Aromatically, the development is fine, and so is the texture with melted tannins. On the other hand, the acidity could be livelier and the alcohol certainly lower. That said, it's a nice winter warmer, but the balance is not likely to improve with further cellaring. Drink up!

last of 6 bottles. Enjoyed them all. Decanted and served immediately. Medium red color. On nose, sweet tobacco, sour cherry, sweet cherry, menthol and rosemary/sage. On palate, similar flavor profile with medium+ body, medium+ acidity and long finish. Really enjoyable. One of my favorite, if not my favorite, Chianti Riservas. 92+/-

Faded crimson to brick at the edge. Cedar, autumn leaves, spices and cooked meat on the nose. Strong tea, red fruit leather, meat and herbs on the smooth palate with slightly grainy tannin on the long finish. Probably about ready, and very nice.

Brick red color with slight orange tint. On nose, very savory - tobacco, sour cherry, balsamic. On palate, full body, medium+ acids and medium tannins. Long finish as well. Flavor profile consistent with nose. I really enjoyed this and like the rich flavor with savory notes. 92+/- Would buy again.

Bouquet of dark Berries, less typical cherries, some tobacco and violets. Something earthy components, slightly tart juniper and bitter note. On the Palate smooth Tannins and medium Acidity. Good, but i prefer other more elegant or more lively Chianti (Classico).

Traditional Chianti tasting the Pelican wine club (Pelican wine club): On the nose tomato, roses and flower pot dirt, pepper, a little volatile. Very interesting on the palate in that it seemed both developed with notes of leather and tobacco as well as young with notes of maraschino cherry and licorice. Volatility felt here as well, but only in a refreshing sense. A very good wine with time still on its side.

Subsequent notes on this wine from over four years ago. Deep dark reddish garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe red fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & plums with overtones of cedar & earthy/dusty notes, floral notes of roses, some leather, tobacco, herbs, spices, minerals & a hint of vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of sour red cherries, cranberries & plums with spices, some cocoa, herbs, minerals, toasty oak & a hint of vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but despite being 8 years old, it will develop and benefit from continued aging.

Unsurprisingly still a youthful ruby-garnet colour with no bricking.
Some pleasingly barnyard aromas mixing with the complex fruit on the nose, something I've come to expect in the Bucerchiale, though others may not appreciate it as much.
Quite a lot happening on the palate, on entry and finish the barnyard elements are present, though tangy, almost sherbetty acidity lifts the red fruit to the fore. The finish has good length, though it progressively becomes more savoury, finally revealing a sangiovese bitter twist. Fine but deceptively persistent tannins add a little more structure to the wine.
Enjoyable, but based on where it is now, and prior vintages drunk at c. 15-20 years old, there is more interest to come. However for those that don't care for farmyard or brett aromas, then it might be worth drinking sooner.

Wonderful wine. We fell in love with this estate’s wine when we visited in October 2016. It is big and brawny, yet processes finesse. Lovely notes of cedar and cherry, sage and baking spice. Great with the Tuscan beef ragout that we had over pasta.

Medium to medium deep brown/red - quite advanced colour for its age, - nice nose of cherries, dried cherries, a floral note - on palate there is all that, plus some tobacco, red currants, there are some tannins that demand food - but there is an elegant, floral weave throughout, even though I wouldn't call it prima facie elegant - went really nicely with the parm chicken we had tonight - I'd give this a few more years for the tannins to soften and drop, the fruit should last.

Controversial wine. On the first night it appeared too tiresome, heavy, and alcoholic for being a Chianti Rùfina. Clearly better after 24h in the fridge, with our expectations somewhat readjusted. Nice oak spice, late-harvested sour/sweet cherry fruit, fat glycerol, and ample alcohol calls out for proper timing as well as a selection of hard cheese. Finally enjoyable - almost like a full-bodied Southern Rhône wine. Could without doubt go for a couple of years more. Ciao arrivederci!

Good, but another bottle that seemed advanced and had a more rustic profile than clean red fruit. Less funky and earthy than the last bottle, but still had a mild rhone-like profile with earth and leather notes mixed with dried red fruits. Fresh forward palate, but without the crystalline red fruit purity that made the '09 so compelling. Moderate finish. This probably has a touch of Brett. Hopping my last 2 bottles are "cleaner".

Consistent with my note from 10/2014 - although at this stage I like it as much as the '09. Aerated into decanter and enjoyed over 2 hours with pasta. Sweet cherry / sour cherry / herbal / sweet tobacco / balsamic - medium body, high acids and very long finish. 93-94

decanted for 2.5 hours, dried cherry and leather aromas, plush, deep, already this bottle was showing some nice matured character, earth, tree bark, dried meats, herbal teas and dried cranberry, plum skins echo on the finish, beautiful bracing acidity, traditional in style, perfectly suited for a meaty meal, matched with Tuscan rosemary steak on arugula and cherry tomatoes
Very impressive - dark, earthy and focused, rich for a Chianti but with great balance and length. Flavors of dried fruit, herbs and earth - very savory. I'd say no hurry, but awfully good now.

This was a little spritzy and almost Rhone-like upon opening. Smoothed out later with a dark red fruit profile, softer palate than expected and moderately long somewhat meaty finish. Seemed less clean and pure than prior bottles, but still quite enjoyable. I was hoping for a fresher more red fruit profile (more like the '09)

Medium red. Great nose. Spicy, slightly earthy, red cherry, vanilla and a bit smoky. Delicious red fruit and mint flavours. Slightly soft finish but there is some tannins in the background. Not much acid which softens the finish.
I would drink this in the next couple of years. May not be the long ager the 95 is.

Italians at Scena (Scena, Mpls, MN): Dark red color. Drank 1 glass over an hour. This was intriguing, it got significantly better in glass. There was a nice deep earthiness that was prominent on the nose, with spice and dark berry fruit. The palate is medium bodied, berry, firm tannins, dry, a bit savory, dried floral elements, spiced, oak, youthful. 90+ to 91pts..

Really Old Chianti (Sunfish Cellars): This was served alongside the regular 2013 Chianti and some older ones. Definitely a flashy and oaked style, the new oak is fairly pronounced. Modern winemaking meets toenail fungus - confusing. Still, I appreciated it for what it is, and would like to see how it ages.

Really tight and compact, not showing much at all except some sandalwood notes to the nose. Didn't budge over the next three nights, nor did it oxidize. Prefer the 2011 version that I had in Rome in June, than this 2010 in its current state. This is asleep and doesn't want to wake up right now. Try again in a few years. In Hallandale.

A somewhat dark and brooding Chianti, with a darker hint of red fruits and spice mixed in. Very taught, almost prickly acidity on the palate, but this smooths out after a couple hours air. Stony finish. Great Chianti that could use 3-5yrs to smooth out, but drinkable now if not adverse to the acidity.

Consistent with previous note. More restrained than the 2009 vintage. Medium plus acid, light tannin, delicious. In an early drinking window now but likely to reach its apogee by 2017 and hold well for several years thereafter. 91-92.

So happy to have found this! The 1979 vintage is one of my all time favorite wines, so when we came across this yesterday I just about peed. And it's no disappointment - certainly a younger version of the '79. Good danky nose, forest and floorboards and moss and brandy-soaked cherries. Fabulous tannins and mouthfeel, but balanced with mushroomy earthy notes and dark fruits that almost feel like an afterthought. Cherries come out again on the finish and linger for a while. A good dirty chianti, just the way I like em.

Drank over two days. Tight-knit compared to the 2009 vintage. The bouquet is more elegant, including floral and magic markers notes, and less rustic (not noticeably sanguine or rusty) than is typical of fine Chianti. It smelled like Petit Verdot comprised a portion of the blend. The palate is also more tightly wound than the previous vintage, quite reticent even on the second day. The weight and texture convey a certain verve than indicate this wine could develop nicely with several years of cellaring. Approachable now, indeed, enjoyable, but patience will likely be rewarded with this intriguing wine.

Nose is a little shy, with some cherry pit and dark fruit. Palate is concentrated with dense dark cherry notes and a tough of tartness. Nicely polished and accessible despite the youth. Mild tannins in the background. Long finish. Maybe a touch below the '09, but nicely put together. Will certainly age but enjoyable now with food.

Classic, hi-toned, herbal Selvapiana with a really grippy personality and very tannic finish. Quite balanced and with a lighter, higher toned character than the 09, which it nears but doesn't quite match in quality. Still a killer wine with a couple decades ahead of it.

Lovely classic Chianti, only it's a Rufina ... It's on the young side, but it's no waste opening a bottle today. 30 minutes in a decanter opens the wine up to a great chti-chat with pasta and salsiccia. The cherries are darkish, acidity is great, there's a feeling of leather, tea, and a combination of earth and mineral. Tannins are there, but very ripe. The fruit is sweetish, but there's a satisfactory tea-like bitterness that clears your mouth and makes it ready for a new mouthful. Will develop for at least five years. 91-ish.

Old fashioned, subtle Chianti. Relatively ungiving on on the nose with hints of sweet red berries, leather and cedar. Medium bodied with medium acid, fine tannin and a dry finish. A bit of mint even though it holds its 14.5% alcohol well. Classic, refined, elegant. Feels a bit closed, better in 3 years.
Day 2: Some tomato leaf and withered rose which to me indicates it is not suitable for long term ageing. 10 years max.

Moreller, lakris, kaffe, kirsebær; litt salvie og eukalyptus. Intens smak, god fylde og lengde. Meget bra toskaner, men trenger 2-3 år på langs.

A rich and velvety Chianti that is quite enjoyable. Layers of fruit here, nothing acidic or overly tannic.

Medium ruby-garnet, slow moving legs @14.5% abv. Medium delicate aromas of cherries, fine leather, tobacco. Dry, medium acidity, medium-medium(+) tannin, medium(+) alcohol and medium bofy. Medium(+) flavors of cherries, blueberries. pepper, sweet tobacco, cocoa. Beautifully balanced, concentrated, mouthcladding firm texture. Great length with rather dry finish balanced by fruit sweetness. Great with food. Had it with oxtail ragout and polenta. Nice, nice, nice.

Decanted for 1.5 hours and served with smoked chicken on the bone. Dark red color. On nose, Cherry, sour cherry, mint. On palate, sour cherry (especially with airtime), herbal, sweet tobacco, black tea, eucalyptus with high acids, medium+ body and long finish. Not as good as the '09 but an excellent wine. 93+
Excellent QPR and would buy again.

Similar to the 2009, just not as big. Still, a lush and big style chianti that delivers! Soft and rich, not sour or harsh. Pairs perfectly with Italian food. 92+

Off the list at Telepan Local. Much more approachable than expected, particularly since I ordered the 2009 they had listed. Intense, lush, provocative and delectable. Likely even better once it settles down a bit.

91-ish.

Deep dark reddish garnet in color. Fragrant, attractive and youthful nose of ripe red fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries and plums with cedar, earthy, leather, dried herbs, some spices, floral notes of roses, tea, minerals, toasted oak and a hint of vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of balanced, rich, dense, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, cranberries and strawberries with spices, cocoa, herbs, minerals, toasty oak and a deft touch of vanilla. Long lingering dry finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting and extended airing but will develop and benefit from additional aging.

Kirsebær, moreller, bringebær, litt kaffe, sjokolade og lær. Bra snerp og trøkk. Lang ettersmak og god fylde. En fin-fin og silkemyk Chianti allerede nå, men kan sikkert vinne på lagring.
