At a private dinner, Brisbane. This wine opened with a deep golden colour yet a fresh opulent nose of peach, apricot, pineapple, cinnamon butter and orange zest. The palate is truly opulent with layers of flavour balanced by toast with honey and butter and a clear mineral grip that persists beautifully. while this is no shrinking violet of a wine it is a fine expression of mature old vines Roussanne that stands up against and compliments rich dishes.

Early dinner gathering (Blacksalt, Washington DC): Expressive decadent nose displaying rich tropical yellow fruit, starfruit, pineapple, dry yellow peach, honey, caramel, sweet spices, lanoline, oyster shell and limestone. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of sweet yellow fruit, rich, dense, deeply toned, and oily, medium acidity, strong mineral, and a long sweet yellow fruit driven finish with sweet spices and oyster shell at the end. Although very ripe, it shows fairly good balance.

Zachys Holiday Auction - Dec 2017 (Smith & Wollensky (48th & 3rd Ave)): Wow was this good. It was just firing on all of the cylinders. Opened and decanted (per some advice) and then drank throughout the day (although it was originally termed breakfast wine and I'm surprised it lasted). Lovely full mouthful with delicate white flowers and honey and a prettiness to it. Long finish. Delicious.

Based on previous tasters notes, this was decanted and consumed over a couple of hours - with breakfast actually at the Zachy's holiday wine auction. I have had the opportunity to taste older vintages but this was the youngest I have tried, and I was quite impressed. Pretty nose reminds me of the smell when you walk into a Parisian bakery in the morning. On the palate creme brûlée and lemon custard just yummy and rich, a bit waxy and mouth coating. I thought it was awesome!
Double decanted then chilled to constant 9C temperature. Initially a little green and tight, the wine hit its stride after nearly an hour. Nose a bit muted but palate danced around tangerine, orange, lemon, green apple, honeysuckle, tropical fruit, banana, banana caramel and a slightly oily texture on a very long finish. The balance and smoothness was impeccable. This was an example of restrained power: you can feel it and know it's there but it is at the same time delicate. I do get the sense true greatness is lurking somewhere beneath and either the wine is starting to enter a more closed state or my fish pairing wasn't ideal. 94-95

Pop n pour via Vinturi. Initially tight then opened up with honeysuckle nose and honeyed taste. Muted nose but a wide range of tates: honey suckle, wood, white peach, lemon curd, white flower, and even liquorice, which I have never tasted in a white wine before. There was some bitterness herb which might not be to everyone's taste. Super long finish. Delicate and sophisticated, it wasn't the best match for our powerful dark soya miso glazed salmon (my fault) so I can see a higher score if paired to white meat, fish or shellfish. Bracing acidity with a slight touch of oilyness. Still youthful with a long life. 93-94+ if it had been decanted and better paired or just drank by itself I can see a 95.

Best vintage of this wine I have ever tried (I have 2005-2014 in the cellar). In fact one of the best whites I have ever had period. Not a 100 pointer because I need somewhere to go if it drinks better after a few years. That being said this was an incredible bottle showing perfect balance, elegance, complexity and length. Mind numbingly brilliant. 2011 is just a superb year for rhone whites.
Always love the white wines from Beaucastel. This was really nice, and full of ripe fruits, with a lot of sweetness to it. Drank with a white burgundy though that had much more complexity, which out showed this wine. But overall, this was a delicious wine.

Tampa Spring Break (the abridged version); 3/17/2016-3/18/2016 (Various Tampa locations (Mise en Place, Ocean Prime, etc.)): I always love this wine and this was no exception. Only about 500 cases are made every year. It's aged in a combination of stainless steel and small oak barrels. This is just rich and unctous and a total mouthful. Honeysuckle and glycerin and white flowers and a hint of lime. Softness in a glass. So elegant. Beautiful. One of my contenders for WOTN which is saying something given it's a white (I usually skew towards reds).

In short: this was the best white wine that I have ever had.
Golden yellow color. A very seductive nose with aromas of honey and white flowers. The taste is extremely rich, very fruity, very intensive, dense and oily, with stunning flavors of tropical fruits (e.g. pineapple), honey and white flowers. Although the flavor palette is sweet and tropical, the wine still leaves an impression of being a a dry and balanced white wine, which is an amazing achievement.
The wine was ca. 5 years old now. I have not drunk this wine in its very young or in a very matured phase, so all I can say is that this wine is in an excellent drinking condition right now.

I like big reds more than white wines in general, but this is the best white wine I have ever had. Loads of fruit (guava, lemon, passion fruit, mango), mineral essence, oak and acidity in an incredibly balanced and astonishingly mouth filling dry blend of goodness. Definitely not in its dumb phase yet. I absolutely loved it. This Roussanne puts every high-end Napa Chardonnay I have ever tried to shame.

95+ pts

An absolutely exquisite wine. Even my wife who does not care for white wine that much said "that was the wine of the night", and that's putting it up against a 1998 Quilceda Creek CS and a 2008 St Innocent Freedom Hill PN. Paired it with Crab Cakes and fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. Glad we have 2 more. The wine is so well balanced, such a succulent nose and flavors that just explode on the palate.

Where to start? Rich and delicious so many ways at so many temperatures throughout the meal. Beautiful light gold in the glass, with lemon, apple, pear, even pineapple with spice offset with some minerality and even oak. took a flier opening a bottle with sushi & beef teriyaki; a tough match. What a fun ride! There is enough acid that when your palate says sweetness and your head says dry, you might just stop thinking and enjoy. Long gorgeous finish. Take years to enjoy.

Holy smokes this wine is huge! Exudes power in every sense. Big, complex tropical fruit nose, with nutty scents and even a whiff of toasted marshmallow. Concentrated, oily palate with oak still present but just a side player given the strong, sweet citrus and almond flavors. Good bit of heat on the finish. The wine clearly isn't my style or even in my frame of reference, but I still enjoyed the experience.

Unblended Rousanne wine from vines planted in 1909. In its current state, this wine is very difficult to describe and to rate as it is totally inaccessible at present. Beautiful yellow-gold in color, but the nose is very reticent and the palate completely out of balance. I think this wine will get better with 2-3 more years in the bottle.

Extremely powerful and at this stage quite over the top. The nose is heavy, fruitladen with noticable woodnotes on top. The palate is full bodied, glyceringheavy and for this reason it almost appears sweet. The sheer concentration due to the low yield, is remarkable. The old vines (+75 years) in addition to late picking drives the low yield and gives enourmous amounts of dry extract. From this also comes the slightly bitter finish. Impressive wine, but hardly possible to drink a bottle...too much power.

Visit to Beaucastel (Chateau de Beaucastel): Very ripe and oak driven nose. Quite a wine. Reminiscent of a heavily oaked white burg. Sweet nectarine, honey attack. Palate is viscous with almond, apricot. Despite telling us it was fermented to dryness palate is perceptibly quite sweet. Long fresh baked marzipan finish. Quite liked this and thought it was the best white of the trip despite it's modern leanings.

Delicious nose of toasted oak, ripe yellow apple, brioche, a hint of smoke... taste of ripe yellow apple, very fat, brioche, nice acidity, very nice minerality... this wine can support the massive oak and is absolutely delicious at this stage!!! I'm wondering how it will age... as François Perrin suggests, Roussanne should be drunk within 3 years or afte 10-15 years on tertiary taste... great wine!!

Famille Perrin tasting event (Brussels): Rather closed, certainly in comparison with the Beaucastel blanc of the same vintage which we drank during the same flight. White fruit such as pear and honey at the nose, very subtle with nicely integrated oak. Powerfully dry on the palate at the onset, full-bodied with more fruit breaking through on the mid-palate and some star anise at the finish. Well-balanced but possibly not the best moment to drink it without giving it a lot of air first.

The Eleventh Annual Stonefields Dinner (Guelph, ON, Canada): From magnum, decanted 20-30minutes. medium gold colour. The nose on this was much more inviting and vibrant than the 2011 served next to it. It showed pure lemon, minerals, pineapple, guava, honey, white florals and an almost cereal note. The palate was equally powerful showing lemon curd, custard, minerals, mint and citrus. The finish was quite pretty with very good length, flavour and persistence however, some heat did show up and really keep this from being truly outstanding in my opinion. It was so interesting to have this next to the 2001....i would drink this on the younger side based on these 2 bottles. I love the lively fresh fruit.

Once in Lifetime...: From magnum, decanted approximately 20 minutes prior to service, light straw colour in the glass. So vibrant and lively compared to the 2001 served along side it, with very pretty nose of stone fruits, melon, tropical fruits, honey, light vanilla, florals, spice and crushed rocks. On the palate, even fatter than the 2001, with a very rich and round mouthfeel, showing tropical fruits, spice and mineral on the long finish. Unfortunately, the beauty in this wine is marred by a touch of heat on the back end, but still a very pretty wine. Overall, not exactly my style, but there is no arguing that this is masterfully constructed.

Paired it with Crab Cakes and fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. Glad we have 2 more. The wine is so well balanced, such a succulent nose and flavors that just explode on the palate.

certainly too young, fullbodied with a musculin structure, had it together with a lot of Rieslings, a like it, nuts, marzipan, creamy, long aftertaste, perfect to food, acidity is balanced to the fruit, will wait ten more years to get the whole package
