Jura + X Tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Freaky no name from Grandma's cupboard. Popped and poured. Unfiltered deep golden amber color. Beautiful fresh nose with some sweet fruit and oxidative notes. On the palate also some sweet fruit but bone dry, very mineral, deep and dense. Beautiful balance and almost elegant. Long finish. Beautiful! 93-94

Ganevat Mon Pere Vertical (Chambers): A more nuanced, quieter wine. Perilla leaf, sambac jasmine, meyer lemon. Less concentrated on the palate than the previous wines tasted. It felt like a quite fragile wine, though it did not fade as time passed and stayed much the same.
ABV: 13% Closure: natural cork Stem: Korin white stem Decant: N/A; poped and poured and tasted over the course of ~5h Extra info: from vines of Savagnin Vert planted in 1930, on the blue marl of the Chalasses site. Aged for 130 months a la ouille in old demi-muid and barrels after a press à l'ancienne and no racking of the must. A small amount of sulphur is added only at bottling Vintage info from JF Ganevat: Beautiful vintage, fresh with a short summer, with a fantastic "arriere-saison." Nine weeks of northern wind which allowed the grapes to concentrate without over-ripening. Beautiful acidity.

Rich and intense with electric acidity and minerality. Oxidative character is present but not overwhelming. Age has smoothed out the sharp edges, but this drinks like a middle-aged wine. Had this with a 7 course cal-fusion seafood-heavy tasting menu, and it worked wonderfully with just about every course.

we started off the night with dazzling fireworks, a wine I knew not of, which was generously brought to our dinner (thanks JH!). nose of caramel, creme brulee, and peach cobbler with an intriguing floral lift. mouth - rich and concentrated with the weight of grand cru burgundy. meyer lemon, marshmallow, and creme brulee, all intermixed, overall an incredibly concentrated rich flavor that bowled me over. 100% Savignin. A minor revelation. Wow wine.

Simply a stunning wine with an orange color. A slightly oxidized style yet with excellent freshness, zippy acidity and superb intensity. There are concentrated flavors of orange blossom, honey and faded tropical fruits that lead to a very complex finish with notes of exotic spices, tangy citrus and saline minerals. Perfectly aged now and just a revelation!

Ganevat Bonanza (RR Frederiksberg): This is insane stuff. Full-bodied honey dew melon with lots of green spices. Huge complexity but still in a great balance. The acidity is bright, mellow and very refreshing and ensures a lovely balance in the wine. A stunning wine.

Another Memorable Nite? (Restaurante Garcia de la Navarra - Madrid): Typically Jura. Little turbid 'cause its natural way. Needing some time to bloom up then mineral and oxidation notes. Sublime? Well, close to. On the palate things aren't different. Lovely oxidative style with a good length. Lower level if compared with the nose. Aspiring to greatness. Last drop, the best.

Fantastic. Best of this cuvee I've ever had. Such a deep, resonating quality, with layers of minerals, savory, acid, etc. Had with a roast pork and white beans.

Maggie Harrison/Brad Grimes Dinner (Eleven Madison Park): This was perhaps one of the more forgettable of what could only be called a stellar line-up ('96 Mouton, '07 Abreu, '05 SQN white,...). It was clearly a well made wine, but perhaps not really my style. Didn't really do anything for me and as compared to the SQN just not quite as interesting.

I had really looked forward to tasting this wine. A true cult-wine of the Jura. I had expected to get a thick, rich and mature Meursault-like wine like the Chalasses Marnes Bleues from 2010(it's the same vineyard) but even more mature. Boy was I wrong! This wine was the essence of fresh Savagnin. Killer acidity, prickly spices, tons of yellow fruits and minerals. It's beyond me how a wine from 2002 can be so fresh? It was so amazing. In fact it was way to young to drink now and therefore I will rate it lower than the Chalasses Marnes Bleues, AS FOR NOW!

Not as impressive as 6 years ago. A bit softer, a little less defined, still impressive wine but just lacking that next level for me.
