Lots of ripe red and black cherry with slightly sweet spice followed by faint earth notes. Good+ depth and weight, with even better layers. At a very interesting and enjoyable place now. I prefer this over the 2015 vintage opened last night.

Hoo-wee this is nice. I’m loving the just-right beam of tartness that runs through the delectable cherry and early-ripe raspberry flavors. The cherry-tartness lasts in the back of the mouth and is ... mouthwatering. So many California pinots have similar flavors (gobs) but not the substance, not the complementary tartness/acidity/structure, that this has. As for aging, this is 10 years old, yet still seems young. Bottle open for nearly 3 hours and it’s only getting better! Drinking beautifully now but no hurry.

Everything is really nice about this wine but it channels producer (wiemakinng style) and not vineyard(terroir). Thomas can make this out of any vineyard in CA with just slight variation. So the difference between single vineyard and Sonoma coast is the step up in intensity of the wine . I like it, but I can see myself if getting bored of samething if I was drinking my RM wines faster. So for myself, the message is get couple each year bu no more .

Red berry, earth and red cherry notes on the nose. Medium bodied (14.1% ABV) with red cherry upfront and some lite red raspberry coming in through the middle providing extra depth. Good acidity in the background, but feels very well integrated at this stage. There's enough structure to balance the fruit and provide very good balance between the more open and more tart fruit notes. Light spices and lightly tart red cherry/pomegranate notes towards the finish. Has just a touch of that orange peel/spice/forest floor quality on the finish that Rivers-Marie pinot show so well. I think some of the more recent vintages from this site showed slightly more complexity and depth. Felt like this wine was drinking at peak/close to it but should be able to hold this level for another couple of years.

Surprisingly dark. More monolithic than I've had from R-M before. Bigger structure, deeper flavor focused on purple fruits. More of an RRV than Sonoma Coast profile if I had been served it blind. Rich, full. Fine to drink now, but I think it will hold further, though not certain that it will transform much in terms of showing any more nuances in flavor. Was my only bottle so who knows!

PnP. Medium red. Typical Sonoma Coast nose of red fruits, crunchy apple, and some citrus notes with more stone fruits (plum). On the palate this is quite bright, not overly ripe or dense, and well balanced. The finish is medium length with red fruits dominating and no noticeable tannins. Might last a bit given the balance but drinking well now at age 6.

Haven't had any of this in over 3 years and the community TNs looked interesting so out with the cork on my remaining one. Opened about 90 mins ago, placed a light chill on it. Pretty accessible, plump is my immediate impression. There is cranberry and plum here, both with darker tones. Even the color of the wine shows this same darker complexion. There is a zesty quality here too, of what is for me the signature of the 2011 vintage. What is absent here is complexity and girth to help this age into the future, again consistent with what I find in the vintage. All that said, what I do like here is the expressive, accessible quality and all parts in play--acidity, color, fruit and no booze (either smelled or felt!). Enjoy now, no reason to leave this to age and wait for something. It's here now......as a brief follow-up, didn't finish on Day 2, so it's Day 3, now working through the last glass. Fleshed out even more, now with a distinct, sexy raspberry/plum jam quality, along with some cinnamon in the aromatic. This is really quite good, for sure CA in tone and its not gonna be confused with CdB. Air this good, give it a light chill and drink now for the vibrant fruit that anchors this down, shaded by the acid of 2011.

Opened for an hour or so before tasting. Medium dark red. Complex nose of darker fruits and a floral/spicy quality as well. Lovely full taste and body with good richness but perhaps a bit lacking on the finish. This is quite intriguing as the dark fruits and flavors are quite distinct from the blood orange/red fruited wines one often get from this area. Vineyard management, clones, vinification or vintage? Normally, this takes a few years to come around and really hit its stride. It is drinking beautifully now. A short decant helps, but pop and pour and its ready to go. Cherries, plums, spice and anise on the very expressive nose. Similar flavors with a touch of oak in the finish. Good mouthfeel and well balanced. Enough acidity so its not too heavy and brightens it up. Soft tannins lead to a vibrant finish where just enough acidity again shows. This is showing really well now, but I suspect will be better with a few more years in the bottls.

Wow wow wow. Talk about catching a wine at the right time. Amazing nose of cool blue fruit, ripe cherries, orange rind. The palate is deep and clean with ripe cherries, rhubarb and again an amazing citrus note. Great balance. My favorite RM pinot ever and Ive had my share.

Light purple/red with pink rim. Expressive red-fruited nose of cherry and raspberry. Terrific palate of cherry, raspberry, clove, spice, and earth. Structurally, this medium-bodied wine has a silky mouthfeel and excellent acidity. The finish is long with pure, red fruit. Overall, this has red fruit, a silky mouthfeel, and clean acidity that makes this a pleasure to drink.

Nerdy California Wines (Domaine - Washington, DC): This bottle had been opened the day before, and I think the time helped this out a lot. Juicy cherries and rhubarb on the nose. The palate is fresh and silky, with fine tannins and medium acid. The cherry and strawberry fruit is laced with pepper, cola, tobacco and hints of vanilla. Smooth, crisp, a very pleasurable Sonoma Coast Pinot.

Opened at Anvil with Allred. Beautiful nose with red fruits, baking spices and an earthy funk. Consistent with my previous two bottles. Just an awesome expression of Sonoma Coast Pinot that was picked smartly in an off year. A pretty nose Bing Cherry with hints of sarsaparilla and exotic tea leaf. Palate shows a deft balance which is mind-boggling. There is some dried cherries and red-raspberries with a brightness and complexity not often encountered. As I mentioned, the balance is spot on and tannins are in sizable and in control but lenient and the finish just a joy. I wish I had more....oh wait, I have three in offsite storage!

Ok, so I am not the best person to go to when you want Pinot. What I do know is what I like and I certainly seem to gravitate toward Sonoma. Pretty nose of dried cherries and cardamom with hints of warm caramel. Palate shows a very deft balance with a prettiness and elegance that I really enjoy. Dried red cherries and hints of raspberries this has richness, depth and a sense and that place is here; love the caramel note. Tannins are well in command and acidity near perfect for pasta night, thus has a long finish that keeps the dried fruits in play. A very prodigious wine for a Friday night and let’s face it, you only get 52 Fridays a year, why drink anything less? Air this for 30 minutes.

I enjoyed this bottle over dinner. Was decanted, too. Has a richness, even some caramel that infuses the wine at this young age, and it's sexy and rich, with some supporting acidity. Where's Sean Kennedy's note, who drank the wine with me? Sean!

This wine is signing right now. You can tell its from a warmer vineyard site. From a fruit perspective, its on the bigger side - juicy dark fruits, full mouthfeel, some viscosity but light-on-its feet. This will be a crowd pleaser. Not a hint of alcohol. Its hard not to like this wine. Okay to drink this early, but save a few to see how this develops over time.
