Maybe it was the hint from the label, but this Pinot had rose petal aromas and tastes. I've read wine reviews that mention rose petals but the actual aroma and flavor has alluded me until I tasted this lovely wine. It lacked some depth and complexity resulting in the rating. Dark cherry flavors and well-balance with decent acidity making it quite bright. Thanks for introducing me to the aromas and tasted of rose petals!

Deep ruby garnet color with notes of sour cherry, candied cherry, nutmeg and cinnamon. Medium-bodied with good acidity and balance, featuring flavors of cranberry, cherry, clove and cinnamon. Pairs very nicely with the glazed pork belly. 89-90 pts.

From Hess Family Estates. Used 667 and Pommard clones. Mid-dark garnet; distinct varietal nose; stemmy, cherries, wood; good structure; tight; balanced acids at the beginning, semi-velvety finish; a little hot (13.5 alc)

Medium, bright garnet red in color. Forward and assertive nose of ripe red fruits of cherries & raspberries, floral notes, some spices, herbs, vanillin/oak with cola overtones. Medium bodied with a good concentration of round ripe red fruit flavors of sour cherries, berries, some spices, herbs, rose petals and sweet cola. Lingering finish with a slight touch of heat in the background. May benefit from an additional 2 to 3 years of further aging. Not as pulled together or as smooth as the 2010 at present, but it appears to have slightly more concentration.

N: Somewhat muted; Blk cherries with notable herbaceous notes which, now at least, adds complexity rather than dominating.
P: Med body, though its fleshy entry seems to push it towards MF body. Almost sweetish fruit, balanced by tangy acidity. Pleasant, though shortish finish. Suspect STILL coming together -- & will be even MORE charming in another 6 mos or so. IF purchased @ COSTCO [$19.99 in SoCA] I'd say this represents *excellent* Pinot value, therefore my 91 pts! [I seldom assign pts to what I taste.]

Second Sunday Group: 2010 Chateauneuf-du-Pape (R&D's): Notes of rhubarb, cherry and dark pinot fruit. The palate follows the bouquet. Good.

Lots of rhubarb with w bit of cherry underneath. Ripe, and a bit monolithic and awkward. Somewhat fat.
