Consumed over 2 days (vacuvined and refrigerated), note from day 2. Appearance: Clear, medium ruby. Nose: Clean, medium intensity, developing aromas of dark fruit - cassis, blackberry and blueberry, black currant leaf and black olives. Palate: Dry, medium acidity and tannin, medium alcohol, medium+ bodied, medium intensity with flavors of slightly under-ripe dark fruit, black pepper, and black olives with medium+ length. Still developing, but can drink now, good for 5+ years yet.

Quite reticent on day 1, but opened up by the second evening. Somewhat restrained nose with hints of beef blood, cherries, green pepper and leaf litter. Medium-full bodied, smokey, nice acid spine, a bit stemmy (particularly on the nose), smooth tannins. Drinking well now, but needs some air.

Opaque purple color. Tasted over two days. Tighter and fresher on the first day. Blackberry scent with a bit of floral lift. A wiff of barrel funk, vanilla and loamy scents round out the nose. Smooth and seamless on the palate. Blackberries, a streak of acidity and some woody or stemy flavors on the palate. Finishes smooth and medium with a bit of heat clipping the finish. Seems to be at peak, I don’t see this getting any better as the fruit fades with time. Drink up.

Delicious example of Syrah. Consumed over three nights. First night, more plum and leather. Last night, more licorice. Very well balanced, no hint of 14% alcohol. Drink up, I'd submit this is at its peak.

In lieu of gathering with close friends for a long-planned Syrah Night at the beginning of the pandemic, I instead opened this at home and just text them all a pic. Not the same!! A nicely balanced Syrah, tannins present but not intrusive. Purple/black in the glass. I don't recall having a Griffin's Lair previously, had purchased this from a friend's allocation from the winery, so no reference on the flavor profile. Bit of char/tar, but predominantly smooth purple fruit. Nice acidity and touch of resin in the background. Good now, thinking this is at the start of a nice drinking window/plateau.

PnP and drank out of blue solo cup at a tailgate. This has added a good deal of depth since the last time I had it in 2015. Dark black and red fruit with some meaty characteristics. My guess is this would show even better with proper stemware. Seems to have plenty of life left in it.

A shy child when first opened that needs about two hours of decant before coming out from behind its mothers skirt. The first tentative steps were restrained and cautious but after a few minutes the depth and character came out displaying a dry but deep personality with a floral announcement. Slightly ripe blackberry, dried plum, and cracked leather with a balanced spice topping. The best playmate of all the kids on the table was green olives that tempered the stubborn tannins so the more pleasant fruit aspects of the wines personality would emerge.

drank along with the Bedrock 2010 Hudson's Syrah and 2012 Monte Rosso Zin. They were all good but the Hudson's Syrah was the favorite. This Syrah might get better in a couple years since it has acid and structure left. Nice cooler climate Syrah. I don't think Morgan is able to make a bad wine

Pretty nose of pure blackberry fruit, with a smattering of dried flowers. Acid is prominent on the palate and needs a half an hour in glass to start to soften and come into balance with the luxurious palate of an almost zin-like bramble fruit, tart blueberry, and stony lick of minerals. Fine, still slightly drying tannins are in a good place and providing structure. Long, rewarding finish. A tad of heat on the back, but it’s well managed.
Has started to fall apart on day 2, and day 3 has lost much of its lift and energy. Would not try to hold this for too long.

Really enjoyed this. Bit more restrained, less oak-influenced than many other Bedrock syrahs I've had. Dark fruits, cracked pepper, and florals (Viognier showing itself) throughout. Still has good structure showing through the suave fruit and improved over a few hours.

Description-wise I can't possibly top IJB's note from 2/16 - please read it. Lots of smoky, dark fruit. A year and a half later the structural elements are integrating and this is drinking well from the PnP through day two; overall should last through its 10th birthday.

One of the better domestic Syrahs I've had lately. Reminds me of its inspiration in the northern Rhone.... I wouldn't blind it as Jamet or Gonon, as it does have a dollop more sunshine- but it has the right mix of olives, earth, smoke, acid... It's light, bright, aromatic... 2011, while not heralded, was kind to this style, to the point that this was, sadly, my last bottle. It was appreciated and enjoyed, and will be missed!

Loving the nose on this. Takes a whole lot of air to get going, but it opens up to show tart blackberries, juicy dark plums and fleshy black cherries. I also get black pepper sauce, roasted meat and wet, loamy soil notes. Mouthfeel on this wine is really solid: structured tannins, medium acid, a velvety feel to the fruit that comes from a great combination of tartness and richness. Black cherries, blackberries, tart blueberries, the fruit is pure and delicious, and peppered with, well, black pepper, roasted red pepper, soy, earthy and mushroomy tones. Wow, lots going on here. It’s structured, bold and gutsy, but there’s a sense of freshness that holds together the wine. Long finish. I knew this was young, but couldn’t hold off any longer. Showing much better after hours of air – and even better on day 2. Would love to retaste in two or four years.

Decanted approx. two hours ... This one is really hitting its stride. Opens with blackberry, mixed with tarter raspberry notes. Bold, but not overwhelming. Well structured, with spice and modest creamy notes. Firm tannins, good acid balance. A really great Bedrock wine, that straddles that Old-New World line extraordinarily well. Bigger wine, that's still complex and interesting. In a really great place right now, but still potential for improvement/evolution.

A pleasant wine with nice color. PNP first night. The nose was almost imperceptible but my wife thought it pleasant. Medium body, nice legs in the glass. Medium fruit: boysenberry and maybe red fruit plus a hint of spice - I got cinnamon, not pepper. Didn't notice tannins. Second night it seemed a bit richer on the palate. Good with grilled chicken. Overall pleasant but not very good QPR in my opinion.

Still young at heart but the tannins are integrating nicely. Definitely a bruiser but progressing nicely. Good complexity and mouthfeel, nice nose. Medium finish with nice acidity and mineral/saline component. Personally expect peak drinking to start in about 3 years from now with the ability to go much further..

First time trying one of Morgan's Griffen's LAir bottlings. Probably needed to let this one breath a bit more than I did, because day two things started to mellow out a bit more. Smooth tannins. Not quite as good as the Arnot - Roberts bottling from Griffen's Lair. Saving my last bottle to see what happens over teh next year.

Classic Griffin's Layer fruit, reminds me of some of Pax's old bottles. As others have said, it's a bit lighter in body, I'm guessing more to do with the 2011 vintage, most wines so far have had very enjoyable fruit and a more elegant body. Medium length, very clean fruit profile which I love, the tannins are not aggressive and with a light decant can be drunk right away. As always Morgan makes some very good wines.

Not as deep and rich as hoped, but more light weight, probably due to the viognier. A bit of the funk rounds this one out. Feels like it could use more time.

The fundamental difference between the large producers and the smaller dedicated winemakers that bottle for lovers of wine, the stories behind them and the pride they bring to the product is emblematic in Bedrock wines. A commentary on this wine that was less enthusiastic and indicated what seemed a flawed bottle was met with a reply directly from winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson. He too believed the bottle may be flawed, asked me to try the wine again and regardless, offering to replace the bottle. So I opened another, this time with my wife. The first bottle now appears as clearly flawed. While I do not get the full aromatics that Morgan said are there, my wife did. But what I did get was a far more integrated and flavorful wine. I still think it is less powerful than previous Griffin's (2010 Griffin's is a stand out to me though I am looking forward to the rest of the 2011 class - none tried yet). I also think this is opened too young (at least 2014..if not later). Well structured and a solid wine and I will save the last bottle for a bit. Thanks to Morgan for reaching out to me. That says a lot about the winemaker beyond the great wines Bedrock produces. The enjoyment of drinking a wine is only enhanced when you know the maker cares what you, the consumer, think of the product. Classy...very very classy.

Lighter in color than most Bedrock's syrahs ... seductively aromatic -- but does quite pay off on the taste ... tannic with a touch of citrus, which seems a little out of place. The wine was fermented with 11 percent viognier. I certainly opened it too soon and look forward to drinking the next bottle sometime after the next presidential election.

Tasted barrel sample at Bedrock pickup day. A much lighter and more fragrant wine than the Hudson syrah. I believe there is more whole cluster on this wine. Aromatics are great! Structure is there in spades. Will likely take some years to shed its defenses. Per Morgan, of the syrahs (if I recall correctly), his favorite 2012s are alder springs and griffins liar. Stock up when released.

Wanted to try a griffins lair even though i knew i was too early. Good wine and hoping that a few more years will improve the rest of my bottles.

A very well made wine, but surely too young at this time. Wait until 2015.
