This elegant beautifully made 10 year old pinot just seems to get better and better. It's a gorgeous bottle of wine. Creamy and feminine with soft red fruit. I loved this wine the first time I tasted it 10 years ago and it never disappoints

Just always like the Sangiacomo fruit. Medium brick red, classic Sonoma Pinot nose with rich cherry and currant nose, with ripe strawberry, pomegranate and mushroom on palate, a little heavy and a little hotter than it should be on finish, but delicious fruit. A little more balance and finesse and it would be a very special wine. Will continue to age.

Right from Chambolle-Musigny! A cherry bomb. Vinous says it will last until 2035.....Maybe this was a typo. No tannins left, just a wonderful cherry taste. You can sip this all night. Very much enjoyed.

Juicy palate with plenty of dark cherry fruit. This is big, smooth and clearly California, but there is enough savory character to place this squarely in pinot territory. Works well with food too.

Had friends over for dinner and served 3 2012 single vineyard CA pinots, Sojourn Sangiacomo, Brewer-Clifton Machado, and Martinelli Bondi Home Ranch paired with salmon. Drinking side-by-side highlighted the style differences. Opened each bottle about an hour before serving. The Sojourn was the lightest, most fruit-forward and playful of the three. Cherry, cherry cola, Asian spice, with a touch of oak.

Thought the wine too phenol. The fruit has subsided, but what was left was a tannic high acid wine. Strangely enough it reminded me of the bite that many Oregon pinots have. The bottle was decanted and consumed over several hours. I had hopes it would improve, but alas it did not. I don't think this wine will age well and become like an old burgundy based on this bottle. I did not think it closed either. I have a few more somewhere in the cellar so we will see at some point.

The Sangiacomo Coast tends to be my favorite of the Sojourn Pinot Noirs, and this years version did not disappoint. Dark ruby, spicy and rich and sweet New World style, but it does have layers of flavor (blackberry and dark cherry), minerality and a touch of earthiness to make it interesting. Bold but balanced.

Medium bodied, medium acidity and ripe fruit. Really enjoy this vineyard. Layers of red fruit- strawberry, cranberry, cherry and baking spices. Drinking very nicely now. Will give that last bottle a couple of years to see how it mellows out. Drink now-2020.

It has been well over two years since last tasting this wine. A nice light garnet pinot noir color. Drinking quite well at this juncture. Descriptives are very similar to prior tastings: "aromas of multiple pleasant herbs, earth, black cherry and cinnamon. Similar flavors, along with hints of pomegranate and raspberry." Very nice mature and rich fruit. Drinking smooth and seemingly delicate and not so powerful as in my notes of 12-12-2013.

Choosing a wine with soups is not an easy task. I chose this one (along side of a California Viognier) to accompany a mildly spicy shrimp gumbo for a supper open house on the day after the Winter Solstice. I opened and served this bottle 30 minutes directly out of the cellar. All aspects of this pinot were enjoyable: recognizable nose, dark cherry/red raspberry note on the palate with a long finish. This wine was well received.

Had side by side with a 2012 Gap's Crown with lamb on Easter. This was spicier with higher acidity on the finish, comparitively. It was very lively with a long finish, and the better pair with the lamb we were eating. Sojourn pinot's are just fantastic.

Pop and pour and served with food (an omelet with fresh basil). color is a bright ruby red. Nose show some earth - wet rocks and a hint of alcohol. Good fresh berries with that brown spice and forest floor earthy notes that, for me, is the centerpiece of the Sangiacomo wines. Good richness of fruit and acidity with an earthy core.

Blind CA Pinots (My Place - Washington, DC): Moderate ruby color. Smells savory and bright at the same time, with red currants, mulled raspberries, juicy wild strawberries, some rhubarb pie, notes of chewing tobacco and pine sap. On the palate, a forward style full of raspberry jam, wild strawberries and some cherry-rhubarb pie. Velvety tannins, medium acid, the fruit is juicy and chewy, backed up by spice and smoke notes. The fruit is a bit sweeter and jammier than the other Sonoma Coast pinots in this group, but it’s balanced a bit by the acid and non-fruit qualities. Notes of caramel and chestnut (50% new oak) linger onto the finish. Drinks well now but could do well over the next few years. A bold style, but very well done.

Even better than it was 6 months ago, but I really need to wait a year if possible on next bottle. We drank this Sojourn against some comparably priced Willamette Valley pinots from the 2012 vintage. I respect the Oregon pinots, but Sojourn's flagship pinot was flat out better in all respects. These kinds of tastings keep me holding off on booking a trip to the Willamette.

Quite nice, but I truly think that this wine needs to sit in our cellar for a minimum of 6-12 months more. I'm gonna try to do that. It's enjoyable now, with its fruit forward nature and solid burgundian bouquet. There is a bit of a tannic edge to it, and the acid is a touch strong in comparison to the richer flavors. Still, again I say, quite nice. However, I am very confident that with just a little more time this wine will evolve to a richer place.

Similar nose to the Sonoma Coast bottling but less expressive -- cherry, red fruit. Lots of cherry and mocha with a little earth and spice on the palate. It's got some tannins and a long finish. This is a bigger one in style from Sojourn.

All of my descriptions from 12/12/2013 & 10/8/2013 apply to today's tasting. However the wine seems to have settled down, compared to the later two tastings. Now there seems to be better balance, fuller body and more intensity.

This time the wine seemed somewhat closed for at least 30 minutes after the first pour. I decanted the wine, but utilized a normal Pinot Noir Riedel glass as opposed to the Les Impitouables #1 red glass from last time. The Les Impitouables #1 aerated the wine much better and brought fourth the aromas much quicker. But, when it finally opened I got much the same as my tasting of two months ago: "aromas of multiple pleasant herbs, earth, black cherry and cinnamon. Similar flavors, along with hints of pomegranate and raspberry. Rich, decent fruit and somewhat powerful. Viscous in the mouth. Good structure. A quite long and lingering finish."

I mistakenly erased my evaluation of last night, so this is an attempt at recollection. I recently purchased the wine at COSTCO, thinking though that it wasn't supposed to be released until 2014. The wine appeared densely unfiltered and unfined; otherwise, a ruby color. Aromas of multiple pleasant herbs, earth, black cherry and cinnamon. Similar flavors, along with hints of pomegranate and raspberry. Rich, decent fruit and somewhat powerful. Viscous in the mouth. Good structure. A quite long and lingering finish. Paired very good with wild Atlantic King Salmon. Tasted it again tonight and it was just as good and even better than last night.

Quite good. Paired with Thai food and the sweetness and balanced acids paired very well. Cherries and tart plums come through. Much enjoyed

Pop and pour. Strawberry, tart cherry along with good acidity and a decent finish. On the tamer side for a Sojourn Pinot.

Had side by side with a 2012 Gap's Crown with lamb on Easter. This was spicier with higher acidity on the finish, comparitively. It was very lively with a long finish, and the better pair with the lamb we were eating. Sojourn pinot's are just fantastic.

Garnet tinged with purple. A bit more Burgundian than the typical Sojourn Pinot. Black cherry, tart citrus, baking spice, earth, and a nice underlying minerality. Long finish.

On opening, lots of earth and metals (not good, but be patient!) With air, really mellowed into a nice Pinot Noir. Definitely open for 30 in before serving. Once open, becomes smooth and silky nice flavor balance

Cloudy appearance, bright red fruit and peach on the nose, creamy, red strawberries, earth and spices fill the mouth, acid keeps it refreshing, bright and appealing now, nice with turkey

Liked it even more than the last bottle. One of the better Burgundian style wines I've had. Lots of flavor and finesse. Downgraded a point for the second night when it started to fade.

Mid garnet. Gave this about an hour of air. Strawberries, cherries, cola, cinnamon, and a hint of sour rhubarb. Nice underlying earth and minerality.

Sweet fruit on the nose. Light, delicate, balanced with good fruit. Dark cherry, earthy, some nicely balanced acidity. Super smooth, long finish. I just love this wine.

Drank at Naha (Chicago) - Michelin star restaurant - from their wine list. Excellent Pinot, great nose, smooth, cherries, cola... yum. Crowd pleaser at table. Would definitely recommend.

Much improved on day 2 from day 1. A bit disjointed the first day, but quite nice on day 2. Pretty full, a little sweet-tasting (not sweet, just sweet-ish), medium acidity.

Chicago Pinot Days (Navy Pier - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Ripe and intense red fruit aromas, flavors. Also manages to retain balance, even if slightly sweet on the very finish.

West of West Wine Festival (City Winery, Chicago, IL): Super funky and earth driven. Very plush and vibrant. Exciting wine with complex aromatics and a long full bodied finish.
Classic Sojourn styling from this consistently fantastic bottling year to year.

Pinot Days (City Winery in NYC): More elegant than the others, this is less in your face, a bit soft, almost reminds me of a cashmere consistency, still the fig flavor. My favorite of the Sojourns.
