for a decade. Farewell, good friend.

It's definitely time to drink these up. Compared to my last bottle consumed in 2020, the fruit has gotten noticeably more pruny and the tannins are all but gone. The dried fruit component is not bad at all; in fact, it's somewhat intriguing-- fig, plum, mulberry. Nonetheless, it's a clear sign that there's not much life left. The tannins are essentially nonexistent, giving this wine a wet mouthfeel like a REAL martini made with 25% vermouth. The ethanol seems to have given itself to the "angels' share", as there was little to notice on the palate and a conspicuously absent sense of intoxication. Interestingly, and perhaps a result of all the above, I picked up some cedar and tobacco notes that, along with the dried fruit, reminded me of an aged Rioja Gran Reserva. I still give it a 90 because I am in the position of knowing how this wine has progressed over the years, and there is a certain deference owed to a California Pinot that has been drinking well for 11 years without being temperamental or "peaky".
I ate some lightly salted pistachios, home-grown salt-cured ripe olives, and gorgonzola cheese with this... tasty!

A subtle, complex, and beautifully made wine. Garnet color, light bouquet, and delicate fruit flavors. Despite the light body, it has a nice full feel in the mouth. Not sure if it lives up to all the hype as "wine of the year" but it is a very lovely wine.

solid. As expected, bigger pinot but age has calmed it a bit. Rasberry, and slightly stewed red fruit with some heat poking out on the finish. Last of my KBs - I'd say drink up if you have any as I fear the stewed fruit and heat will only become more apparent

Faintly spicy, floral nose. Initial bolus of tightly packed fruit: mostly strawberry, with comings and goings of mulberry and--no kidding--nectarine. The fruit core is smaller than it probably was a few years ago, at a time when this wine might even have been called "jammy" by some. The finish reveals the earth and spice: clove, cinnamon, mild mushrooms. Tannins are conspicuously absent, save for a faint softness that was probably a lush velvet a few years ago. Acidity is still noticeable, but EtOH is probably a lot less intense than it used to be.
Time to drink up. I don't envision this wine getting any better with time, only that it will probably get more muted with each passing day.
Conditions: cellared at 55F since day one, popped & poured at cellar temp, no food, after second glass and 1hr after uncorking. I may revisit the rest of the bottle tomorrow, as I suspect this wine will open up a bit.

Deep reddish-purple. A bit of cork on nose suggests something may be wrong. But brooding ripe cherry, some plume, woodsy, musky and earthy, a bunch of sous bois. A bit of spice on finish.

Ruby color. Plenty of red fruit, cherry and plum. Quickly transitions to some cola and vanilla with long finish. Excellent balance of tannin and acid as it fades. Good with our salmon, but good beforehand, too.
3/18/2021 The fruit is still great, and plenty of subtle, warm spices, but that finish is wonderful and just goes on forever.
5/6/2022 Cherry and root beer and that long finish. Just my style.

The nose was just amazing with jammy strawberry notes and darker berries. I also got burnt sugar or cream brûlée. Mostly strawberries on the pallet with some warm baking spices. Soft and silky tannins with med to longer finish. I'd give it a few more years to age but I enjoyed this so much.

The wine pours a deep ruby red and still showing some aging legs on the glass. On the nose you get the typical kosta Browne aromas of oak, raspberry, strawberry, and some earth. On the palate, the wine is smooth, silky and the tanins are slightly there. The wine coats the mouth and lingers on the finish with a slight kiss of oak. Just a delicious wine from my favorite Pinot noir producer

Reviewing my notes, we had this vintage back in March and didn’t like. Was apprehensive with this bottle. Decanted 2 hours and it was beautiful. Typical KB Russian River. Lot’s of light red juicy fruit with hints of cola and mild bits of earth. Paired with a smoked corned beef and made the meal. The wine wasn’t drowned out by the meat but didn’t overpower it. Delicious.

This bottle showed lots of cherry fruit. Yes there's cola, but it's in check and tastes good. Generally well built with a balance between fruit and spice. Better than a bottle I had three years ago.

Celebrating Marijean’s birthday with Julie and Steve at their house. Popped and poured, nice claret red color, nose of cherry, plum and rose petals. Smooth, nicely integrated with flavors of ripe raspberry, dark cherry and a hint of earthy mushroom and cola. Delicious RRV Pinot. Paired up with pan sautéed Florida grouper, roasted Brussels sprouts and rice pilaf. You might be rewarded with more resting time but there is no time like the present to drink this now!

Medium bodied. Ripe and sweet. Less aged than expected. Did not seem out of balance even though you could taste the higher alcohol. Loads of ripe dark cherry and dark strawberry fruit. Fine smooth tannins and a little acidity - almost like a dessert, some brown sugar on the finish.

Decanted for almost 2 hours. Aromas of sweet cherry, strawberry, roses and rhubarb. Flavors of strawberry, bing cherry, touch of earth and mushroom. Ends with a cherry infused finish of almost 30 seconds. Not quite as good as the last two me I had it but showed no signs of fading at this point.

Consumed over 2 days (vacuvined), note from day 2. Nose: Medium expressiveness, raspberry, cherry, baking spice, and bacon fat. Palate: Medium-full bodied, sweet dark red fruit and spice attack, solid acidic back-bone, back-end is dominated by spice and earthiness with red fruits taking a back-seat but still present. Finish: Medium length dominated by spicy red fruit and earth. Drinking well now but plenty of life left here, 5+ years.

Ruby red in color. 14.5% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, cola, cloves and nutmeg. Medium body with racy acidity. Silky on the palate with exceptional mouthfeel. Well balanced, plush and hedonistic. Flavors of cherries, cranberries, plums and baking spices. Tremendous length on the finish. Everything I adore about Kosta Browne. Drink over the next 2-3 years.

This is testament to the staying power and age worthiness of KB Pinots. This still presented lovely fruit although at this stage it was certainly wholly integrated with other elements of the wine. It still presented ample acidity to lift the drinking experience. Still presenting red and black fruits on both the nose and the palate. Very enjoyable and certainly approachable in every respect.

Lovely - last bottle. Developed over 3 hours. Lots of floral notes - better with food, but really excellent. One point better than first bottle. Not a lot further to go I would guess. After airing out, it has a very light, but well developed body. Almost burgundian. If my nose was better I could identify the floral elements - but they are really nice. Lavender ?

I drank the 2011 Sonoma Coast bottling yesterday which I clearly preferred. The Russian River bottling is nice as well, though. Compared to the SC, it is rounder and sweeter with less acidity. It has a slight hint of heat on the finish, although not enough to be of concern. Sweet jammy strawberry flavors compared to more cherry and higher acidity for the SC. P.S. The hint of heat was completely gone the next day after a night under vacuvin and the wine was considerably smoother and more integrated.

Solid RR valley Pinot but to be honest this really didn't do much for me. Bright ripe cherries and mild finish. Either this was opened way too young or it's just part of the weak 2011 vintage throughout the region. It just didn't do much for me.

Unlike other reviewers, we did not think this vintage drinks like a cab lover's pinot (other vintages, maybe, but not this one). Rather, we found it round, supple, coherent, and lovely. Also held up great to a food pairing of ravioli (spinach with ricotta and whole wheat with mushroom) topped with red sauce and sautéed spinach (and boatloads of parm, of course). Quite enjoyable.

A huge in your face Pinot very typical of the Kosta Browne style. Great wine that was many taster's 1st place in a blind Pinot flight of 5 heavy hitters. My only complaint is that this wine can be a little overpowering with sugar. A cab drinkers Pinot for sure.

Gave this 30 minutes of decant for before the restaurant. KB is a personal favorite, but this bottle showed a touch hot/astringent. Great florals on the nose. More red fruits than blue. Not much in the pumpkin/holiday spice area.

This was opened up to breathe a few hours prior to consumption. A very nice example of what a Russian River Valley Pinot can be. Nice tones of raspberry, cranberry, and other dark red berries with hints of vanilla cola - but not overwhelmingly so like some new world pinots. It had a touch of minerality. This certainly wasn’t the biggest Kosta Browne; however, it had a nice full bodied texture and a lengthy finish. Superb

Despite the uneven 2011 vintage found this Pinot Noir to be true to Kosta Browne form with its depth and length of finish. Good cherry fruit with hints of lavender and mushroom. Full bodied and expressive...fun to drink but must decant for at least an hour.
It smells like cranberry, cedar, light toast and cherry. The wine finishes long and tastes like cherry and hint of mushrooms. The wine looks ruby colored and there was no sediment in the bottle. The wine has polished texture. Amazing depth and complexity. Decanted for around 1hr and served at 65F. Outstanding.

Aromas of sarsaparilla, brown sugar, cherry, earth ad herb. On the palate, this has a bit of the same in terms of flavors. Ends with a very nice 25-30 second finish. Classic Kosta Browne from supposedly a weaker vintage.

Kosta Browne Spring Release 2015: Of the 4 2011 Kosta Browne Pinot Noirs open tonight the RRV and Sonoma Coast were very similar but the Sonoma Coast was abit more dilute and lacking in depth than the RRV. That being said, if I wasn't drinking them side by side , I problably wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Both had rich red fruit, pepper, some Asian spice notes and abit of earth and were drinking well tonight with just an hour or so of air.

Decanted several hours prior to consumption. Lackluster from a very cold vintage. The fruit never graduated from cranberry to strawberry / cherry, the acid is pushy, and it drops out at mid-palate. Still, behind the issues of atypical fruit, the KB hallmarks of roundness and sensuous mouth feel are attempting to plant their flags.

89, lacking typical kosta browne fruit and coming across as a bit stemmy (although I believe the style is minimal to no stems). After about an hour and a half, opened up and improved. This is great pinot noir, but an inferior wine from this producer.

First taste (pop&pour): light nose/expected. Red fruit and sweetness. No harshness at all - tannins very subdued. Second taste (1 hour decant in glass): expanded nose, broader flavor profile.

This was really delicious. Surprised to see people noting a lack of fruit in this wine, as this was bigger and fruitier than the majority of pinots out there, and pretty typical for KB. The flavor profile was more towards red berries (especially strawberry) than the typical kb cherries and cola. There was noticeable oak that blended well with the fruit. Everyone who tasted it really liked it.

Almost salty nose with blue fruits and loads of sweet baking spices. The palate is milder than kb tends to be with solid acidity but missing some fruit for me. Not what I was hoping for when I pulled a kb.
Darker in color and weightier than I remember it from last year. Medium ruby, only slightly translucent. Sweet red fruit aromas with some smoky oak, hints of Burgundian style. Smooth, balanced moderately deep red and black fruit flavors, in nice harmony with the structure. Slightly hot but medium-long aftertaste. Very enjoyable, not sure it will gain with further aging, but should hold for several more years. Ric
Delicious dark raspberry/strawberry fruit with earthy, spice, and cherry cola flavors, excellent structure, ample finish, not as rich and fruit forward as previous vintages
Not as fruit forward or as richly textured as previous vintages, but still good with crisp cherries, cranberries, baking spice, pepper and freshly cut cedar. Nicely balanced.
Higher acidity, and less fruit, than what I am usually expecting from KB. Probably the vintage as much as anything. I get more tart cranberry, and less cherry cola compared to previous vintages. Yet, it is still well made and pleasurable. Just not one of the "wow" wines you tend to expect from KB.

Popped and poured. Aroma has quite a stink to it, and comes through the taste some. This is definitely corked...not really overbearing, as the taste still has dark cherries. The fruit seems nice that is there, but the cork taint really makes this one a bummer.

Decanted tasted and did not rebottle for 45 minutes. Initially thought it best as PnP. After 1 hr drive to Fish & Game, Hudson, NY it initially seemed to have withdrawn but re-emerged after 15 minutes. Blissful raspberry notes, lithe, and compelling. A DRINKER, NOT A KEEPER|
KB is consistently great. Considered bringing the 10 Gap's Crown, but thought it would be too heavy after reading Pro & CT notes
Early heat on the nose and the palate, but quickly settles in to a bouquet of red fruits, translucent ruby in the glass and finishing with a long pucker of sour cherry. Continued to calm down throughout the evening.

Popped and poured. Shows like a RRV pinot with a nose of black cherry, sour cherry, and clove. On the palate bright cherry, cranberry, and spice. Finishes with decent grip and acidity. Not as "hot" as previous vintages, I don't if this is vintage or style change.

Light-medium color, translucent. Red fruit aromas of cherry/strawberry/raspberry, not very pronounced. Similar red fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries, but fairly one-dimensional. Nice long aftertaste, though. I know these are sought-after wines, but I'd rather have Walter Hansel North Slope for $35 than this for a much higher price. Since we bought a couple of cases, including single vineyards, I'll withhold further judgment until we try some others. Ric
At first pour. (no decanting) Starts out a bit too jammy for my taste. Had it with a Pork Osso Bucco. Once some heat dissipated, the pinot grape took over. Transitioning to a smooth wine notorious of this winemaker. That being power & grace combined.

Delicious.

Gave this 30 minutes of decant for before the restaurant. KB is a personal favorite, but this bottle showed a touch hot/astringent. Great florals on the nose. More red fruits than blue. Not much in the pumpkin/holiday spice area.

90 min decant, full bodied pinot, good balance, very much Cali fruit forward, spice notes mid way through to finish, good finish, should reach prime in 2-3 years and last until 2022. Average value

Chilled this before drinking in Isla Mujeres Mexico on vacation watching the sunset and in 86 degree heat it quickly reaches "cellar" temperature revealing classic KB notes. Fantastic.

First taste (pop&pour): light nose/expected. Red fruit and sweetness. No harshness at all - tannins very subdued. Second taste (1 hour decant in glass): expanded nose, broader flavor profile.
How can anyone not love this wine ?
Update - second day. I was disappointed in the flavor profile after leaving 1/2 bottle overnight. It seemed to develop a distinctly bitter element.
