Tight tight tight on pop and pour. Lots of reductive notes.
Put part of it in the decanter, put some more under the cork.
Four hours later, we drank all the stuff in the decanter. Not sure it was actually improved. The Lafon finally blew of its reduction and opened up a little bit. We compared it against a Ballot Millot 2019 which was actually very good initially, but a bit rich when revisited.
The Lafon is tremendously well balanced. Not saying it’s better or definitely not worth the tariff, but it’s a nice wine.
Fast-forward to day two. The wine is much improved; better nose, more focused, bigger, and better balanced. I don’t know if it’s in a sleepy phase or what, but it is wholly different on day two.

Richebourg and Meursault: PnP. More tropical than the 10, this was a charming wine, but didn't have the same level of depth and interest. Very drinkable and wide open right now, very enjoyable.

Popped and poured during dinner. Straw yellow and tinge of green in glass and very fresh. Without a doubt, provenance and storage for this bottle was immaculate. Stone fruit and white flowers but tight upon pouring and I opted to slow down to let it open a little bit more. After some time in glass, opened up to green apples, slightly unriped yellow fruit, some grapefruit and japanese kumquat. This was dense but precise and structured with a strong backbone of minerality. Finish was elegant and lengthy. A true treat and one made for the long haul in my humble opinion

Explosive from the pop. This is stunning. Its intense aromatics leap from the glass flaunting layers of yellow fruit, lemon cream pie, fresh lilies and stony minerals. There palate shows fantastic detail and delineation, with impeccable balance and concentration. Finish goes on and on. Fantastic bottle.

Been unfortunately abusing my small stash of these but they are just so attractive now. The nose is just spot on for Lafon's Meursaults, and at 9 years old, still showing very young, nose and palate or stone fruit and a waxiness and slight hint of pueh er tea, and a great minerality. The density that others have talked about was unexpected and yet it remained light on its feet and very elegant. This is a well made wine with miles to go. Gotta find more..

Quel vin!

this was sensational... really density while at the same time being lifted and bright... elements that can often conflict or only be found in different wines... sweetness evident early in the decant, with minerality / stone fruit rind coming a bit more for the fore later on, superb with or without food... but can definitely stand on its own... not sure it would improve over time but possible as it rounded its corners a bit... so good tho so if you have them make sure to start enjoying

Denver Burgundy Group July Meursault Tasting This was terrific and tied with Boillot and Jobard for me as WOTN. It had that additional dimension you get from the absolute top level producers. Classic Charmes with a honeyed, nutty element, but was lighter in mouthfeel and had great minerality. This was super elegant and clearly a pedigree wine. Persistent and long on the finish. If this was the only wine we drank at the tasting I would have spent hours enjoying it. Tough for the price given it does not have the depth of a Grand Cru but if anyone is pouring I am grabbing a myself a big glass. Only up from here, still a baby and has all the makings of a gorgeous, long lived Charmes.

Visit to Domaine des Comte Lafon with Stephane Thibodaux; 3/20/2015-3/21/2015: This was a stunning wine. A sensational rich Meursault bouquet. Very fine and elegant on the palate. Nutty power cranked up by sparkling acidity. Serious fruit weight. Very long. According to Stephane, the site has three ages of vines (20, 45 and 75 years). He also said that Charmes is a large AOC and 'where your vines are located is very important'. The Comte Lafon vines are at the top of the climat and one of the best areas, according to Stephane.
